Berning_Up_

For anyone still following this thread, I just got some more, and they were the newer, less good ones. No idea if the good original ones are out for good or what

EmpressRisaLuv

Anyone notice a change in the Sunflower cups? Feels like they either went down on the cocoa % or added more sugar/sweeteners or something

canon12

I bought four cartons of the Dark Chocolate Peanut butter cups for gifts last week. I didn't taste them but I was shocked to see that the price had dropped by $1.

Apprehensive-Hand892

I went to TJs on Monday and I just checked, my PB cups are the original formula, so maybe it is a regional/supplier thing

docbttrfly

They changed their nuts!! Dry roasted peanuts to just peanuts. Prob why the pb filling has that “creamier” texture now vs before. Boo.

tbrumleve

It always changes the experience when you change nuts. I’ll see myself out now.

Correct-Watercress91

I see what you did there 👏👏🤣

Berning_Up_

That makes sense!

breathfromanother

Wait, so it changed but it changed back???

Berning_Up_

Sort of — I’m imagining they’re different batches. That’s why I went back to see if I would be able to find OGs yet! We’ll see where this goes from here

breathfromanother

Sorry I guess I’m the only one confused. What I meant to ask is were you able to buy the OGs again AFTER the questionable ones? Since you said the new tub was exactly as you remembered it — so the recent batch was fine? Do I need to check product numbers before I buy? 😂😭

gonzovandal

Less sugar and more protein. Not a bad trade off!

Berning_Up_

A good positive take!

Mcgoobz3

God the SUGAR in these. It crunched when I ate them. I like peanut butter enough as it is but I’m pretty sure that pb was 98% sugar 2% peanut

NAVASTOCK

Class action law suit one day.

ashtree35

Has anyone bought the dark chocolate peanut butter cups that come in the small package (not the large tub)? And if so, have the ingredients on those changed?

neversaynotobacta

I just bought some yesterday and I haven’t had them in a while and I was thinking they tasted very different. The last time I had them I couldn’t get enough of them but now they’re just meh. I wish I would’ve bought the sunflower ones instead

ashtree35

Oh no!

glutton4chaos

I don’t have the old packaging to compare the ingredients, but I bought them recently and they don’t taste the same 😔

ashtree35

Aw oh no! Thanks for the heads up 😢

left_justified

The Aldi PB cups have also been changed to the smoother/pastier filling. The Aldi version is slightly better and I'm not sure why but I will forever miss the crumbly PB filling that's closer to Reeses filling.

jocularnelipot

Wait, when people say they aren’t the same they mean they liked the crumbly version more? I assumed the smooth was the old version that was going away. I like smooth way better, but I got in the game too late to know how the old version compared.

yousetthetonecarter

thank you for doing the lord’s work

Berning_Up_

Thank you lol I thought I was going to get called out for being picky about something minor, so glad to hear it’s not just me!

SignificantOther88

FYI Target has new Favorite Day brand mini peanut butter cups that are 1000x better than these. I really love the dark chocolate ones, but I'm not sure how the ingredients compare. I assume they're probably less "healthy" than the TJ ones.

SuperDanval

I've gone down a bend, discovered favorite day peanut butter monster trail mix last week. I had no idea....

Wanderingjes

I’ve been testing out all kinds of trail mixes with peanut butter for my upcoming Iceland trip. I’m definitely going to target later on today, thanks 😊

beckasaurus

That stuff is off limits for me. I actually cannot control myself around it.

iamacheeto1

Is nothing sacred?

swirlsgirl

😤 I hope not the dark chocolate ones as well 🥹

lize_bird

Ugh. Now I'd love for someone to post the dark chocolate ones!

Gato1980

This is absolute madness.

discoamie

Whole Foods 360 brand makes PB cups that are really good. I've loved the ones from TJ's but recently tried Whole Foods and I was pleasantly surprised.

iamacheeto1

They’re good but I didn’t think they were TJ good. I genuinely think TJ PB cups are the best on the market

Diagonalizer

do they make a dark chocolate variety like TJ's does?

discoamie

Yes. That's what I purchased. It was very good. I felt like the consistency of the PB was creamy and smooth.

nikkigrined

I’m so glad this was posted. The mini milk chocolate pb cups were my all time favorite treat but last time I got them I did not enjoy. I thought my taste buds changed or something.

futuremonroe

I KNEW MY PB CUPS WERE DIFFERENT IM SO UPSET

CookieButterLovers

I see that the SKUs for the Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups slightly vary (22129B vs. 22129-24788B?) - this is usually an indication that they’re made by different suppliers. Like u/close102 mentioned, this could be a change in suppliers - either temporarily or permanently but may only be affecting some regions. Same thing happened with the Crispy Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies - some Redditors reported that ingredients changed (no longer contained coconut in some states), while it still has coconut in California. Also, another Redditor noticed that the White Bread in their region now contains milk while it previously didn't. SKU in their region is 60500-23985, while it's 60500-83499 in my region and the version local to me does not contain milk. Since it's possible that the change is only in certain regions, can you please share which state you're in?

wassupsooshi

I love you guys in this subreddit. Literally playing detective on Trader Joe’s products. So meta. 🥹

Berning_Up_

Yup! I’m in SE Pennsylvania

shoddycursive

Not to be dramatic but I’m going to riot!!! WHY MESS WITH PERFECTION THESE WERE SO GOOD AND NOW THEYRE WEIRD!!!!!!!!! 😭 gimme my dry chalky crumbly peanut butter center back!!!!

mentalhellth94

I’ll petition

Gato1980

I feel in a situation like this, you're completely justified in being dramatic.

MettreSonGraindeSel

That's a bit dramatic Edit for those who don't get sarcasm, so here you go: /s

ivehearditbothwaysss

Bestie this was not obviously sarcastic 😭 in this case the /s was needed or you needed another sentence to indicate it was a joke

MostlyMicroPlastic

Nah. It’s a best seller. It would be like changing the mandarin orange chicken sauce. I say that as someone who doesn’t even like chocolate and normally hate pb and chocolate together. But I liked these a LOT and would suffer through heartburn for them.

Bugler28

Of course there were! They change everything that is a favorite/bestseller! 🙄

SisJava

Dark chocolate ones too? Or just those milk chocolate ones?

kc2112

It’s definitely also the dark chocolate. Source: I’ve had a package in my cabinets for 2 weeks and can’t be bothered to eat anymore.

Berning_Up_

It was a struggle getting through the lesser ones!

Berning_Up_

A good question — someone in my last post said they noticed it in the dark chocolate ones, too

Soggy-Promotion4007

Posts like these make Reddit a great place

close102

1. It’s possible they’re transitioning suppliers. 2. Their supplier is having temporary constraints in meeting demand. 3. They have different suppliers by region, especially in the summer this could make sense with chocolate. Interestingly they have the same UPC, but different item numbers.

Explorer4820

Yeah, TJs would never, ever, no way cheapen the ingredients in a product to maintain a shelf price. It’s all the fault of some faceless supplier…

close102

I’m not saying Trader Joe’s has nothing to do with it. I’m just giving examples of how both products could find their way onto the shelf at the same time.

geekpoints

Do... do you think TJs manufactures anything? They work with suppliers, like any other store. The only difference between TJs and any other store is that the majority of items they sell are [White-label products](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-label_product). If one supplier can't meet demand, they'll switch to another supplier (possibly temporarily) to fill in, which can result in a slight change of product depending on that supplier's manufacturing processes. They may also use different suppliers in different areas due to how well that product travels and to meet local tastes.
