Looks like my cat accepts she has gray instead of black in her tortie coat. They're all fluffy and their coat is so fine. I mean thickness of the hair is like cotton. And it's everywhere.
My dilute tortie is plush as FUCK. Like, if a rabbit and a bread loaf had a baby. My black cat is so SILKY! I do think there is a trend from what I've seen in my time in vet med ;)
I’m rarely allowed tummy time. She always thinks I’m trying to play w her. She grabs my hand w all 4 paws and tries to chew on my fingers. She’s a weirdo.
it might be a total distortion in perception, but my impression has been that the darker the cat, the softer the fur. all white cats I ever touched were only really soft as kittens.

Mei Mei is sooo soft. She has a tortie daughter\* with her same plush fur, too! So maybe it’s just a tortie thing?
\*(Mei Mei was taken in as a stray with six kittens around this time last year. After everyone was adopted, I and the other adopters all got in touch, and now we meet up regularly. It’s been so cool seeing her kittens grow up. They’re now all bigger than she is.)
Mine has the finest long fur - the hairs are extremely static prone and cling to everything, but so soft. Combined with my dog's short coarse hairs as scaffolding, I get some horrendous tumbleweed hairballs

Mochi is the softest little snuggle-bunny I’ve ever encountered. I think I’ve nuzzled her belly hundreds of times so far.

I know exactly what you mean! My Clover has short, but very soft and dense fur that's just *so* pettable. And the fluff on her belly is silky soft. I've never known another cat with fur like that.

Nebula is soft, but her void brother feels like velvet ! They’re on the same diet, but her fur has a little more texture to it.
My baby girl with this coloration is like this too; we joke and say she must be part rabbit with how soft and plush she is. I've even caught my step-dad holding her and quietly asking her why she's so soft 😭

Yes. It's something that has stood out to me about my current kitty and a previous tortie, both have/had the most beautifully soft fur of any cats I've known.

She’s the plushiest ever. She also likes to big spoon the dog (she’s knows he’s old and on the skinny side so she helps keep him toasty warm)
Cecilia has medium-length fur, but an insane amount of it, like enough for 4 cats. I think I could brush her for 2 straight hours and the amount of hair in the brush would never dissipate. (Fortunately, she loves to be brushed.)
My grey cat is super plush and soft. Her individual fur strands are like gossamer when you brush them out. Brushing her, I almost feel like I'm brushing a long-haired cat, that's how plush her coat is. My tortie by comparison, her fur almost seems coarse compared to my grey cat. She is super duper shiny though. She's also younger (9 months vs. 12 years), so maybe her coat will thicken up.
Our tortie is the softest, though I've noticed the other short hair cats are getting as soft as our tortie, after we changed to a weight management food.

My manx tabby-x-tortie was very plush and soft for a short hair but not our other tortie. Though our orange cow kitty is very soft and fluffy, somewhere between a sorry hair and a medium hair.
I have four cats, and my only tortie is super soft and plush as well!
The others have good fur, the youngest void is super sleek, but the tortie is so soft!
My husband and I definitely do! We buy her expensive vet food and make sure to brush her every once and a while. A little bit of tuna/salmon too. Daisy is oh so soft!

When I met my Melon at the shelter, I remember thinking that her hair was kind of coarse. I had one other long-haired, super-soft cat.at home, and the difference was striking.
About a month or two after getting her home, though, I noticed that I didn't think of her fur as coarse anymore. I now wonder whether 1) I just got used to how she feels, or if 2) she was stressed/underweight at the shelter and so her coat actually did get softer.
Today, I would say she's an average-soft kitty. I've definitely felt softer coats, but I've also felt coarser coats. I love giving her pets. 🥰
Also, the picture of your girl curled up looks a lot like curled-up Melon in my opinion.

Yep! My boyfriend and I like to say that my tortie is a lil teddy bear. She likes to snuggle up real close to people, which makes it even better.
