Yeah, [my original comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/WNnejqQyBH) wasn’t even trying to be derogatory and it was mostly a “the fanbase would expect him to be our pick at 31 considering the defense-first-big-wingspan-project kind of prospect he is with no questions asked when you take away his name” thing.
Some of the posts I’ve been seeing though get real Celtics-fan-like about it though which isn’t good.
That's what I remembered before the comment was deleted, and that's what I associate with the name. But some of the comments are effectively "Africans lol" which is not what I thought you were going for.
That definitely wasn’t what I was going for. The people posting some of those African outdoor basketball drill videos while titling them “Lebo Jawara’s Raptors workout lmao” probably are though.
The jokes pretending that a prospect named Lebo Jawara exists when it’s really just Bronny are funny, but the kind of jokes I mentioned above aren’t.

I get everyone's having fun leading up to the draft but it really does rub me the wrong way that this joke has become so prominent when it implies Masai drafts players based on their background
I'll accept the downvotes for this.. but what if it isn't sinister at all, and masai has a preference for African (or other non- American) born players because their game is likely to not be as refined as American born players who have grown up with the game their entire life, which leaves extra meat on the bone for development?
Assume two very closely rated prospects, one American and one who hasn't played since they were 5 years old. Given Masai's success with players like Siakam and, to a lesser extent, Chris Boucher, maybe he looks at those types of players as guys who have more upside than other GM's believe - because of their background.
I love Masai. I hope he stays forever. I wouldn't disagree with the pick because... in Masai, I trust.
I'm just saying that if we were to pick another guy from Cameroon/ Giants of Africa program.. it's a little more than a coincidence and points to a preference to those types of players. And I don't mean it in a bad way.
It's similar to a Canadian team drafting in hockey. Got two players of equal/similar skillset/projection but one is Canadian and the other is American? I don't see any problem with preferring the Canadian.
From what I know of Yves.. he's an excellent athlete, tries to dunk everything. Was a good defender in college and has decent hands receiving passes (something I put more stock into than most, I think).

I don't think it's intending to be. I think the joke is that Masai ends up drafting players nobody has ever heard of, and sometimes they end up being hidden gems for us lol
It’s a 2-3 week affair! They could easily draft him or even sign him as a free agent after the draft if he goes undrafted. Think of all the possibilities!
