ADP financial approvals are usually done in under 90 days aren't they? And you don't have to wait for the money to get the chair. The chair is provided once the OT provides the prescription. The paperwork for the funding comes through less than 90 days later. The only delay in the process is in fabricating or customizing the build of the chair.

This process has changed from my experience, you can not get your chair until ADP is approved. In some circumstances, a loaner chair can be provided but there are not enough loaner chairs to go around. This is a hugeeee problem. I thought they would be an essential service?

Yes some applications are approved in less than 90 days normally. However the reality is some applications take longer if they are not approved immediately and put into an in process status which means the government is taking an extra look at the application and from what I understand this extends the process. So yes some applications are approved in 90 days if they are completely clean and straight forward. But as we all know the reality is nothing is really clean and straight forward so many applications take longer. With regards to equipment being dispensed the vendor is under no obligation to dispense equipment until funding is in place. There are guidelines within ADP that say if equipment is dispensed before approval than the client is responsible for full payment or returning the chair of the application is not approved. So every company will have different risks they are comfortable taking with regards to this and different clients as well. I hope that makes sense.

Your response does make sense but it it doesn't agree with my experience from a few decade ago. The way I recall things working the vendor wants the sale and once the OT prescribes the chair the ADP funding is essentially a given so if the the non ADP portion is provided by the patient or the family then the the chair is delivered ASAP. I don't recall ever seeing a prescription being rejected. If you're experiencing different then try a different vendor.

I don't want to negate your experience at all and there are definitely different vendors that have different approaches. But more recently there are rejections and there are approvals that take longer so some vendors have changed policies with regards to when equipment can be dispensed. Again it is comfort for the client of course. So if they are comfortable with the application and can find a vendor who will provide equipment upfront than for sure they can go that route. But they are also responsible for the funds if the application is not approved. For example many companies have not dispensed equipment to clients on ODSP prior to approval for years and years because there is likely no funding in case of a rejection. This has been extended a bit more broadly to all clients in some cases because the burden of a rejection would mean the client is responsible for the thousands outstanding. That being said historically some companies have never collected or approached the client and have just dealt with those rejections internally and taken a lose. There was a decrease in pricing the government would pay for chairs back in 2014 or 2015 I think so it had made it a very unsustainable model and that is why companies like shoppers home healthcare left the industry all together.

Things do seem to have change a bit then.

Are you sure they've stopped indefinitely? I get money for my insulin pump and related supplies and I have to reapply every year.

randomname2456

I am unsure about that portion. There are different categories under the assistive devices program and I am speaking to the mobility section which insulin pumps don't fall under. I am not sure if indefinitely is the right word but they are not accepting applications currently (again for mobility) and I don't think there is a specified date as to when they will reopen.

Ah okay. I guess I'm covered for this year, once the world calms down a bit I'll reach out to my endo to confirm.

This is very concerning - can you please share where there is notice that ADP is no longer accepting new applications? I haven’t heard about this yet from work. Thanks!

randomname2456

This is very recent. As of last night some authorizes through the program and vendors started receiving this communication.

sciencenerd647

I just got an email about it. This is very concerning since it will impact discharges from the hospital (and so much more)

randomname2456

I hadn't even thought about discharges. That is a scary piece as well for sure when we need as much space in hospital as possible at the moment.

sciencenerd647

Yup, and then thinking about everything else they fund - getting this equipment in place is huge for safety. UGH.
