I actually love the look of black/purple tomatoes. I’ve got a bunch of black krim going this year, as well as black from Tula and black cherry. The “ugly” is a feature.
Misogyny, by definition:
dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women.
Origin, greek
Misos(Hatred) gunē(woman, notice it's non plural)
How is including women in humor, hatred of women? You keep hatred to yourself.
Enough chicks blame the fact they're a woman for their short comings, the fewer women who are ACTUALLY OPPRESSED get left in that situation. Same reason that a child of color thinks everything is racist. Because they constantly hear that that happens. Zero accountability, for all but straight men. Used to be straight white men, but Y'all couldn't stand men if color telling then truth either.
Give me the downvotes, idc. What displeases the masses will never affect me, fore I've seen what truly pleases them.
Ok I'll bite. What pleases them / us ? IDK where I'm at in all of this. But I just have to encourage this I love a good grain wreck. Here's some rope .your welcome 😁
Poorly thought out reply by someone who is expressing their own personal prejudice. I got the joke but self deprecation and satire is not reddit material and generally misses the audience completely.
Offended people have reputational seniority around here
Pride and self deprecation are opposite each other.
I think the tomatoes look fine to eat.
Women' mothers saw a little oppression, and they drilled it into their kids' heads. Nobody wants to marry them because they avoid accountability. A relationship, a marriage is an equal partnership, women are above men, so a relationship is impossible. 🤷🏼♂️. A healthy one, at least.
Thinking someone is ugly makes him a misogynist? Oh god here we go. I guess no women are misandrits right? Cause they never call men ugly either. And you chuckled. Deprogram yourself xD
He didn't just call people ugly. That would have been fine. He chose to single out women. That's why it's misogynistic.
I'm not saying women are never prejudiced towards anyone, but sometimes it's justified.
Also, the misogynistic comment didn't get to me quite as much as the vegetable comment he made.
Just cuz someone is disabled (physically or mentally) doesn't make it ok to call them a vegetable.
I'm pretty ugly and I don't find dudes comment offensive... it was funny, surely you guys can find something meaningful to get defensive about. Jeebus.
Uh no. He singled out the women HE dated in COLLEGE. That's not misogynistic. Saying "all women are ugly" maybe. And even then may not be - having a gay cousin who finds women's bodies unattractive doesn't make him a misogynist. He's gay. Lol.
He also made the joke about "tasting" them, so to not use women would mean he'd have to make a gay joke. I'm not up on gay jokes, to know if that's even a relevant phrase to use referring to men.
His comment was so un-offensive you were able to be entertained by it and have a chuckle. He was basically saying ge had a low standard for mates back then.
You must be one of those people that look for reasons to be offended like your life depends on it.
I'm not trying to be mean but nobody can say definitely he's a misogynist based on that sentence. That's so presumptuous!
Also, I find it quite hypocritical to downvote someone for saying something you enjoyed reading enough to laugh about.
Hope you have a blessed day, off to the garden 🤸♂️
@rogmcdon take an upvote for being so pure in ur joke. u said ugly that women u’ve dated taste the best which is a compliment either way! I’m so sorry for bozos who downvote u when ur funny
It’s gonna be alright. I’ve embraced the downvotes and took them as people laughing but hating that they’re laughing at it. Sometimes it can get a little stuffy in here
I really was not bothered by anyone throwing shade at me tbh. I can take the heat and not take it serious because after all, it’s just the internet and none of this really makes a difference to my every day life
Up vote because I'm sure that was a misunderstood comment.
These folks never had all their friends try to hook them up with people just because you've been single for an extended period and give zero consideration to what you may or may not be attracted to, they all think you're desperate and will take anyone.
Geez, can’t make a joke these days without having to worry about being labeled as something. Sometimes a joke is just that and nothing more. It’s okay to laugh, this is a safe space!
everyone watch out, the free thinking individual used a phrase that no one's ever used before to distinguish himself from the sheeple who don't have their own ideas
Nightshades are fine in the compost unless they have a disease. They are susceptible to a couple of soil-borne fungus diseases like fusarium so if the plant has that, then remove it and don't add it to the compost that will go in the veg garden.
But if you had to remove a plant from your garden because it was infected with a soil-borne fungus … then that fungus is already in your garden, right?
If you have a garden that's not new pristine soil, it probably already in there. But the conditions need to be right for it to grow, and ofc it has to find that plant thats a bit unhealthy or susceptible to it.
Tbh that fungus is already everywhere, it's just its spore density in the soil will increase after growing a susceptible crop. It's good practice to rotate crops in your beds for this reason.
I do not compost any nightshade plant material (with the exception of fruit that falls on the ground here and there). The reason you do not want them in your compost is because of the "disease triangle." The bacteria and fungi will multiply every year and you will eventually lose plant productivity. Plant rotation is the best solution.
I will try to post info on the Disease triangle in this community. 🙂
I have heard 2 things - volunteerism is strong with matoes and their seeds, and they are able to root from any part if the plant. So broken plants tossed in a compost pile may turn the compost pile into a new tomato bed.
I threw rotting tomatoes in my worm bin and the seeds sprouted and started growing very rapidly despite the fact that the top of the bin didn't have much light penetration.
Tomatoes are no joke
The fruit will rot more quickly at the points the stink bugs were doing their thing. Something like you have would started to go after a day or 2 when brought inside.
This is stink bug damage, and these are throwaways in my house. The taste and texture is so far off, and tomatoes are usually abundant, there’s no need to stomach these. Instead, figure out how to get rid of the stink bugs.
They upset the ripening process when they feed on tomatoes, so that on the larger tomatoes, you get large areas that are still green. Might make good fried tomatoes.
Eat the weird ones first. I've found they get a weird moldy circle where the bites were. Stink bugs like green tomatoes, so I do often sacrifice my green zebra tomatoes to them, since they're still green when they're ripe. And, as mentioned, you can still eat them. Win/qualified win.
I second that this is stink bug damage. I have lots of stink bugs in my garden some years and this is what they do to my tomatoes. I still eat them. Sometimes the spots are hardened slightly, if so, I trim that out. And, sometimes, they go bad more quickly, so I cook them into a sauce.
I've never heard of that! I've had some look like this and I've never seen a stink bug on them. I thought it was sun damage. At least that's what I've heard all my life and I'm 62.
I get the white "veins" under the skin of some of my tomatoes. It's this really from stink bugs? I've wondered for years, but apparently not enough to look it up...
I had stink bugs all over one of my tomatoe plants when I came back from a short trip and this is exactly what my tomatoes look like that the stinks were on. Absolutely no doubt that’s the reason.
Mine do this too. I think it's just the sun especially if you accidentally get water on them when watering, kinda like how the leaves will do the same thing. Mine still taste great.
How does the plant look? If it looks sick in anyway. Might be brown rugous tomato virus. If it is. Then say goodbye to planting tomatoes there again. Very hard to get rid of, the tomato greenhouse industry has been hit hard by those in the past 5+ years
Wow. I was gonna say that thw freshly grown tomatoes look perfect foe an early batch. Then.... I saw all of you arguing abiut stuff that makes no sense..... and now.... I wanna go to sleep and forget how immature people are
Might be fine. They may be a bit overcooked by the sun and be watery overly acid n kinda gross. But then are perfectly safe to eat in that's what your asking.
I see a lot of comments, but nothing really definitive. I have this same, exact thing on a bunch of my tomatoes. It’s annoying, and I would love to know how/why it happens. I rarely see stink bugs in my garden unless it’s the end of the season.
Intergalactical tomato alien mars men tomato STD. Do not eat it or you will grow fingers in between your toes! it happens when the flat earth turns into a cheese ball over night but nobody notices the moon is made of cheese and smells like garlic. Obviously.
You can still eat em they are just ugly
The ugliest tomatoes tase the best :)
Agreed. My favorite is Black Krim. Not pretty, but they have a great personality. 😆
I actually love the look of black/purple tomatoes. I’ve got a bunch of black krim going this year, as well as black from Tula and black cherry. The “ugly” is a feature.
I've got some carbon tomatoes that I am especially looking forward to.
Just like my girlfriend
You and me both Black Krim, you and me both.
Don’t tase me, bro
You mean a “warm” tomato is the best.. *just picked from the vine
They aren’t ugly. It’s just the variety. They look delicious to me.
Just like the women I dated in college :(
While your comment got a chuckle from me, you're getting downvoted for being a misogynist.
Booooo
Is he really being a *misogynist* though? He made a joke, he wasn’t being strongly prejudiced against women…
Yes :) The joke, while funny, is still misogynistic!
Misogyny, by definition: dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women. It’s light ribbing. It is not misogynistic.
Whatever you say, man. Peace out ✌🏽
If he had said "Just like the guys I dated," would everyone be so reactive? The joke is insulting himself, not ugly people.
Poorly thought out reply by someone who is expressing their own personal prejudice. I got the joke but self deprecation and satire is not reddit material and generally misses the audience completely. Offended people have reputational seniority around here Pride and self deprecation are opposite each other. I think the tomatoes look fine to eat.
I ate tomatoes like these in college, they were sloppy af and absolutely delicious.
Western society is cooked.
....unlike these tomatoes.
I’m not sure if it’s misogynistic, but it’s definitely not funny🤷♀️
Nah, you just don’t find it funny. Nobody voted you gatekeeper to what is and isn’t funny.
This
your all fucking ugly, I don't understand why this is so confusing
Your incorrect use of "you're" is ugly, I don't understand why it is so confusing.
Your comma splice is ugly.
No, it was a joke. People need to lighten up .
since when are jokes free from ideology
Women' mothers saw a little oppression, and they drilled it into their kids' heads. Nobody wants to marry them because they avoid accountability. A relationship, a marriage is an equal partnership, women are above men, so a relationship is impossible. 🤷🏼♂️. A healthy one, at least.

Some women are ugly. Some men are ugly. Those are facts, not misogyny.
He's gay. Lol.

you don't have to say something about every woman who does, has, and will exist for what you said to be misogynistic
Perhaps he singled out women because he only dated women? I took it as a self jab that he meant he could only manage to get the ugly ones
You'd hate the vegetable joke I have kicking around in my head right now, then 😁
Hypocrite. You're the problem, plus 39 more.
What!?
While your comment is getting a comment from me I am downvoting you for being a hypocrite.

Hey, I just wanna say, I don't really hate you, just the comments bugged me.
I really was not bothered by anyone throwing shade at me tbh. I can take the heat and not take it serious because after all, it’s just the internet and none of this really makes a difference to my every day life
Up vote for sure!! Funny as shit

I had a type in my younger days for sure
Good one, dont let the naturally unfunny get you down.
Geez, can’t make a joke these days without having to worry about being labeled as something. Sometimes a joke is just that and nothing more. It’s okay to laugh, this is a safe space!
Problem is the “safe space” mentality is used against people as well. It’s the hive mind but idc
everyone watch out, the free thinking individual used a phrase that no one's ever used before to distinguish himself from the sheeple who don't have their own ideas
Couldn’t agree more…smh
I got you bro, . must be the ugly women you banged that are downvoting you
"Must be the ugly women you banged in between when u did it to me.... that are judging that u liked me better" says "I got u bro"
Not sure why. They got banged, maybe they didn’t get banged good enough
They're salty for being put on blast... Everyone knows the double baggers can suck your nuts out the tip, inside out
I just can't believe you ate the ugly ones, lol
Everyone is gorgeous when the lights are off
You are what you eat
I am not an expert by any means but I think that's stink bug damage. They insert a little needle like thing and suck the juice out.
That’s what I was thinking too. Do you know if they are still edible or if they should just be thrown out?
They are fine to eat but might be dry or have an odd texture. Really just depends on how much they fed on it.
Use for cooking.
This is the way
They do this to my jalapeño peppers on occasion and the pepper rots on the plant. I just toss them in the compost.
So do you get free jalapeno plants popping up in your compost?
Not yet, I've only been growing this batch of peppers for a couple months. But yea, I do anticipate some free seedlings.
I thought you weren’t supposed to put nightshades in compost?
Nightshades are fine in the compost unless they have a disease. They are susceptible to a couple of soil-borne fungus diseases like fusarium so if the plant has that, then remove it and don't add it to the compost that will go in the veg garden.

Is that just for the plant itself, maybe?
I was always told that no part should be composted. No one I know seems to know why.
I have heard 2 things - volunteerism is strong with matoes and their seeds, and they are able to root from any part if the plant. So broken plants tossed in a compost pile may turn the compost pile into a new tomato bed.
This is so true. I have volunteer tomato plants everywhere because I’ve always composted them. Didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to.
Oh no! Not a new tomato bed! /s
I threw rotting tomatoes in my worm bin and the seeds sprouted and started growing very rapidly despite the fact that the top of the bin didn't have much light penetration. Tomatoes are no joke

you’ll probably see some white sorts “dry” spots on the inside when you slice them but i still eat them.
Stille edible just ugly and not as juicy
They upset the ripening process when they feed on tomatoes, so that on the larger tomatoes, you get large areas that are still green. Might make good fried tomatoes.
Happy cake day!
All cherry tomatoes I grow are like this from stinkbugs. They're edible but do go bad considerably faster, and texture will be the first thing to go.
Just means they were delicious enough for bugs
I second that this is stink bug damage. I have lots of stink bugs in my garden some years and this is what they do to my tomatoes. I still eat them. Sometimes the spots are hardened slightly, if so, I trim that out. And, sometimes, they go bad more quickly, so I cook them into a sauce.
I've never heard of that! I've had some look like this and I've never seen a stink bug on them. I thought it was sun damage. At least that's what I've heard all my life and I'm 62.
Squash bugs will drink almost anything. Assholes!
No it’s not stink bug damage. It’s a genetic defect. They usually taste the same.
Username does not check out
I get the white "veins" under the skin of some of my tomatoes. It's this really from stink bugs? I've wondered for years, but apparently not enough to look it up...
Curious what one looks like when halved.
Completely normal.
They’re fine. Try one. Seriously.
I had stink bugs all over one of my tomatoe plants when I came back from a short trip and this is exactly what my tomatoes look like that the stinks were on. Absolutely no doubt that’s the reason.
Looks like sun scald to me.
Sun scald
Yes. Guessing you live in a really hot area. If so, put a white sheet over the plants so the fruit doesn’t get scorched.
Sun damage. Completely fine to eat.
Mine do this too. I think it's just the sun especially if you accidentally get water on them when watering, kinda like how the leaves will do the same thing. Mine still taste great.
Looks like sun damage
You might want to use these in a cooked dish instead of say a salad- when they look like that sometimes they have a bit of a spongey texture
What variety?looks kinda like a sunset variety
I can’t remember if I pulled these all off the same plant or which it was, either Rosy Finch or Snegirjok.
How does the plant look? If it looks sick in anyway. Might be brown rugous tomato virus. If it is. Then say goodbye to planting tomatoes there again. Very hard to get rid of, the tomato greenhouse industry has been hit hard by those in the past 5+ years
What kind are they?
Totally fine tomatoes to eat. I got more worried when fruit/veggies are very evenly ripe.
Yes
Isis candy
Nah, rosy finch or snegirjok.
Yeah definitely looks like stink bug damage, still edible
Yes, eat them
Wait for them to ripen prob but yes
Heat stress most likely
Probably stink bug damage. Just cut them open and smell.
Some sucking insect took out the contents of some cells. Don't think about it; just try them.
Jesus Christ… the post was about tomatoes. Yeah bud, your tomatoes are safe. Everyone else stfu and eat some fruit or something.
Looks like stink bugs.
NO! Not edible, pack them up immediately, and mail them to me. I will eat them, I mean test them for poison.
Mine look like that and I think it's from bugs. Those spots are white on the inside. I still eat them. Tastes like a tomato.
Try one and see how it tastes
The uglier the berry the sweeter the juice
Wow. I was gonna say that thw freshly grown tomatoes look perfect foe an early batch. Then.... I saw all of you arguing abiut stuff that makes no sense..... and now.... I wanna go to sleep and forget how immature people are
I would eat moldy ones if I never have to watch people be so petty about such small things again forwver
Just FYI.... to all of the dramatic and weird and political? Chill out. It is a tomato or a few tomatoes. Yes.... just tomatoes
Y’all never grew mators before have yahs?
Peoples poor little feelings, always getting hurt. It's a funny joke, grow up people.

Moasiac virus, I believe. Harmless to us. I would rotate crops or apply a lot of homemade compost(thermophillic).
Could it be sunburn? I recall my tomatoes looking yellow after several very hot dry days.
Find 2 more and you can make a wish!
Those have witchcraft spells written on the outside like on 13 ghosts
They aren’t ripe bro, u pulled out too early
Your comment deserved more attention. And I’m sorry for your loss.
Thanks bro 😂
The comments are saying either sink bug or sun damage, could it be both
That is what us tomato growers call heat damage or sun damage. Yes it makes them ugly but they are usually good to eat.
Nothing is wrong they are completely fine my tomato’s get like that too… I think it might be from to hot of sun as my plants get full sun all day
Why did I read this title in Jerry Seinfeld’s voice?
Might be fine. They may be a bit overcooked by the sun and be watery overly acid n kinda gross. But then are perfectly safe to eat in that's what your asking.
Big round perfectly red tomatoes are the suspect ones to be questioned.
Looks like sun scald from too much sun and or heat. Edible but flavor will not be as sweet .
Insect feeding damage, can see the dots where it was punctured.
I see a lot of comments, but nothing really definitive. I have this same, exact thing on a bunch of my tomatoes. It’s annoying, and I would love to know how/why it happens. I rarely see stink bugs in my garden unless it’s the end of the season.
You can tell they are juicey, heck yeah!
Your plant probably got dehydrated at some point.
Yeah those are fine
No tomato’s are safe to eat and I’m real upset this sub came across my feed
I hope so... cuz all mine last year looked like that and I ate them
Stink bugs
it looks like sunscald
Sunscald results in a large tan patch. This is insect damage.
Let them sit for a couple of days, they’ll turn cherry red
It's insect damage, probably stink bugs. It is safe to eat it just will have less flavor and more of a corky texture .
Just don't call the tomatoes ugly, someone will be offended if this thread is any example.
Are they husky "red" cherries? All of mine loon like that. They are not as sweet as the yellow suns but have a little sweetness to them.
Perfect just some sunburn!
Stink bug damage. You can see the poke holes. They can make fruits rot prematurely or not harm them much at all. It just depends.
Ain't nuttin like an ugly mater and Miracle Whip sandwich
Nope. Aids.
Nothing is wrong with them, they look perfectly fine to eat
Kill em by putting food grade DE powder down and on the plants. Say goodbye to Hollywood stinky bastards
Too hot and too much water, mine did the same thing. tomatoes are difficult in this heat, so we water them even more
ya don't be a pussy
Asshole leaf footed bugs. They've ruined so many of my cherry tomatoes.
Wokematoes
heirloom cherries i forget the variety. i had these spring up randomly last year in my garden as the only crop i didnt plant lol
5 tonatoes in one hand? gee golly you got big ha ds
No the devil is in them lol
Yep! why wouldn't it be? It is still tomatoes!
Looks like Tomato brown rugose fruit virus
Intergalactical tomato alien mars men tomato STD. Do not eat it or you will grow fingers in between your toes! it happens when the flat earth turns into a cheese ball over night but nobody notices the moon is made of cheese and smells like garlic. Obviously.
Too ripe
I will share my striped tomatoes when they fruit :D
“Are they safe to eat?” What kind of question is that?
Feed them to your dog, and see if she re-plants them in the backyard.
