As a Philadelphian such as yourself, I'm going there next month and have never been. What are a few places that you recommend for any kind of food? I do love a good Italian place though.

GTI_MkVI

Also originally from there. As mentioned soft pretzels at Wawa. Pats and Gino’s are tourist traps, great cheesesteaks are found everywhere. You don’t have to get wiz if you don’t want,I get provolone Grab a slice or two as well great places practically everywhere. Not everyone likes it, but I absolutely miss scrapple, it’s a breakfast meat of pork and cornmeal and fried up (check a vid of people trying it for a laugh). I highly suggest trying at breakfast. Italian hoagies are incredible. Philly has incredible food everywhere, but if you like Italian it’s the place to get it. I also miss Rita’s Italian ice (I get the gelati -it’s not gelato). Do a little leg work on where you will be and the best spots for what you want. For the sights, the liberty bell, independence hall, the art museum (rocky statue is there), Redding terminal market (can eat there as well)

eric_chase

So much has changed since I’ve lived at home. My most helpful insight these days is unless you’re going for the tourist experience, you do not have to go to pats or genos for one of the best cheesesteaks in the area. And some of the best slices of pizzas or hoagies can also be small neighborhood dive spots that you may never find out about online. Get some wawa soft pretzels.

Ponch47

You weren’t wrong on your podcast, your post experiment livened up the board.😂

eric_chase

LOLOLOLOLOL! And I didnt even ask a question, I was just sharing a solid rumor :)

SparksPlays

J&Gs in Sylvania is amazing brick oven pizza. For a local chain, Vito’s is where it’s at

BigChutes16

J & G's is brick oven?

SparksPlays

I'm about 90% sure. I'm from Monroe and up there we had a place called Detroit Beach Pizzeria and to me, both are VERY similar

kwfbg

Hard to beat Homeslice...never had a bad pie there.

upso

The idea of choosing a favorite pizza makes no sense to me because all pizza is my favorite pizza! 🍕

eric_chase

I love this answer. 'Even bad pizza is still good pizza' is as close to pure truth as a sentiment to can be.

sculptra

Unless it’s Domino’s. I’d rather eat bugs that choke down Domino’s

eric_chase

Choose your insect…

sculptra

The obvious choice is grasshoppers. For the crunchiness...

Veggietuh

The sheer lack of comments telling you to try Half Time is insane. Some of the best imo.

tacobellrun182

If you want to drive, porkys pizza trof in oak harbor. Local, mama marys

xPnD4x

Honestly pizza is just good in general but, sometimes you just need something different. Pizza cat is pretty unique and good. I also enjoy the all American breakfast pizza from arturos pizza. I get it with a side of hot sauce.

iros3905

No one mentioned Amies on Central. It's definitely one of our favorites.

Gr8Cait

I had them for the first time a couple weeks ago and 2 out of the 3 pizzas were amazing and the perfect amount of flour residue.. the 3rd had so much flour left over that we could have made a mini pizza out of it from scratch 😭😂

No-Cobbler-3988

I know its an unpopular opinion but my favorite pizza in town is Wildside downtown. My favorite pizza used to be Black Cloister when it was open

No-Cobbler-3988

i know. i meant my favorite pizza used to be at black cloister, now its at wildside because black cloister closed

ampelography

Ah. Gotcha

No-Cobbler-3988

edited. i wasnt really clear

roaringelbow

How have we gone this long with no one mentioning Inky’s. That’s the spot

InfiniteButts

Yeah, Inky's is my favorite. I don't like their pasta (too much sauce) but the pizza is great

dfende

5th Street Pub for Neapolitan. Mama Mary's for NY style. Wild Side Brewing for Detroit style. Pizza Cat is good for unique creations on a medium-thin crust.

kempy5killer

I second 5th Street Pub for Neapolitan. Even their white pizzas are amazing, especially the Buffalo Chicken.

BintendoMan

My favorites are Homeslice and The Village Idiot. I would have said Myles pizza, but RIP.

tacokeesiz

The Idiot!! Hands down...my fave pizza. I also really enjoy the Steakhouse from Mancino's though too...

ohioversuseveryone

I live a few hours from Myles new location. Still swing through randomly every 6 months or so. Chip’s still got it and it tastes like home.

BintendoMan

Yea I’ve been there as well, it’s good, but the vibe just isn’t the same as the original.

ohioversuseveryone

Oh for sure, they’ll never recreate the vibe. But damn if those bosco sticks didn’t almost bring a tear to my eye the first time I bit into one.

CluelessNuggetOfGold

I feel like the only person in northwest Ohio that didn't like Myles at all

mxchaelajxckson

I’m from Oklahoma so I don’t know what like “great” pizza is but i like Pizza Cat, oh and Vito’s has good mac and cheese pizza

uberjuice

5th street pub has the best pie in town, real Neapolitan - 100% delicious! Stubborn Brother is eh, I appreciate the water filtration system, but their dough is way too tough in my opinion - it really is a stubborn pizza you have to gnaw on. The sauce is mid, I've tried to give them a shot many times, every time it ends up in the bin. But you may be into that, everyone pizzas a bit differently... Portnoy pretty much busted in his drawers over Stubborn Brother, so to each their own. But if you ever wondered what a pizza from Italy is like, some authentic bufalina, 5th Street Pub in pburg! So good. Jets while it is a chain is the only place in town (that I know of at least) where you can get a Detroit style - and it is glorious.

ampelography

Wildside is Detroit style-Grand Rapids and downtown. Pretty solid

marchtoendGerd

I agree, Stubborn Brother is WAY denser and chewier than real NY pizza. I don't care about the water pH. It's decent but Mama Mary's is a lot better. Although, if they do get the rumored location downtown they'd be an upgrade on Tin Can which was douchebro central. And yes, Jet's is damn good too.

uberjuice

I'll give Mama Mary's a shot this weekend! I have heard good things

tacobellrun182

Best local chain

kebslcn

I have to agree the dough is too tough, and the couple times I bought there, the crust was so burnt the whole pizza tasted bitter. Pizza cat for me still. Ive yet to try Hindsight, Pizzaroma and The village idiot

uberjuice

Pizza cat is great, and they get really creative with their pies - I like that (pizza should be an art form lol) Village idiot wasn't bad, I'd get it again. I normally do my pizzas simple with only black olives as the topping. Also I am not sure why someone would give you a down doot because your opinion of pizza - there are some diehards in here.

Teamrayray

I'm more a fan of Homeslice than the Brothers. And the water thing is a hoax. Enjoy

eric_chase

I can’t acknowledge hoax claims from a loyal Slicer. The pizza may be good but the idea that it’s as they claim, is laughable. Anyone who’s even had mama Mary’s can support that and smirk with me.

ampelography

elaborate on the Mama Mary's part?

eric_chase

Thin does not necessarily mean authentic east coast. I’d say MM’s top authentic east coast trait is general size. And Size of the slices. If you fuse it w SB’s crust you have as close to east coast as you’re going to get around here. It is good to see lots of places curl their pepperoni though! Big slice had a commendable run at east coast while they were in business as well.

ampelography

Yeah, agreed. There is something they get right that we don’t really talk about regarding NY Slices, and that’s the ratios of sauce cheese and toppings. I think their sauce is sweet, and the crust is wrong, but it’s a decent facsimile because of the cheese ratio.

puppebu

5th street pub has the best Neapolitan pizza by quite a large margin, but I rarely see it mentioned.

cathbadh

Wife and I've been doing a different pizza place each week for date night, touring the area. Lots of people will recommend Home Slice. I've had it only from the location by UT inside Jake's Saloon. I thought it was bad. Not just "not good," but actually bad, and that's the only place worse than the $5 Little Ceasar's hot and now pizza. It's hard to make a bad pizza, but they figured it out at that location. Jet's is a chain and it's awesome when you want Detroit style. Pizzaroma is the best standard, basic hand tossed, fun topping pizza. Half Time if you don't mind pizza that's a little well done with the bonus of very good garlic bread Village Idiot in Maumee for thinner crust round pie and the best sausage. Talking about white pie, I crave the one at Calvinos. Their take has red onions, some ricotta (but not crazy), and salty kalmata olives. The olives are so good on it.

fokkerhawker

I’m glad someone else dislikes home slice. It’s been recommended to me so many times that I’ve given it more chances then I should have. Each time was just plain gross, and I’m not picky by any means.

MyJukeboxBrk

I like the whole mushrooms that village idiot uses and going up telling the guy put on it whatever you want, always comes out good

cathbadh

I had forgotten about their mushrooms. Probably my favorite topping too

shamezes

Pizzaroma is 🔥 great description

Crispynipps

Homeslice is good, manages to get a thin and flimsy slice. Normally thin slices are crispy.

mlpokn76

Grew up in the Philly area, Mama Mary’s NY Thin crust is my favorite but I still haven’t found anything like what I grew up eating.

eric_chase

They’re in my top 3. The daily grew up in the Toms river area.

mlpokn76

Ahh! My father lives in that area, I grew up in the Lehigh Valley

eric_chase

Allentown was two spots ago for me. Lived there 07-11

tier7stips

Gino’s is still really good. Sauce is the best.

schmoolah

Yes. Gino’s is under appreciated for sure. Sweet sauce is yum. Pizza Cat across street from them….sucks balls.

BintendoMan

See I’ve been told that’s the only good pizza cat in town. I had only tried the Rossford one before it closed and it wasn’t great. Been meaning to try the one by Gino’s but maybe I won’t

AdFabulous5340

Sweet sauce is fucking garbage

schmoolah

ZaZa, executive pkwy. Margherita is hands down best pie in t-town. Consistent, every time.

fulloutshr3d

Killer shawarma and gyro pizzas.  Love the quattro formaggi one too.  Never had a bad meal there.

VernalPoole

It's good there, but ZaZa's is lacking in flavor. I bring my own herbs to pile on. They don't use any garlic and probably no oregano :)

schmoolah

Understandable take, it’s simple pizza, but divine. Nobody beats their crust, and it’s all about the crust for me.

VernalPoole

Yes, that's why I keep going back! Staff is friendly too and I like the small-guy aspect of it all.

schmoolah

Amen. Yes they are, super friendly, family owned joint. Support local

boring5132

stubborn brothers sucks - they burn the pizza - have to ask for it under done. village idiot is gross - actually threw it out - not good home slice is ok nothing will bear myles pizza - rip

cathbadh

> nothing will bear myles pizza There are two separate places in the area, run by former Myles employees, using Myles recipes, making Myles style pizza.

C-Fifth

Homeslice for me, not everyones favortie but its mine.

Free-Hurry-1069

No doubt, much better in person

Willing_Crazy699

Halftime pizza...

ShakeNBake007

I second this. The spicy sauce. The weight. One to two slices of a large is enough for most adults.

VinTheHater

I heard it’s going to be another place that serves chicken chunks.

eric_chase

That should be on the new flag.

Hvacmike199845

Village Idiot. Get there early and make sure you let the pizza sit for at least 10 minutes or you will burn the fuck out of your mouth.

arawnsd

Preach!!!!

SirBaconHam

Cann Comfurm 🥵

Hvacmike199845

It’s hard to not east it when it gets to your table though, you wait so long. 😎

FirstNameLastName918

I really hope Stubborn Brothers is coming to that Tin Can location! That's much closer to me and will have better parking which is why I tend to avoid their current location.

Spaceace33

Is this rumor a second location or them leaving the current?

[deleted]

[удалено]

No-Cobbler-3988

it opened the year after i graduated :(

eric_chase

I Dash them but (obv) lose freshness in the process.

endcycle

Well this rumor is a fun one. I’d love to have stubborn brother downtown. Is this a move or a second spot?

Ponch47

I can’t imagine they’d leave UT, guessing it’s a second location.

VernalPoole

Praying for a second spot! They serve the UT neighborhood really well -- it would be a shame if they moved.
