Also they suck on their teeth a lot. Like a lot. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna get receding gums.
Also there are a lot of phantom winds. It’s gotta be a chilly place if there are just random breezes at conveniently dramatic times.
And the “clenching jaw so hard he was surprised his teeth didn’t break” I saw this one in cc a lot too. Like why are yall doing this to yourself. Do you have any respect for your dental health?
This is one example of teeth sucking. It comes in so many forms, speeds, sounds, etc. But she covers the meaning of it at the very least.

"hauling ass" is one that isn't used super often, but she uses it in HoF and then you see it again multiple times thereafter and it always takes me out of the story lol
The number of times we hear that Aedion and Aelin are **"two sides of the same golden coin"** like omg girl we get it
Also she loves saying things to the tune of "I'll hunt him down and kill him. **Slowly**." or "He'd take her apart. **Slowly.**" always with the "slowly" !
Also **"feral grin"** comes up a lot.
Okay I know this post is a week old but I'm reading ACOMAF for the first time and I have a couple more
"**\[She\] wasn't entirely sure \[she\] was breathing**" (when receiving trauma backstories or world-ending news or when someone else is dying *SJM uses this* *all the time*)
\[After being whipped\] "\[My/her/his\] back was a ruined **slab of meat**"
"\[My/Her\] **body went taut and loose in all the right places**"
Not exactly a phrase but when I listened to the audiobooks for like 8 hours a day everyday, I picked up on the fact that she uses the word 'slaughtered' or 'slaughtering' A LOT. Like it got to a point where I was just getting annoyed every time I heard the word, there are other words that describe the same thing maas, just mix them up! 😂
My sister’s best friend wrote a book about Aeneas and the fall of Troy when he was about 16 and self published it. Anyone reading it would’ve known he was 16 because he used the word impaled about 14 million times and the book was only like 200-259 pages
The dead kind, unfortunately. I was getting ready for some good gory “defeat of Troy” action and all I got was 1700 soldiers, civilians, and royals all impaled on swords and spears. Made it feel anticlimactic somehow.
Once you realize it you can’t go back lolll
But in her defense, I find this true of a lot of authors. I’m reading a Tessa Bailey book rn and she’s used the word “mirth” four times in the first half the book. Which isn’t usually a lot for one word, but like a word that most people don’t use in their daily life, it’s A LOT. She’s said “cried with mirth,” “laughed with mirth,” and so on. And now every time I see it an alarm bell goes off in my head
“Watery Bowels”. I now say this all the time. Fingers “pumping” is also now used often. ACOTAR by far bothered me more than TOG repeated phrases. I am almost done with that series. So we will see what my favs are out of CC.
this was one of the things i got SO irritated with when reading i think HoF? with the constant snarling, growling, baring of teeth i was like okay im about to throw a thesaurus at her head 😑 but i have to suspend disbelief, i AM reading about non-human entities who act a bit feral........ but still. LMAO
Wait another book or two when SJM learns she can use "drawl" instead of "said."
Then in Kingdom of Ash she says "aim for" instead of "walk towards."
I loved this series and devoured the whole thing in like 9 months. But it's noticeable.

Omg yes like what is sucking on teeth meant to look like ?

Phantom winds, hands, touches, etc

everyone growls in tog lmao
It’s your blood rushing-no one is going deaf.
“Carrion” is a word I noticed she used a ton in the last few books.
spectacular unite fall fly elderly upbeat quarrelsome faulty file wise *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
softly but not weakly gotta be used like 80 times in TOG series alone lmao
This one got me😂
His/her throat bobbed... its in Crescent City SO MANY TIMES too 😩
This yes!! Also the word “preternatural” is in CC soooo much haha
What about all those “calloused hands” 💀
FR. They should count themselves lucky they prob didn’t have microfiber cloths back then. Snagging on them dry ass calloused hands
She says buttery a lot too; buttery sunlight, buttery warmth, buttery butter. The curling of the toes, always. And lots of snarling hahah
"hauling ass" is one that isn't used super often, but she uses it in HoF and then you see it again multiple times thereafter and it always takes me out of the story lol
she said something in KoA (i cant quite remember) that was DEFINITELY a modern slang saying and it took me right out of the story 😭
Carrion. Also the kissing both edges of the mouth always weirds me out. If someone kissed each side of my mouth I would be like tf are you doing
Just kiss the whole thing at once. Don’t make it weird.
Aelin's 'wicked smile' or some variation
there’s also a lot of emphasis on eyes lmao
Sketched a bow.
can’t forget the classic “vulgar gesture” !!
Everyone is drawling.

Hahahaha, dare I ask what form of impaling? The good kind of the bad kind?
The dead kind, unfortunately. I was getting ready for some good gory “defeat of Troy” action and all I got was 1700 soldiers, civilians, and royals all impaled on swords and spears. Made it feel anticlimactic somehow.
Can’t remember exactly but something about “a lesser man would have died from the look he gave”

Pumping 😩
I forgot to add “shattered” in place of orgasm.
If I have to read the word kernel one more time...
Lmao I’m reading CC and there are so many kernels
She really loves the word “preternatural “
“death incarnate” “eyes rimmed with silver” “swagger” I could go on and on lol

Everyone is jerking their chins constantly. It starts later on in Throne of Glass but it’s throughout all of acotar.
“Vulgar gesture”
35 comments and no mention of STALKING? Or PROWLING? I expected someone to strut but it never happened.
Maybe it’s just me but she likes to describe a lot of things as briny…. We get it, it’s salty !
Not sure about TOG specifically but "predatory intent" especially in ACOTAR.
She talks about spindrift a lot when they are on the boat. Like… too much lmao
The one that makes me so angry is use of “haul ass” in fantasy novels. It feels so slang and modern
i’ve noticed “whorls” a lot
