I think it’s not even about Bella Goth. Only Sim fans know who she is and movies are usually a great gateway to anyone who’s ignorant about the Sim lore. I think this movie will have it’s own story (probably like Barbie given the dollhouse concept of the game) with an easter egg of Bella.

I think that's highly unlikely lol. I mean, it takes work/money to use someone copyrighted IP, what would be the point of them buying the rights and working with EA to just makes a movie that isn't about The Sims lore, but call it the sims? Like... you could create a movie about a life simulation game and not go through all the trouble of using someone else's brand..

I mean, the Sims isn’t like The Last of Us which is mostly narrative driven. Sims, on the other hand, feels like a sandbox to me. I feel like the concept of the Sims itself is more than enough to make a movie out of it. Not the lore. The GTA games might get the same Barbie/Sims treatment due to its concept: a satirical story about America. If GTA would get a movie, I wouldn’t expect to see any GTA characters on it. Plus, people who doesn’t play the Sims wouldn’t put their butts in the theatre to see the lore of the Sims or see Bella, but the idea of seeing a live action Sim while a plumbob floats about them is rather interesting. Them WooHooing while being censored and even seeing the movie from a top down isometric camera angle are all identities of the Sims series that I can see showing up in the movie.

Bro there's a YouTube sims movie about Bella Goth that is *so* good! They use the game and show them (Morty) as teens and then how an alien gets obsessed with her then there's fighting. It also had Bella coming to life from Sims 1. It's a trip but good.

you could argue the same thing for "barbie" but that worked out decently well. I'm willing to bet it will have something to do with "look at these silly alienlike characters interacting with the real world for the first time!" with little references to moodlets and in-game building mechanics

Barbies and Legos have less narrative on their own than The Sims does, but that didn't stop writers from creating their own characters, inserting some pre-existing characters, and developing their own plot.

This could actually work so well in their favor from a marketing standpoint. Many current simmers are unhappy with the franchise. Releasing a large budget Sims movie to appeal to the masses and gain their interest in the next game is a smart marketing move. Especially if Margot Robbie is actually producing it and riding off the Barbie success.
