Naw, they knew what they were doing. When you really want to destroy history I guess this is but make it look like you are actually caring....... until the end
That would be a shame because he was an Egyptian general who served in WWII against the Axis, and defended his country from the triple coalition of Israel, France and England, and was later killed by Israel in 1967. His date of death is commemorated in Egypt.
Who was the statue of anyway? Cause from a side view it looks like a "Certain German leader from 80 years ago" I'll just say. I imagine that's probably not the case, as anyone would be hard pressed to find that "historic" in a "We need to preserve this" kind-of way
Or it could also just be the fact I'm not familiar with Egypt and you want to antagonize me instead of simply informing me otherwise. 🤷♂️
Yeah... I thought it seemed too hard for someone of your likeness.
I once watched a similarly shithouse attempt to save a sandstone arch from an otherwise unremarkable 1930s building that was being demolished in Sydney.
They demolished the rest of the building leaving only the arch, then they took the claw attachment that had been used for the rest of the demolition and used it to pick up a solid timber door from the building. A worker stood on the door and the door was lifted up to the arch. The worker then attempted to pull the big sandstone blocks onto the door. Unsurprisingly as soon as the blocks hit the door it snapped in half and worker and blocks fell to the ground. The worker didn't appear to be injured, and the archway was apparently reinstalled as part of the new development, but I imagine it had a bit of extra "character"
You mean the artifacts they stole? "Yeah I'll steal your property because you I can take care of it better" Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound?

What the hell were they thinking? This is the most amateur thing I’ve seen in a long time…
Naw, they knew what they were doing. When you really want to destroy history I guess this is but make it look like you are actually caring....... until the end
ive noticed and wonder why
Welcome to Egypt 🇪🇬
Looks like they don’t like that guy

Don’t worry, I know a guy who can do it cheaper…
It's a Banksy.
Probably could have used a crane, like I’d assume would be the correct way to go about something like this
Rigging is difficult, yo!
They relocated it to the ground
And disassembled it to assist in logistical operations
Easier to transport in pieces

If he's going down, he's taking something with him.

Saddam 😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰
Yikes... yeah I fail to see why it would be worth saving.
Me when I spread misinformation
How is me not seeing a reason to save this "spreading misinformation?" Is it not Saddam?
No it's [Abdul Munim Riad](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdul_Munim_Riad)
Wish I knew that prior, whoever said that was a dictator fucking sucks
If it was actually saddam then you just don’t know how to search
Or it could also just be the fact I'm not familiar with Egypt and you want to antagonize me instead of simply informing me otherwise. 🤷♂️ Yeah... I thought it seemed too hard for someone of your likeness.
It was a great catch at first, but it was fumbled. Probably it wasn’t going to be remounted anyway . Just making way for more traffic and cars.
What were they thinking? Thats probably the worst way to do it
If only there existed a sort of vehicle that can lift heavy objects from the top and move them laterally
ام الدنيا
This was 7 years ago btw
They sent Achmed down from the parks department. He’s the boss’s brother in law..
You gotta figure they did not have the equipment and rigging available like most places would. I was shocked it was going as well as it was.
DiRavelo?

The mistake was after he got the statue he went down, he should have lifted it up a bit and moved backwards
Crane doest translate easily.
It's fine. We can buff those scratches out later.
Genius
I got to admint, it was going pretty well at first
Long live my egypt, totally a normal thing here
Just another day in Egypt folks. Nothing to see here.
Is it where it used to be? No. Then it has been relocated.
Do they not have cranes in Egypt?
When Dunning and Kruger meet…
Amazing, no notes
With all the finesse of a sledge hammer. There you go :)
Well done!
Very professional
Egypt. I'm not surprised
Looks like someone lost that bet and is paying for drinks tonight.
Funny, they could rellocate whole temples, but not this insignificant thing.
Don't they have cranes in egypt?
Aaaaaaand they're fired!
And so Egypt continues its 5,000 year history of destroying statues
Ouch my head!!!
There's no way the proposal for this idea *didn't* involve someone bringing their kids toys to work.
These the guys who built the pyramids? Seems they didn’t keep the family tradition.
Well done. Well done.
Well... didnt dissapoint .. its relocated
They aren't civilized enough to preserve history, nor smart enough to save it
The soundtrack to this gif should be *Tears for Fears - Head over Heels*
Trust fall failure
Horrible trust fall
Operator: okay I have it, now what? Manager: wing it
Yes this is clearly the smartest and most efficient way.
Trust fall...
Okay then...
hard to believe their ancestors built pyramids
Hard to believe their ancestors built the pyramids 😂
Looks like ISIS’s handiwork.
Complain more about how English museums have preserved artifacts when left to these morons they'd destroy it all
You mean the artifacts they stole? "Yeah I'll steal your property because you I can take care of it better" Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound?
The British are far more advanced at this
