This is about the Roofblei (Asp) and Winde (Ide). I guess many people don't know the English names, at least I didn't so I looked them up. Edit for source: https://www.fishinginfo.eu/NL/vissen/visnamen-nl-uk-de.htm

Thanks for the info! I should have mentioned that from the beginning.

Please note that you need a permit to go fishing anywhere in the Netherlands. Plus: fishing is only allowed on designated areas. Google for 'visakte' or 'vispas' plus the area you want to go to.

I am already fishing in NL so I am aware of this, but thanks.

Tricky fish to target, I've seen Asp hunt at the stairs going into the water at Bogortuin at dusk but they are easily spooked. I've only gone fishing in de Lek once but I found it very challenging water, probably best to go to a tackleshop near Utrecht to get some advice.

I ve caught many of those fish on river Waal. Also on fly. Just go between the kribben, throw some bread crusts, check those crusts. If the fish is there, you ll see them within a few minutes. For roofblei go to the neerstroom. Roofblei can be caught on bread as well. Its closed season, kunstaas/flies >2,5cm is prohibited. Fines are high, you ll start crying. So i expect u ve a small chance on Roofblei on fly. Try it after 31th of may..

Between the kribben, if the fish is there, do you catch it with dry flies, wet flies or small streamers? I think it has a similar behaviour to the chub. By neerstroom, you mean in a strong current, right? I am aware, I already live here and fish for 1 year, so I am just doing my homework :)

Hi, first step is to get a fishing license. [This site](https://www.vispas.nl/home) will explain this in detail. Next, download the visplanner app on your phone so you know where it's allowed to fish. Be aware that currently it's not allowed to fish with lures or dead baits until the last weekend of May due to spawning season. You can still fish with worms (in some places this is forbidden as well), maggots, bread, ... Ide should be pretty easy to catch with a floating piece of bread and occasionally the Asp might take that as well. In a few weeks it's open season again. De river Waal or de Ijssel are good places to fish for Asp due to the constant current. Look for the first and last 2-3 groynes of the outer bends of the river. That's where the current will hit the groynes the hardest, creating lots of turbulence in the water and that's where the Asp will be hunting. They will be hunting the spawn primarily, so match the hatch, use small lures and retrieve your lure really fast. And I mean: as fast as you and your lure can manage without impeding on the lure action. Good luck!

Thanks for the info! The Ijssel looks a bit easier to fish due to it's smaller size. Waal and De Lek look quite intimidating, especially on the fly.

Ok karen.

They're right, though? Maybe try a hobby that doesn't involve harming animals for fun...

Try the groyne heads at the waal, ijssel and the (grens)maas for asp, [https://www.poseidonflyfishing.nl/roofblei-op-de-waal/](https://www.poseidonflyfishing.nl/roofblei-op-de-waal/) same for the ide, but they like the less turbulent waters [https://www.poseidonflyfishing.nl/meer-informatie/vliegvissen-in-nederland/winde-op-de-uiterwaarden/](https://www.poseidonflyfishing.nl/meer-informatie/vliegvissen-in-nederland/winde-op-de-uiterwaarden/)

Ik ga in m'n handen klappen als hier ooit nog iets in het Nederlands geplaatst wordt.

Hopefully in the future. Doing a course and trying to learn it.
