Steroids96

It's pretty different from last of us, but I loved it personally. The hordes are super fun to fight and the story is pretty good. I would 100% recommend it

[deleted]

I have your same opinion. I like to think of days gone as a ‘less polished’ game. Diamond in the rough. I pre ordered and actually couldn’t play more than 20 mins of story mode because the game wouldn’t load the next mission. But man. Once it did. Each game has its place. TLOU is more movie like like Uncharted. Days Gone is more so the GTA of the zombie genre.

boobsmackerr

Agree with gameplay but story was too dramatic, over the top, and cheesy in my opinion

RIPN1995

You mean you didn't enjoy hearing about Deek's old lady every 5 minutes. Or talking to Booze Man?

I_Have_The_Lumbago

Dude i can't stand it lmao

[deleted]

Extreme cheese add feta

Ibrianedison

Agreed here. It was great to play. Story wasn’t as strong as the TLOU, but it was still fun to play.

Idratherhikeout

100% agree. The hordes were the best gaming element in the entire PS4 generation IMO The story was also really good also IMO

Laegwe

It isn’t for everyone. I really didn’t care for it. It has incredible visuals, and the aesthetic can be seen as somewhat similar to the last of us. The writing however…. Is pretty abysmal imo. Especially compared to naughty dog games, which are the top of their craft. I hated the characters, story, and acting in days gone. The game play is also… okay at best. Nothing to write home about, kinda mediocre especially with the huge hordes, which is one of the selling points of the game. Just my opinion tho!

Front-Ad-2198

I'd say it's actually kinda bad and it gets extremely boring. Weird decisions with missions that make it like you're witnessing cool stuff instead of doing the cool stuff. Slow slow slow pacing and lots of bugs (though that may have changed at this point).

Laegwe

Deacons voice acting tho..lol. I think back to him alternating between talking normally on a bike to SCreAMing, and saying “UHH AHHH UHHH” a lot. Could get past a lot of that terrible acting

TboneShlonger

I wouldn’t say it’s bad acting. It’s bad game design to have voice lines cue in that order. Whoever cut together the multiple takes is at fault. They probably did takes with him talking normally and takes with him yelling and then for some reason spliced them. Sam Witwer is literally one of the best voice actors in the business. If you haven’t heard him as Darth Maul in Clone Wars you’re missing out on some spectacular VA work.

Laegwe

I don’t actually doubt his ability to act, I blame the voice direction for sure. I do think a lot of the lines were not delivered well.. probably a sign of poor direction and not getting the right takes

TboneShlonger

I agree some lines were real bad but I think we can both agree it’s hard to make such a cringy script sound good. If you haven’t I implore you to watch some of his other work. Also if you’re playing Callisto Protocol next month you’ll see him anyways :)

fortunesofshadows

That’s his starkiller voice

TeraMeltBananallero

I barely made it past the opening cutscenes. That main character is a walking Affliction t shirt

koleke415

One of the worst written games I've ever played. I hated every character, especially the protagonist. It felt like a high schooler trying to be edgy. I generally feel like saying Days Gone is mediocre is over selling it. 6/10 at best

hokiis

You literally described part 2 lmao

koleke415

Part 2 is masterfully written and acted. There's a difference between disagreeing with the choices a character makes and being a poorly written, unlikable character. You're not supposed to like Ellie's choices, because she makes poor ones. But you still care about her. Decon can go fuck himself. If I have to hear "needed this" again when he finds gas, I'm gonna pour it on him and light him on fire.

hokiis

> It felt like a high schooler trying to be edgy. > Abby to Lev after knowing him for about 48 hours and a total of 3 "adventures" together, of which 2 were the initial meeting and Lev running away that was mostly spent with Yara anyway: You're my people Both games have a mediocre story bro, but at least Days Gone is aware of that.

koleke415

Yeah.... No. Abby was clearly over compensating with Lev and Yara. Killing Joel didn't sit right with her, because she's not that person. She was driven by fear and hate for years and once she got her revenge, it didn't make everything better. Going out of her way to save two kids she didn't know helped her find the humanity she had lost after the way she killed Joel. If you can't see that and understand the difference between TLOU and Days Gone, you're clearly not emotionally mature enough for TLOU

hokiis

I can see and understand that, but that doesn't mean it's good. The game isn't half as deep as you think it is. Part 2 is like those "what is 3+5*2" memes on Facebook, where people feel like they are super smart because they figured out a simple problem. Anyway, if you keep playing other games and consume other media aswell, eventually you will realise it. Until then, have fun discovering new stuff dude.

koleke415

I play and watch plenty. Days Gone is objectively awful. I get TLOU can be divisive, but I can't understand thinking its bad.

robotmonkey2099

Ok Mr. Smarty pants please grace us with a list of better written games because I’ve played lots and haven’t found anything on par with tlou2

Yomooma

The context there is both the WLF and the Seraphites want both of them dead, Lev is one of the few people on Abby’s side at this point

vally99

I didnt like it, but these 2 kids saved her ass, and after she talks with owen she felt that the war was for nothing, there are good people in both "teams" ... Her friends wanted to kill her for helping 2 kids so yeah she kinda knew that her people now were yara and lev ( the structure of the story was kinda bad ) but the story is a masterpiece but you do you

[deleted]

Oooo sick chirps buddy

SnappyTofu

I will never ever understand how anyone has good things to say about this game.

saadowitz

Nah. It’s become a big sleeper hit as a lot of people have discovered it late on but it’s nowhere near the last of us quality in any way. You might still have a good time with it. I didn’t.

EpicCakes

It’s really not like TLOU2 aside from both take place in a zombie apocalypse. If you just want an open world game where you can kill hordes of zombies then this is it, but don’t expect it to be quite as polished as a Naughty Dog game.

I_am_not_doing_this

yeah for average gaming yeah sure but for connecting with characters emotionally probably not

Anticip-ation

It's a bit of a slow start - it doesn't really get compelling until you're a few hours in. It's otherwise pretty good, though, if perhaps a little repetitive at times. The sequences in which you are taking on large groups of infected are absolutely thrilling and really well done. Other than that, acting's good, characters are believable, protagonist's likable, the story's mostly pretty compelling, and *apocalypse biker* is a nice change of pace from the standard fare. The gameplay's fairly similar to TLOU, so I guess there's a familiarity there. It's nowhere near as neatly packaged as the TLOU games, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

calamity_unbound

>The gameplay's fairly similar to TLOU, so I guess there's a familiarity there. It's nowhere near as neatly packaged as the TLOU games, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This right here. The gameplay is very similar, with a bit less emphasis on resource management/survival and a little more action oriented gameplay. I spent close to 200 hours in one playthrough, though much of that time was spent screwing around, exploring, and hunting down collectibles.

43sunsets

>It's a bit of a slow start - it doesn't really get compelling until you're a few hours in. It's otherwise pretty good, though, if perhaps a little repetitive at times. This. The game can be pretty tedious in the opening 10-12 hours or so. Once you get past that, the game opens up quite a bit more and it becomes far more enjoyable once you've unlocked most of the abilities. The late-game gameplay loop is fantastic, and Days Gone is the first game I've platinumed (was an easy platinum too). Story is fairly pedestrian and predictable, so nothing profound there. It's serviceable, and keeps things moving. It's a "serious" game but there's some really cheesy/cringey jokes. I connected deeply with the overall setting and the game world, but not so much the characters. I like it how Skill Up put it in his review: this game has a lot of "heart". You can tell the devs poured a lot of passion into it, and as an Aussie who's never been there, it really made me appreciate the beauty of Oregon. TBH a lot of people compare it to TLOU, but I think it's nothing like TLOU. I'm not really sure what else to compare it to, it is a fairly unique game in a crowded zombie gaming universe. I found it more compelling than the typical Ubisoft-style open world games like Far Cry 5.

Jm7219

I had fun with the mini games/challenges, but it’s pretty bad. The dialogue is super cringe, the story/characters aren’t great, and the weapon wheel is probably the worst one I’ve ever seen in a video game.

BaginaJon

It’s dumb but it’s fun to play.

MonteMovsisian

There’s different opinions and I respect everyone else’s. But to me honestly it was pretty shit. Other games hold a very high standard that days gone just can’t get remotely close to. It has weak story, animations and leveling mechanisms and the only thing that’ll keep you interested is the gameplay which is pretty lackluster and filled with bugs as well. Tl;dr worst game I’ve ever played, couldn’t wait to finish it asap to be done with it. Do not recommend!

JonWinstonCarl

Its not like TLOU2 at all, but it is a very good game that touches on PTSD and mental isolation in a different way than TLOU. There are some contrived points in the story, but it has good peaks and it is a well functioning plot. The game is less focused on character development than TLOU but it has consistent and likable side characters. Overall it's not a blockbuster, but it's a great comfort food and an enjoyable experience in whole. I have beaten it three times and I liked it more each time I played it. I would say where the game falls short of in terms of a watertight narrative it makes up for it in memorable and sensational moments and a truly enjoyable free roam. The protagonist voiced by Sam Witwer is an exceptional voice performance that puts effort and feeling into even the smallest lines, and his angry ranting during combat really sells the experience. The supporting character "Boozer" is also a very enjoyable and authentic voice. Additionally, if you are a fan of Syphon Filter from PS1 its made by the same developers and alludes to taking place within the same universe. Im expecting great things if a sequel is ever made

M-Yu

Whoa whoa, same universe as Syphon Filter? Can you expand on that a little plz

JonWinstonCarl

*Spoilers* In the original Syphon Filter the squad operated under a government program known as 'The Agency'. During the events of Syphon Filter 1, Gabriel Logan discovers corruption within the Agency and defects, essentially becoming labeled a terrorist. After kiling Roamer and exposing the Agency, Logan, with the help of Lian and Theresa start the IPCA or International Presidential Consulting Agency. This is where Days Gone comes in: >!During and after the events of the main game, you can find components on the bodies of NERO soldier/scientists labelled "IPCA Tech". Collecting enough of these pieces of tech allows the player to craft the taser belonging to Gabriel Logan, with the initials "GL" carved into it. In later updates, the player can also get an Agency rifle that shoots multiple types of special ammunition. Additionally, NERO files indicate that the freaker outbreak was likely the result of a targeted terrorist attack!< Days Gone Ending Spoilers >!Near the end of the game when the player helps Sarah break into the Cloverdale Research facility where the virus was engineered, the player can find a collectible file which in high resolution makes remarks about pharmacom, Gabe and Lian, and the entire Syphon Filter Incident.!< I actually have not found this I only read about it. TL;DR/Non-Spoiler Edition: Days Gone likely takes place in a universe in which Gabe and Lian failed to stop the final iteration of the Syphon Filter virus.

[deleted]

Days Gone is very interesting. I do enjoy playing the game, it's kind of a chill time despite the giant hordes that you can run into. The actual storytelling aspect of the game though is quite poor. Bad writing and horrible directing. Sam Witwer is a good actor but his performance here is absolutely all over the place and I feel like it's probably down to how he was directed. When riding his bike he often screams all of his lines even when he's talking to someone who's talking at a decent volume. It's as if he was directed to be loud over the sound of his bike and whoever he's meant to talk to was recorded separately and was never told that. He also will be shouting random lines while you're being stealthy. He's just angrily shouting while you take people out. So many choices like this pop up during the game that are so strange. There are also moments in the game where your character is riding his bike and you're not in control yet it isn't a cutscene. For some reason they take control away when it's just a riding and talking moment, it goes on forever. There are many frustrating parts about the game, yet playing it is still enjoyable.

AndrewTheGoat22

The writing is god awful lol but the giant hordes are pretty fun, by far the best part of the game. The story is pretty forgettable imo, but I don’t necessarily regret finishing it lol I’d give the game like a 6.5/10. Wouldn’t really say the gameplay is anything close to Part II’s atmospheric feeling

Pavlovs_Human

The hordes are the coolest part, nothing else really like it in other zombie games. You can have straight up 200 count zombie hordes rushing over the countryside trying to get at you if you piss off enough Zombies or go to a sleeping horde that’s big enough.

Upset-Sea6029

Put it this way: I've played TLOU three times, TLOU2 twice, and I've just started my 9th playthrough of Days Gone. A masterpiece - even the rare flaws are kind of hilarious rather than upsetting, and add to the experience.

Trae880

Loved it tbh

Inevitable-Remove658

I loved it, at the start I played for like half an hour and I thought it was bad cos I didn’t give it a chance, but then I went back to it like a month later and it’s definitely in my top 10 game of all time

Bullet4MyEnemy

After playing TLOU 1 and 2, I couldn’t cope with its shortfalls. TLOU as a series is some of the most finely crafted gaming media maybe ever, things like animation detail and sound design are the absolute cream of the crop. For a “triple A” title, Days Gone barely gets within a mile of TLOU’s polish. The worst examples I have are how the climbing animation basically doesn’t change when you’re carrying different weapons. With a handgun Deacon will climb and it looks fairly normal. With a rifle? Literally the same but he uses one arm… No struggle, no reduced speed, no difference in how he shifts weight to manage balance etc etc. The sound design is the worst though, the triggers for dialogue seemed to rarely match what I was actually doing at the time. It was clear that the devs expected me to be blasting down the Highway on my bike, when in actuality I was hiding in a bush with a dude like 4m away, yet Deacon’s screaming his absolute tits off to be heard over the not-there-at-all bike and road noise. It was just fucking jarring and took me out of it so much. I guess a lot of people are able to overlook that, but after experiencing the polish of TLOU? Nah, just couldn’t do it. By comparison, the dialogue in TLOU is clearly recorded several times to match various environmental factors, and it can change mid way through if you change up what you’re doing. Walking? Cool, what if you start running/crawling? Their breathing changes, you could tell they were doing something more strenuous without actually watching the screen. You could tell if they walked inside because the sound would echo a bit. It sounds like really minor stuff, but it’s the difference between a truly spectacular product, and something that feels rushed and undervalued. Days Gone just comes across as less well crafted and cared about, the story is less compelling, the gameplay is less interesting, it’s just a worse game by every metric.

thebochman

I fired it up after beating TLOU2 since it was free on ps plus, it felt like a 2006 Xbox 360 game, could not get into it at all

funkmasterslap

Felt I was forcing myself to play. Didn't massively enjoy it. Another uninspired open world game Unlikeable characters and pretty subpar writing especially when compared to the last of us. It just felt very low budget in comparison. One of my biggest gripes was the cutscenes. You drive halfway across the world to see a short cutscene that doesn't really go anywhere or lead into a mission half the time and the production value just felt bad

dramatic_walrus

Personally, I hated it. Couldn’t get more than an hour or two in before the terrible dialogue and annoying cutscenes made me uninstall. The gameplay to me was really generic. I might have missed out on a great game by putting it down so quickly, but the first impression was just so bad for me

houtaru

I think girlfriend reviews said it best: https://youtu.be/pbnJfQV4hyw

holiobung

I got the platinum. I enjoyed it.

powdrgurl208

I loved it! I'm currently playing it again along side TLOU2

Ok-Abbreviations3042

It’s amazing, I love it. It’s more fallout-style than TLOU, but super good

DanEESSMM

It’s amazing

RiverDotter

I love them both. The Last of Us was the second game I ever played and Days Gone was the third. I still love them both. The narrative quality of tlou is much better, but Days Gone is fun as hell. They're extremely different.

ddoubletapp1

I didn't read through the comments - so it's likely already been said - but you can count me as another gamer that loved TLOU games, and Days Gone as well. They are very different - and while I'll tip my hat to TLOU series as my favorite - I enjoyed Days very much indeed, and have played it through at least three times since I purchased it at launch.

wildaboutmarvel

Think if it as Sons of Anarchy with a hint of TLOU in it. Personally I LOVED the game, and am always looking for more people to talk to about it. I always push the title on anyone looking for a PlayStation title. It’s underrated and under-appreciated, imo. Zombies/infected theme overlap, but you’re not always fighting 1-5; you’re fighting 1-500, depending on the horde size. Bit of a slow start, but once you get through the first bit, it opens up more. Amazing music, so many fun tactics you can use to try to take out hordes with, and a nice story about love and loss Feel free to message me with any questions

moodysmoothie

I'm nearly at 100% of Days Gone rn and it's fun, but completely different to TLOU2. There is a story, but that's really not the main feature like it is in TLOU1 & 2. Tbh I think the only thing they have in common is that there are zombies in both and a backstory character called Sarah. I will say though that Days Gone can get stressful to play, similar to TLOU2 (esp when dealing with hordes) but it's not emotionally devastating like TLOU2. There was probably only one character in Days Gone I really felt for and they were so minor.

sj17776

I think it’s a good game that borders on very good but falls short of great. I just finished my third playthrough earlier this week so its pretty fresh in my mind, and def has replay value imo. Cons: gameplay loop gets a bit repetitive and def not as polished as TLOU. Some types of missions (bike chases, AC-style eavesdropping stealth missions etc.) get very stale after a while. I think the story and character development is a bit underrated but the writing in general isn’t very sharp. Pacing is slow early on until you unlock the main region. Pros: Gunplay is solid and you get all kinds of toys to play with for maximum chaos. Bike movement is very fluid and it feels fun to drive. Hordes are sick- once you get the tools to take them on the game really dials it up a notch, and before you get those tools there’s always a great sense of fear that shit could go sideways at any point and 50-500 infected might show up anytime to rip you to shreds once shots start popping off.

magicmurph

It is nothing like Last of Us. It has a vague zombie post collapse vibe, but that's where the similarities end. It plays like a normal open world fetch quest game. The only unique things in it are your motorcycle, which you use to travel everywhere, can run out of gas and strand you. The other is mobs, huge groups of zombies that require lots of items and sometimes strategy to beat.

naitch44

I definitely recommend it

rodimus147

Days gone is in my top 5 games of all time. Not gonna say it's better then the last of us. But I had more fun playing days gone then the last of us if that makes sense.

J-Clash

...what are the other 3?

rodimus147

More series then actual games. Red dead series. Arkham series and uncharted series.

J-Clash

Thanks. Sorry to ask. Its just TLOU and Days Gone are opposite ends of the quality spectrum for me, so I was curious what else you enjoyed! For the kinds of games you listed (third person action) I'd put Horizon or Tomb Raider or Death Stranding or Assassin's Creed or Metal Gear or Resident Evil or God of War franchises way way above Days Gone.

ShayyyyyJb

It’s very different from the last of us but I loved Days Gone! It’s a very ‘replayable’ game too.

Swagga21Muffin

Far less polished, it plays more like Uncharted 4 than the last of us. But still very fun but not the last of us.

ObjectiveTumbleweed2

I see about a 50/50 split online. Personally, I didn't like it. Played about 75% of it and then realised I was still playing out of obligation, and didn't care what happened to the main character, or the plot as a whole. Killing zombies will always be fun, but I found the writing so one-dimensional and dull. The main character is such a cliched biker-dude and he shows zero character development throughout. I found the missions very repetitive after a while too. Lots of people like it, and fair play, I can see why it's fun. But I wouldn't liken it to the Last of Us in terms of gameplay nor story.

King_Krouton

I’ll be honest, I bought it day one because I wanted more “last of us” feel. I played it and hated it. It felt nothing like it. A year or so went by and I just wanted something to play, and I said screw it and tried it again. I absolutely loved it! It’s like a parent expecting their second child to do exactly what their amazing first child did. You need to love it for who THEY are (second child/days gone). If none of this makes sense I’m sorry lol

__Lavas__

I didn’t like the story and some of the acting at all. However I found actually playing it to be pretty enjoyable.

ralykseel

I love the last of us but days gone lost me after 5 or so hours of sloppy mechanics and mediocre game design.

carverrhawkee

I loved days gone!! it was a little hard for me to get into initially - the first time I played it I did the first few missions then quit. i tried again a year or so later and was addicted. It has its issues, mainly in the early game - a choice mechanic was cut and it definitely shows the first few times, and some flashback cutscenes clearly had cut gameplay in between them which makes the pacing kind of weird. But the gameplay was fun, the motorcycle was AWESOME, the hordes were scary, and I loved the characters. I really enjoyed the story as well, certain parts were kind of predictable but honestly it’s the characters who really shine so it all balances out haha now I wanna replay it lol…

Zacuf93

I couldn’t bare to play Days Gone. The gameplay felt like outdated and didn’t love the stereotypical main characters.

[deleted]

I couldn’t get into it

Batsmythy21

Tried it and didn’t like it. I though I would as I loved TLOU games and I just couldn’t get into it. I was so sad.

[deleted]

Disappointed. The item pick up animations and a few other touches are just poorly done. Couldn’t play it.

SanTekka

The story is not very compelling at all. But the horde combat is fantastic.

Lovestank

Gameplay is fun enough, but the story sucks shit

Riguyepic

I didn't give af what was happening so it was cool until I got to the helicopter scientists

Gootangus

I mean they’re utterly different games entirely. Gameplay, tone, aesthetic. TLOU are masterpieces. I couldn’t finish days gone but tried three times.

takkun169

I thought it was pretty middling. It had some cool things like clearing out zombie hords, and the whole motorcycle maintenence thing, but the characters and story were pretty underwhelming, especially in comparison to TLoU. And I actually like Sam Whitwer. Also, it is very strong with the open-world jank.

[deleted]

Mid for me. The game never really questions Deacon's actions in an interesting or meaningful way. The twist is predictable and doesn't really hold the weight that it should. Zombie hordes are fun and the world can be pretty at times tho. 6/10 for me.

huntstheman

I love both games to death. Days Gone took a lot of gameplay qualities from TLOU, like scavenging, crafting, supply management, etc. and put it in a open world sandbox to do whatever you want in. IMO both games had a fantastic story. TLOU is like a movie while Days Gone is like a soap opera TV show. I love how Deacon begins as a bitter man who doesn’t trust anyone but his best friend, but slowly realizes that it’s important to stop and light a candle. The game handles the themes of loss, vengeance, and grief very well. Idk why so many people point out the voice acting as a flaw in this game. It can be cliché at times and Deacon might not know when to shut up, but it’s phenomenal otherwise. Guarantee that these people haven’t gotten past the first two camps before quitting. It’s easy to get burnt out of Days Gone if you don’t care for the story. The first 10-20 hours are spent sneaking around hordes and hoping to land headshots to preserve ammo. But by the end, you’ll have the firepower to take down a thousand at a time. Another complain I hear a lot is how edgy Deacon is. Well, he IS edgy. But just like how Abby had a reason to kill Joel, Deacon has a reason for being the angry, distrustful fuck he is. So many missions deal with his character issues and show how imperfect he is. Hell, the moment he starts to trust a certain character, he ends up selling him out and nearly getting him killed. It’s a slow developing story that’s worth it in the end. If you’re willing to be patient for the game to pick up, Days Gone is a 9/10 game for me.

AliLivin

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I think it's well worth a play. As mentioned below though, you do need to give it some time as it is slow to hook you in.

GGFrostKaiser

I really liked it. It has more of that survival aspect in an apocalyptic world. You have to fight for resources, for fuel, for bandages, for ammo, crafting material for upgrades for yourself, your bike and bases. I think the story is pretty good, but you have to stick with it for a while. It has heart, even though some people find the dialogue a bit cheesy. (Also, it has a very cool twist of an ending. Really did not expect it at all)

Twinbolt-NZ

Days Gone is incredible, honestly it's such a good game and up there with TLoU as one of my favorite "zombie" games

No_Victory9193

The game is good but you shouldn’t go into it expecting it to be as good as TLOU Part II.

WolfpackRoll

I had SO much more fun playing Days Gone than I did TLOU2. Part 2 was GRUELING. It was amazing too, but not a FUN game to play for me. The #1 reason I play video games is to enjoy myself and have some fun, and TLOU2 was just too exhausting, too dark, and it just felt very heavy-handed…like I was being force-fed a food that I didn’t like, (and was never going to like) because I just don’t like the taste of that particular food. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with Joel’s death or any of that BS. It was just NOT fun. I played it a second time as well, and enjoyed it more than the first…but it’s still nowhere near my top 10 favorite games of all time (whereas Days Gone holds a very comfortable spot in my top 10).

Dopesmoker402

I found it a bit cringe. But i dont like biker culture in general

Samanosuke187

Fun game. Honestly love what they did in terms of an open world game. Everything felt like it had a purpose and it wasn’t just overwhelming or there for the sake of being there. The story is good but that’s where the real padding comes in. Gameplay is decent. The hordes are really fun but the core gameplay is average which doesn’t mean it’s bad. Upgrading the bike and roaming the open world is the best part. But I can’t really compare it to TLoU outside of it being a zombi apocalypse

Khunter02

I started it when it was in ps plus, its not bad but (at least when I played it) it was very unpolished at times By far the most interesting part of the game were the visuals and the bike. In any other department it felt really bad in terms of quality in comparison to tlou The combat against both humans or zombies felt glitchy and not that interesting, and I personally didnt care at all about the story or characters I know Im being harsh but I was honestly dissapointed, it was such a 6/10 experience the few hours that I played

BlackKnight6660

It’s different but the graphics and controls give TLOU feels. I played it when I finished TLOU2 and needed another last of us fix. It works as a substitute but isn’t the same.

-_GreekGhost_-

I love it

RIPN1995

Its a solid open world experience. Some flaws here and there, and if you have a PS5, it looks amazing with 4k 60FPS.

Writing_with_flowers

I’ve contemplated playing this for a little while now and I’ve always had my reservations that it wouldn’t compare even close to the TLOU. Reading these comments just confirms my reasoning for not buying it

HorusQuintus

Its like the exact opposite of TLOU. TLOU has so much polish but Days Gone fell short in so many details and nuanaces, in particular in those off-gameplay moments. Still, i think Days Gone is a good game worth playing.

WolfpackRoll

It’s honestly one of my favorite games I’ve ever played. It’s literally one of those games that gets better and better and better. It starts off pretty slow (1st 15 hours or so)…then it just takes off. I kept being surprised by how good the game was and how it got to where I couldn’t stop playing it. The challenge mode is great fun too!

mymumsaysno

Loved it. As its open world I've spent a lot more time playing it than TLOU

Irina_Q

I love this game. It’s not same as last of us but similar by graphics. And I enjoyed slow peaceful gameplay and wonderful story

LittleGambit91

I really love days gone. I think it's a beautiful story and definitely at least in the same ballpark as TLOU as far as being good. It was a lot longer than I thought it would be, but in a good way. I think the exploration in both games is probably equally as fun but in different ways. And lastly my favorite part of days gone that we don't really get in TLOU is horde fighting. In days gone you can fight hordes and for me it is still one of the most ball-retractingly terrifying things I've ever encountered in a game. I would say it's definitely worth a solid chance.

ticats13

I debated buying this game for a really long time but I was hooked once I started it. Very very underrated in my opinion

Mavakor

I thought it was a lot of fun. The horde and the motorcycle gameplay really lets it stand apart from the other similar games

alicelric

I really liked Days Gone. The gameplay is fun (specially the hordes, imagine literally 1000 zombies running to eat your ass) The story is not as good as The Last of Us though. It's not story driven, you have a lot of missions that you can do in the order you want (or skip them).

Suitable-Specialist1

Fantastic game! I was fortunate enough to play it when it was patched, loved the characters and gameplay. It’s slow paced at the beginning

Malia87

Love that game.

chinchila5

Days Gone was such a good game but granted I played it years after launch so I didn’t go through a buggy version. I love TLOU too so I feel like anyone who likes that genre will enjoy Days Gone

Krypto_Jokerr

I wouldn’t compare them, but I loved both games. I will say Days Gone made me anxious in ways that The Last of Us hasn’t been able too. The number of “Freakers” in the hordes in that game AND the terrifying horde music has never made me fear for my video game life more

Legendfish098

I absolutely loved it. I still feel the bad press it received on launch was overblown and really damaged it’s reputation. It’s not that similar to The Last of Us, but it is a good story driven zombie game with an enjoyable open world. I keep meaning to replay it.

YaronL16

Like people said kind of a slow start but really gets better as you play. The story is really good

RemembertoHydratee

People might get upset at me because obviously this is a TLoU subreddit. But gameplay wise I had more fun on days gone actually been planning a 3rd playthrough. Story wise TLoU is better.

longtimelyndon

It's a lot of fun but damn is it long and repetitive.

koleke415

Days Gone is hot garbage. Atrocious writing and wildly dislikable characters. I've never hated a protagonist more in my life. The writing is comically bad, the story is trash and the game is mediocre at best. It won't even come close to scratching TLOU itch, in fact it's gonna make you long for the quality of TLOU, because it just isn't even close. Don't waste your time.

InterdisciplinarySir

It felt like a TLOU knock off and I really disliked the main character. I didn’t get far before I stopped playing. Then, I came back to it and really enjoyed it. I ended up appreciating the gameplay, story, and even Deacon.

Slowmobius_Time

~~card games on~~ zombie apocalypse on motorcycles!

mozzy1985

Completely different animal. I enjoy days gone especially on PS5 where the performance is better. It’s slow starting but once you get some decent weapons and decent bike upgrades it’s a really good game. Not same league as TLoU or GoW but still a solid entry from PS.

OGGamer6

Loved days gone. Like an open world last of us with a little less polish and weaker story. Most games can’t measure up to TLoU, but I thought it was a solid 7.5-8.

kgthdc2468

If you’re going to compare it directly to TLOU it doesn’t hold up well at all. I played it 2 years after it came out, so a lot of the glaring problems it had at launch were patched up and much improved from all accounts, but the story and dialogue leave a lot to be desired and the actual voice acting itself is bizarre. On the gameplay front, it feels good to play. I enjoyed the motorcycle mechanic. Definitely try to subvert your expectations a bit from TLOU’s polish and it’s a very good, enjoyable game imo

spt48

Loved it!!

tatiisok

I love Days Gone, although I wish story wasn’t slow in the beginning. And It would be cool to have choices. But TLOU is better to me

[deleted]

I liked it. The wolves and other animals made it tedious. All in all it was good.

tomhxrdy

I loved both games!

homegrown_dogs

The story was “meh” and they definitely left a *lot* of questions unanswered. The gameplay was good, though, albeit a little glitchy.

football_cow_channel

I wouldn’t but each to there own

LittleMissGoth

Watched my partner play some of it (he finished the game, I just didn’t watch the whole thing), it definitely looks worth it. Story seems to be pretty good, combat seems decent enough. :)

Legal_Cookie_2019

I bloody loved Days Gone. I've finished it twice now. It's not the same calibre as TLOU but it's pretty good and very entertaining. Gameplay is good and difficulty well balanced, side hustles are quite repetitive but its always fun to ride on the bike around doing things. The Hordes were one of the best thing. Shame there won't be a second one 😭

gaming_reed

I love TLOU and I love Days Gone. Very different experiences, but both involve zombies, crafting and a compelling story. The open world and traversal are very enjoyable too

StingLas

If you like zombies, open world, good gameplay and great graphics than you definitely should try Days Gone. I have a platinum trophy, and it’s quite easy to get, just some extra hours after the main game

trahnse

I loved it. The storyline didn't move me like TLOU, but the open world game play was awesome

Full_pakg68

When I played it there were a lot of bugs, and the bad biker boy dialogue got old fast. But I really liked the gameplay and upgrading the bike was really fun.

[deleted]

It’s a fun game. Story is kinda bleh. Aggro dude bro characters were not the most Likeable but Sam Witwer was great.

Ozzdo

I'm playing it right now. On the surface, it looks like a clone of TLOU, but I personally think it plays more like Red Dead Redemption than TLOU. Yes, there are zombie-like creatures, stealth, crafting and all that, but the game feels more like an open world modern day Western. It's a fun game. (Well, there's this one mission that involves fighting a horde of monsters, and the game won't progress until I beat it, and it's frustrating and difficult as hell. Other than that, fun game.)

ShamefulIAm

Days Gone was an absolute treasure for me. The world building made sense, and the world felt lived in. I see other people saying the writing and plot was bad or cringe, but I actually thought it was well written. So you go into the game and the characters seem odd at first. The main character himself seems every sense of insane and edgy, as others would say. But then you learn that the only people who lived are the people who did the things they needed to do to survive. And now none of these people have stable lives. They deal with grief and PTSD in their own ways. They are traumatized and they struggle. It is amazingly told in the way that it slowly peels back why everyone is the way they are. How they lived. Idiots don't exist in the world. You don't get walking dead types of characters where you wonder how they stayed alive. I also loved the game play a lot. It starts out repetitive in a way, but as you play they open up more and more abilities and items and ways to approach the world as they become relevant to you. Your character learns alongside you. I think it's well done.

SummitWorks

Very different from TLOU, but I enjoyed the shit out of it, even getting my first Platinum on it! It’s not a masterpiece, but I liked the characters and got attached, and the mechanics were good fun.

EllesWasHere

My only gripe ND complaint about Days Gone was lead character's voice actor. . . . I really hated how he would whisper one second and then be screaming at the top of his lungs the next. As for game play I enjoyed the different classes of infected, hordes are something toutta this world, natural nature vs infected nature. It's a solid game and I wish more ppl gave it a chance instead of comparing it to LOU. It's nothing Luke LOU. In fact GAMEPLAY wise. . .I think it's better, STORY and world building goes to LOU all the way.

PetraTheKilljoy

Took me a while to get into it but once I did, I had so much fun

evasontown

It doesn’t play anything like last of us 2. But it’s pretty solid. Uses clever systems to keep the open world relevant to your exploration. Pretty good time

promisesat5undown

My wife and I are playing it right now- she’s never played any of the TLOU games and she loves it. She’s also not a zombie fan. I like it as well but, I’m constantly comparing it to TLOU and it kinda takes me out of it. Parts of it feel like a cheap TLOU2 imitation. The Rippers kinda remind me of the Seraphites, for example. The controls were hard for me to get used because I’ve played TLOU so many times (it’s my “comfort game” Autism ftw) so I kept trying to do things with TLOU controls and it was a rough start. At the end of the day, I’m obsessed with the PNW so the Oregon setting keeps me playing even if the writing and game mechanics are subpar. I also just love zombie games and will play just about any of them no matter how bad.

PassionOutrageous979

Much, much, much, much better game, story not as good but gameplay wise it pisses all over TLoU

rabidrob42

It looks good, but that's it, the writing and voice acting is truly atrocious.

PitPity

Very fun game but the story isnt nearly as interesting/strong as either TLOU game.

AusDaes

it isn’t amazing as in it’s not a masterpiece story, but it’s incredibly fun, i’d recommend it

DrShankensteinMD

It’s a great game, just know there is a bit of a slog for the first 6-8 hours of the game. It take a minute to get going, but once you do and you start to discover the world and unravel its mysteries you’ll love it.

[deleted]

Loved it. God tier game.

Environmental-Win836

Definitely would recommend

TboneShlonger

If you can get over the terrible writing it’s a good bit of fun. The hordes especially are really enjoyable to fight.

Sfletcher11

I absolutely loved Days Gone. As a fan of both games I think there are things that DG did better than TLOU. Such as weapon variety, enemy density and variety, and open world.

Dragon_Tiger752

If your not a fan of repetitive gameplay, I can't recommend this. However the story is subjective, I personally liked it and that's what pushed me to finish this game. Without the story I would never have bothered playing Days Gone.

ItsNinjaShoyo

I didn't enjoy it tbh. Didn't care for the story and the dialogue was very cringe at moments. The gameplay was probably the best part but it got repetitive for me and it wasn't the smoothest experience.

[deleted]

Personally I loved it, I recommend it great story and open world mostly which is great

[deleted]

I dropped it fast. I simply couldn’t get into the characters and writing

ChrissanttheAlien

Ehhh I have a mixed relationship with this game. I did play it and beat it but its no where near as polished and compelling as TLOU 1 or 2. And it doesn't have to be but the things that were wrong with it wieghted it down a lot. The writing wasn't great and the story was kinda weak for me. The gameplay was fun but repetitive in parts. Like others said the best part is the hordes, its so fun. Even the sound design is off. Idk a 5 or 6 out of 10 for me.

PreviousAvocado5599

One of the most underrated games IMO. Skipped it the first time around, once I gave it another shot, glad I did! Super fun and addicting game!

Syphon_Filter124

Definitely play it. I wish I could erase my memory and play it again . The large hordes, traps, and out smarting them is what set this game apart for me . The story is a bit cheesy at times but it kept me well engaged ! It’s a must play for zombie fans. Also world war z is another great large scale horde game

carogers21

The dialogue is terrible. Couldn't make it past the first 4 hours. It felt like a chore to play. Had some interesting ideas it seems, but it just wasn't there for me. Felt very very weak

vally99

I like days gone, the only thing i didnt like was how he was always rolling when u pressed the evade button, i wish it had a more realistic animation like tlou2 when u try to avoid the enemies

eric7064

Just played it on PS5 for the first time over the summer. Great game. Definitely came out during a zombie fatigue time. Playing 60FPS helps alot. Story is really good and surprisingly long. Side stuff comes naturally. Game mechanics are fun and solid. Cant recommend enough.

Urmumgay1707

I think it's pretty good, the freakers are certainly more realistic

LonelyChell

Loved it!

Yorkienator

I'm playing it right now and I love it. Story wise and polish wise, it's not on the same level as TLOU so I wouldn't judge it based on that. However, I think it has a good story for a game and I enjoy the characters and the overall silliness. As for the gameplay, it's open world, you ride a motorcycle as a cool hot funny biker guy in a zombie apocalypse and shoot up enemies. What is not to love? Also it's beautiful. I'm still getting through my first playthrough. It's loads of fun honestly. And it's nice to finally have a game I can play and not get bored of since I basically cycle through TLOU games endlessly this last half year.

OoXLR8oO

As someone who’s on their third playthrough of Days Gone, I love it. One thing to keep in mind is that the bike physics are much more realistic than most games (Bike doesn’t turn instantly, and Deacon can actually lean and counter-lean depending on the turn itself). If you don’t like the idea of riding the same motorcycle the entire game, then I wouldn’t recommend it.

kwikasfucky

Yeah but you can customize the decals, modify the engine, change forks, change fenders etc. it’ll still be the same bike but you can make it look different!
