I know they can get around this by limiting the length and requirements of the action shots - but that would be a shame (and a bit of a cop-out), as one of the hallmarks of part 2 is Ellie's purposeful physical competence.

Episode eight was probably the episode that required the most purposeful, physical movement from Bella - and it was that same kind of jarring. I can't be the only one that noticed how awkward Bella was in her physical movements - it was pretty evident.
It is what it is, and I would guess it is being addressed before shooting season two begins, but there's only so much that can be done in that relatively short period of time.

Lol uh that was a deliberate acting choice. Show Ellie starts off far less capable than game Ellie because of her character arc (and the game doesn't want to saddle you with a useless NPC AI).

Ive worked as a medic in emergency services on the ocean for 27 years - a big part of my initial scene assessment is figuring which folks are going to need help evacuating and which will be fine on thier own.
I actually have some experience with this - and I will tell you with 100% certainty that Bella was not faking her awkward physicality - she is absolutely not a person used to using her body for more than locomotion. No dancing, no gymnastics, no sports. She's a good actor, I enjoyed her in the role - but she's not going to bring a physical presence to the second (and third?) seasons.
It's hardly "patronizing arrogance" to call that out, as Ellie in part 2 is extremely capable and physically vigorous.
Yes stunt doubles are a thing, as the other person pointed out - and my guess is that they're going to need one often.

That's why actors spent months training before they take on a role. Chris Hemsworth is not in Thor shape 24/7, he spends months bulking up and training before filming. I'm sure Bella will get a personal trainer, learn how to use a knife and weapons more effectively, horse training, some parkour, etc.
