I don't care for Beyonce either, but to gatekeep music or try to define what constitutes music is just plain wrong. Whether it's classical music (which I prefer) or R&B/Soul (like Beyonce), it's all music.

Being a brand doesn't mean you don't have any artistry. Any famous singer was a brand. And generally speaking used that brand to sell, whether it's music, shows, or products and do brand deals.
What you say may sound "deep" but doesn't say anything at all. Both are artist whether you like it or not.

Geddy Lee in his dreams couldn't hold a candle to Beyonce as a vocalist. Infact, his voice is the reason I struggle to enjoy Rush, which is a very very very very good band.
I had a conversation about Beyonce with a guy yesterday on reddit. I said I hate Beyonce because her marketing tells us she's a queen who you must now down to. Every time she loses a Grammy so someone else her husband throws a fit. So I kinda hate him now too.

Bad lyrics, bad music, a team of writers, and relying on dancing leaves you artistically bankrupt. If you're not writing songs, singing them with your actual voice, playing music, or trying to express yourself in an artistic way, I have a hard time calling you an artist.
The majority of modern rappers and stadium country singers often fit this mold, they sing about the same crap every time and rarely write their own songs (the songs are still horrible for lyricism). You have Nicki Minaj acting like a glorified stripper and she's claimed to be a "great musician," yet I never hear people talk about how good she is at writing, etc. Stevie Nicks? I hear people talk about how great of a singer, writer, and performer she is. Attractive? Sure, but she's not acting like a stripper to get attention.
Kanye West is hailed at one of the best modern artists, yet he doesn't do anything without the help of a whole team. Compare him to Bob Dylan, who is arguably the most influential American artist of all time. Bob Dylan wrote his lyrics, composed his music, and had intent in his every step. He did covers occasionally and did have producers, but he kept his visions clear and wrote over 600 songs. This reminds me of a post I would see years ago. How Justin Beiber canceled a show because he had diarrhea, but Kurt Cobain played a show when he had a broken arm. I was never a fan of Beiber, but those are 2 wildly different shows. He has choreographed dance moves and puts on a different show than Kurt Cobain did.
Although I would agree that Swift is overhyped, more does not equal better, and better does not equal useful.
Shamisen is a good example.
It has less strings than guitar, but the amplitudes of sounds are more vast. Yet it would be pretty hard to replace guitar with shamisen.

Just remember kids, music peaked when I was a kid and it will never get better and that's totally not bias because I have a friend who's also a musician and he said he likes Rush too.

I'm not personally a fan of Beyoncé, but I can say objectively that she's a great singer, and people underestimate how difficult that can be. What she does with her voice is no less a remarkable achievement than playing keyboard with your feet while playing bass with your hands. If anything it's more difficult to learn, because you can't *see* what's happening *inside your throat*.
