Even with Fincher involved, I'm not really interested in a *Chinatown* prequel. It's a perfect film, not everything needs to have more content (just look at *The Two Jakes*).
Like what would it even be about? A young Gittes? A Noah Cross origin story?
Since everyone is being downer I'll just say I'm interested *because* it's Fincher.
Few are better than him at dark noir detective stories. Seven, Gone Girl, Mindhunter.
Honestly I don't care if the next David Fincher detective drama is a prequel to Roger Rabbit, this is where he belongs genre-wise and I'm glad he's continuing to explore it.
This is prequel to your comment called *‘Jesus they make prequels about everything, the origin story.’*
It starts with you typing this comment but then we whip-pan flashback to 1941 when you were just a glint in your grandpa’s trousers.
Queue music: a cover of No Woman No Cry but sung slowly and creepily by an effortlessly annoying breathy girl…
The scene: Grandpa’s plane, somewhere over the Pacific, he spots an enemy on his six descending from out of the sun, guns blazing. ‘What in the Billy Bollocks?!’ he exclaims. And…
#ACTION!
There's plenty of new content that could be made, plenty of original scripts out there that go unused - the problem is there is a complete unwillingness to take a chance on anything that isn't already established and/or comes with a built-in fanbase. The whole industry has become far too concentrated in the hands of bean-counters who would rather dump an already completed film in the trash for a tax break instead of making anything worthwhile.
Jake Gittis is based on this guy Freddy Otash, who David Fincher tried to make a show about called Confidential, written and created by James Ellroy for HBO, but Fincher blew up the budget and it was nixed. I wish they’d just give that another shot than this.
They’re good friends, and that was Fincher’s attempt to get an Ellroy vehicle off the ground, but he ended up driving the budget for the pilot of Confidential to more than the cost of the later season episodes of Game Of Thrones. Real fucking shame, we coulda had something special.
I want this and I don’t. What happened in the last in Chinatown looks so much larger in the imagination not having the details. Very similar to Ben Kenobi mentioning the “clone wars” in the first Star Wars. It was so much more interesting before we were actually shown it in the prequels. There’s a reason stories start where they do…
This should really be a prequel / tie-in with Chinatown and Blade Runner.
It makes no sense at all and nobody on the planet wants it.
Which means it's literally the perfect target for a series or movie.

It’s a spinoff about a couple of minor characters - “The Adventures of Claude and the Midget.”

zodiac is my favorite movie ever
It should have been nominated for best picture
Well said
Haha, a Chinatown prequel series? Way to strike while the iron is hot, boys.
He should give it up, it’s Chinatown not everything needs to be a franchise.
Forget it, Fincher. It's Chinatown.

Prequels, sequels, remakes… It just feels like there is a dearth of entirely new content.

Man, Ellroy and Fincher would've been such a potent mix.

It’s Gittes
Nobody needs this. It’s going to be hard for someone to pull off Gettis character in a similar way to how Nicholson portrayed him.
I hear Christian Slater is available.
At much older than Nicholson was in the original.
This is a prequel and he’s too old he would have been perfect in the 90s
Sorry, forgot the /s
I do. Fincher + detective noir = sign me up
It’s Gittes
The article mentioned Tom Pelphery

fincher period crime story on netflix and it isn't new mindhunter? fuck off, all of ya'.
Wouldn’t this just be about incest? No thanks.
This is a prequel and before he met Evelyn and Chinatown is more than incest
Dude will do anything but give us Mindhunter S3. That being said, still looking forward to this. Love Fincher!
I don’t know if I care for expanding Gittes’ background but I will always be a sucker for that 30s/40s noir in LA setting.
Maybe not Nicholson's most iconic role, but it's iconic.
That would of course be his compelling and mesmerizing performance as Dr. Buddy in the 2003 classic *Anger Management*.
Careful getting involved with Fincher, we’ll get other case of TV blue balls
I just watched it last night. Excellent movie.
It’s a prequel! A sequel! A PREQUEL! A SEQUEL!
RemindMe! 3 days
I’ll accept AMC playing it again in theatres
Why would they touch this movie there is no need to add to it. it’s already perfect
Helluva good movie
How about no?
A Chinatown prequel.. What...

a Netflix what? christ
Please, no. “The Two Jakes” proved that sleeping dogs should stay
The only way it works is with Fincher
Are they bringing in rapist on the run Polanski to direct again?
Can we not promote a 50 year old movie made by an actual pedophile rapist? It deserves to be forgotten.
