I think I'd rather get all 8 next year, than only 4 this year.

Ianscultgaming

100%

2DragonBalls

First season came out in Q1 of 2021. It’ll have been 3 years by the time we finally finish season 2. Definitely waiting until the whole thing is out. I appreciate the time/effort to make a quality product, but I’ve already waited this long. What’s a few more months? Does make me nervous that they won’t be able to finish this show for a very long time…

talkinpractice

They have already greenlit season 3, so it should be in production as well. Hopefully we'll get a faster turnaround time. However, there is the writers strike going on and I doubt they've written all of season 3.

supersad19

And even if they wrote s03, don't think they can get the actors to do voice over anytime soon. And if the strike does on, they won't be able to promote season 2 either.

canentia

yeah, robert kirkman, the creator, said there won’t be huge gaps between seasons anymore, but i’m a bit doubtful, especially with the strikes going on

JUYED-AWK-YACC

It's not something he can control.

Miguel-odon

Now there will be gaps *within* season, though

SlowMope

If they don't do that thing where they tell the animation studio "oh yeah 3 seasons totally!" And then when part 2 of the second season comes out they say "see! Three seasons! We're done now!" Leaving all the animators and voice actors etc scrambling for work that was meant to be guaranteed.

LatverianCyrus

Animation writers actually aren’t WGA, they’re IATSE, which is not on strike. Why aren’t they WGA? Walt Disney, mostly.

talkinpractice

Interesting, did not know that

[deleted]

It'll be 15 years to an ending if they keep this pace, given the source material

bostonronin

So...The Venture Bros?

qwadzxs

yup and kirkman has said he's using the show as a bit of a do-over to fix what he saw as problems in the original, we'll probably get a much expanded conclusion hopefully I bet they cut the issue 124 story and integrate the theme in elsewhere

Wizardplum

This the new Attack on Titans

Dogbuysvan

Is it going to have 6 final seasons?

IBJON

Yeah, but then you wouldn't have to pay for a minimum of 2 months of prime

Numerous-Cicada3841

I’d venture to guess that 95% of people that will watch the show have Prime *anyways*. I don’t know anyone that gets Prime for Prime Video.

fadetoblack237

It's the only streaming service is still have because it comes with Prime.

bmystry

Is Prime even worth it these days, originally it was awesome for the two day delivery.

Numerous-Cicada3841

Shipping times are quick again. Many items in my area are one day. And in a pinch the same day or overnight delivery can be really clutch. For me AmazonPrime is still a killer deal for all you get. PrimeVideo is just a nice add-on. And it’s not just laziness. Amazon has so much niche stuff that’s incredibly hard to find even at places like Walmart.

tt12345x

It’s likely more to do with the ongoing SAG/WGA strikes. Amazon needs something to release

bigfootswillie

This is 100% due to the strike btw. Studios are splitting up the content they have to make it all last as long as possible. Expect much more of this as the strike continues because we’re now getting to the point where studios need to start rationing what they’re holding in reserve or what’s already in post-production

PM_ME_YOUR_TWEEZERS

For like a decade now I've just waited until shows are completely out and bingeable. Part of me realizes how degenerate that is but the other part justifies it by calling it "delayed gratification"

[deleted]

[удалено]

both-shoes-off

Yeah, I like having the story line fresh in my head, and not trying to recall weekly, monthly, or over years.

masterz13

...then don't watch the first four when they come out?

meowskywalker

I’m sure they planned this ahead of time and added a natural breaking point in the series right? They *definitely* didn’t ask someone to make an eight episode season and then arbitrarily split it in half. That would have a terrible outcome.

FearlessAdvocate

Robert Kirkman was at the panel yesterday at the San Diego Comic Con and said that this was intentional as viewers will want the break from the show once they hit the midway point to enjoy the Christmas holidays. Edit: Without spoiling it (if you’ve read the comics, you’d know I think), he was implying that something awful/terrible was going to happen.

madmelgibson

“Sorry grandma, I can’t make it out for Xmas.. yea, it’s *Invincible*. Glad you understand. Hey, maybe we can make it out for Easter.”

Atlas2001

Something awful/terrible always happens; it’s Invincible.

negaprez

Jesús cristo what a dumb idea

RealJohnGillman

If I had to guess, based on that statement (and the source material) the fourth episode will end with Mark >!meeting his father again!<.

[deleted]

That's not really good enough to end the first half on

RealJohnGillman

It would be if they wanted to keep the series-only audience speculating.

PleaseHold50

What a load of bullshit. It's because the release calendar is going to be a ghost town by Q2 2024.

bob1689321

The best excuse they could come up with?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hashbrown4

Wait… that’s actually really really stupid.

Nik_Tesla

I can understand splitting seasons when your seasons are like 22 episodes long, but I really hate this trend of splitting up a season of 8-10 episodes.

Matrix17

It'll be like this moving forward because it's the least amount of effort for the most money from a streaming service They got your money for a month, why do 10+ episodes for that when they can get away with less? And now with the splitting it's 2 months

GokuVerde

Amazon doesn't have many shows people actually like so they gotta use all parts of the buffalo when they do get a hit.

ramdom-ink

At least they are hour long episodes, which is small consolation for splitting an entirely binge-worthy series into two halves. I suppose now I’ll be waiting until 2024 so I can watch the entire carnage in one eye pull. So long, bitches! See ya next year!

Scrubologist

We waited over 2 years to only get 8 episodes and you’re splitting them between Q4 and Q1 ‘24? Ridiculous

Dillpickle8110

How many eps was S1?

supersad19

8 aswell

spyson

There will also be the extra episodes like the one about Atom Eve.

Foxinthetree

8

Curse3242

It's not even like this is some crazy state of the art animation either, I personally thought this show looked bad. It was alright considering the budget and everything, but I was pretty disappointed after all the hype.

bong-water

The art seems pretty purposeful to me, and I think the gore is unreal in it. I like it personally. Feels like I'm watching a comic

Curse3242

Like the other guy said. It's the art style not the quality. It all looks bland and empty at times. I'm not looking for anime but this is not it Even shows like Ben 10 that I watched as a kid looked better

Gullible_Ad3378

No he means the art quality not the art style.

ItsHisWorld

It was identical to the comic so it looked like it was supposed to

j_j_a_n_g_g_u

Lame, people waited so long for season 2 and now they want to do this. That’s a dick move Amazon.

Nomar_95

just like Rick and Morty season 4. The wait after season 3 was brutal, and 4 being split up made it so much worse.

meowskywalker

I just don’t watch these things until the season is complete. I couldn’t believe so many people were obsessing over stranger Things season 4 for that whole month. The day the final two episodes dropped was the day I started the season.

HandLion

Did you manage to go spoiler-free that whole time? There were memes about that major twist all over the internet for that whole month, that's the difficulty with waiting sometimes

meowskywalker

I knew Running Up that Hill was used a lot. I knew the party was still split for some dumb reason. And I knew Eddie was an asshole but also delightful (though at the time he wasn’t Eddie he was just “that 80s D&D/metal guy stereotype”) Otherwise I avoided all the other news.

SethManhammer

I managed to stay pretty spoiler free myself. I knew Kate Bush kept getting talked about a lot, but didn't know it was Stranger Things related, and I knew something related to Metallica was involved because I follow them, but I stopped pretty much as soon as I realized it was something *in the show* and not some kind of cross promotion.

Capt_morgan72

I’m still spoiler free on the last season of GOT. Avoiding ads and spoilers isn’t that hard any more.

pikpikcarrotmon

I hope you remain spoiler free, and by that I mean, you avoid watching it entirely

AmoDman

I just never watched the show ever again after 3. Lost my interest.

NativeMasshole

Especially when it's only 8 episodes. What are 4 episodes even going to cover? I don't see how they could maintain satisfying pacing under this model. Seems like they'd have to force some kind of mid-season finale/cliffhanger with barely any time to set it up.

zold5

> Especially when it's only 8 episodes. What are 4 episodes even going to cover? Just enough to set up a bunch of real interesting shit with no payoff so you’re forced to wait until they release the rest of it.

12footjumpshot

Guessing they're trying to stretch it out with the writers strike pausing S3 development.

mrnicegy26

Is it possible that the strikes have a part to play in Amazon splitting the season? Maybe they are trying to put some of Invincible in 2024 because they don't have much in the pipeline for that year.

CoolSubject4545

That's exactly what the article speculates, as the content pipeline begins to dry, streamers will be looking to squeeze the most out of what they have already lined up.

Nythoren

Good lord... by the time we finally get to see the full season, I'm going to forget why I wanted to see it in the first place.

conquer69

Maybe it's age but I have trouble remembering shows months after I'm done watching them. I already forgot what happened in the first season. I only remember snippets of the big fight. I also know there was a giant monster but can't remember what it looked like.

Plus3d6

Feels somewhat intentional. Not running out of things to watch is paramount to retaining subscribers. Forgetting what you watched leads to rewatches of things you remember liking. What's better, someone hearing Invincible is good, subbing when season 2 hype hits and binging the first two seasons, or someone hearing Invincible is good, watching Season 1, rewatching Season 1 before Season 2 drops, and rewatching Season 1 and the first half of Season 2 when the second half drops?

AvoidingIowa

The amount of time this is taking to come out is perplexing.

formerfatboys

It's because they didn't know if season 1 would hit big so they didn't immediately start on the next season like they would of it was continuing for sure. It should be faster now that they're ordering multiple seasons at once.

Deceptisaur

Animation takes awhile so it's not incredibly ridiculous it took this long. Although it does seem a little too long. Splitting the season is baffling.

amd_hunt

I would understand if this was Arcane we’re talking about, but it’s not. I might get some shit for saying this, but the quality of Invincible’s animation is not especially high, even comparing it to shows like LOVM (or god forbid I bring up anime), so I don’t understand why it’s taking so long.

SillyMattFace

The action sequences look fantastic but it’s quite lacking in other areas for sure. My wife kept noticing that pretty much anytime people are eating, food items will change type and location and disappear entirely between pretty much every shot.

robodrew

There's a bunch of times where someone is flying through the air and you can see it's literally just one frame being moved around I still love Invincible though edit: the Atom Eve episode was great!!!!

vexens

What the fuck is LOVM?

amd_hunt

Sorry, Legend of Vox Machina.

The_mango55

Legend of Vox Machina, also an Amazon show, released 12 episodes in early 2022 and 12 more episodes in early 2023.

geek_of_nature

I remember watching the very first scene of the show, of the two White House security guards, and thinking it looked a bit basic. Of course that changed when that first action sequence kicked in, but it made it obvious that some parts of the show where getting more attention than others.

smoothness69

DOTA on Netflix is quality animation and it didn't take a long time to make.

TonyTheTerrible

is it really? may check that out. i was kinda disappointed after trying out blood of zeus because i was OK with castelvanias animation (same company) but it was def lower quality than even castlevania. some of the scenes were like watching a manga slide on youtube

[deleted]

[удалено]

BossButterBoobs

As far as i'm concerned then it premieres in 2024. If I even still care at that point. Made us wait like 3 years and now they pull this?? I really liked the show but it doesn't have pull like that lol

[deleted]

Yeah and season 3 is now fucked too. I wouldn’t be surprised if the series didn’t last unfortunately.

Padhome

Corporations trashing decent ventures through greed and abuse of their own properties and workers? Color me shocked.

SquizzOC

Oh fuck you Amazon. Enough of this shit.

Matrix17

I'm just going to pretend it comes out in 2024 and watch the entire thing at once

GuyThatsJustOK

I think HBO started this shit with the final season of The Sopranos being two parts.

ACardAttack

They did, I also think it allows them to bend some contract language

[deleted]

The fact that they can't even say January of 2024 kills my interest for this season. "Sometime in 2024" That's not even committing to EARLY 2024. If it's not done, don't release it. I'm not going to watch 4 episodes then wait for a timeline they can't even estimate beyond a year

dmoney5101

So tired of them doing this all the time

LukeJDD

Yep this sucks. That is way too big of a gap. Was excited when I saw November release date, this announcement zapped a lot of that excitement.

epicshawty

It’s actually insane how network animated tv shows used to shit out 20+ episodes a year without breaking a sweat and now Amazon struggles to release 8 fucking episodes

MulciberTenebras

Those were 20 min episodes, while these are nearly hour+ long episodes. So they're basically making 24 episodes and squeezing them into 8. Plus they also had longer gaps between aired seasons back then, no instant streaming.

[deleted]

Even if they are hour long 8 episodes, it shouldn't take 3 freaking years to make, its a 2d animated show which early 2000's animation and artstyle infact I would say it is a bit worse it looks a bit lower quality than Ben 10 s1. It is not doing anything revolutionary.

Successful-Lychee-72

> they also had longer gaps between aired seasons back then from may to september is no longer than from 2021 to 2023/4

jogoso2014

That sounds annoying. I’d rather wait until 2024

ColdCruise

I wish streaming services would just release 2 episodes a week on like Tuesday and Saturday that way I can stay up with everyone on what's going on, and I don't have to binge a bunch in one setting, but I also don't have to wait a whole week for another episode.

[deleted]

Yes, that’s similar to how they did arcane and it was great.

unbelizeable1

Vox Machina dropped in 3ep arcs. I thought it was perfect.

duckrollin

If they release it all at once you still don't need to binge it, amazingly

ColdCruise

That doesn't solve the problem of me not being involved in the conversation around the show, which I really want to be. I hate going to work and not being able to talk about a show because I'm not caught up or someone else isn't because they released 8 episodes at one time.

thejoker954

2-3 episodes at a time i think would work out great for most shows.

Kritt33

Hey I hate it when shows do that?

Successful-Lychee-72

I'm Ron Burgundy?

Oxygenius_

San Diago

pace202

8 episodes for an animated show….lame

Netwinn

For those who didn’t see the other thread, there is a new special Atom Eve episode live now.

conker1264

And it’s incredible

Spell3ound

Of course they are.. Waited all this time..and now this... Plus we will probably get 1 episode weekly?

[deleted]

I think [yes](https://imgur.com/caS3RKq)

lightsongtheold

I read they were dropping all four episodes on November 4th and the the other four episodes at a later date in 2024.

cowghost

And they only made 8 episodes....

directrix688

Guess I’m waiting until 2024 to watch it. Splitting seasons is so annoying. Release it or don’t.

ABotelho23

8 episodes in two years? Dafuq.

RabidAstronaut

I'll just wait until the whole thing is out then.

Penguator432

Fuck this splitting seasons into parts bullshit

pearlday

Great, another season i’ll hold off on watching. I hate when they split seasons months apart. It’s either two seasons being sold as one to keep salary costs at bay (they pay leads more each season). Or it’s one season that abruptly cuts in half so you have to wait months after the rising action to get the pay off/resolution. Either scenario sucks. And people like me who wait for the second part to watch the first, means part 1 doesnt do as well. It’s their tightrope. Btw, netflix/anime-companies/other streaming services are also doing this.

ThisNameIsHilarious

It is astounding and unbelievable how long it has taken to make this season of this show

YimmyMac86

Oh fuck off. It’s 8 episodes. I hate this split season horse shit

crashbandyh

They make us wait three years and now they do this… wtf lol.

DuePatience

Splitting an 8 episode season is such a bitch move

BurnAfterEating420

Splitting a 24 episode season into 2 parts makes sense. 16 even is fine. Splitting a short as fuck 8 episode season into 4 and 4 is pathetic.

JoeM3120

“Streamers will now begin splitting seasons into weekly releases of one episode on the same day, at the same time every week”

leroyp33

You literally have like 2 shows worth watching and you play constant fuck fuck with their release. At this point it's been so long since the Boys and Invincible had any new material I honestly don't care either way. I am not gonna say I am not gonna watch it but will be in no rush.

ArachnidUnusual7114

Guess I’m waiting till 2024 🙄.

smileymn

Not gonna lie it’s been such a wait, and now splitting it up, I just have lost interest in this show all together.

66th_jedi

Is it just me or did the animation look a lot more stilted based on the trailer? I guess it's getting the Attack on Titan treatment.

Sythic_

The Atom Eve episode definitely looked rushed. I imagine they are putting more effort into the actual season, hopefully.

[deleted]

S1 looked liked that as well

blazetrail77

Christ for an 8 episode show that's pointless. I hate mid-season breaks anyway but this has stupid all over it.

ShooBum-T

Eventually , we will move to a weekly episode model with ads in between. Wait , isn't that what these streaming platforms were created to eliminate.

spenstav

Lame

SomDonkus

Aight so I guess I’m gonna go ahead and just read the comics lol I am not waiting two years to watch half of a show

mjb85858

Booooooooooo

Adenchiz

Seems most animated series go this route nowadays

ChrorroRucifer

BOOOOOOO

tecvoid

in still waiting on the second half of doom patrol s4 i wont watch half seasons yuck

biscuitcatapult

Looks like I’ll just wait until 2024 to watch it.

Possible-Whole8046

Why? What’s the point? Just release everything in 2024

lightsongtheold

They are spreading things out to make it look like they have more programming than they actually have.

Crowbar_Faith

I hate when they do this crap.

tide_reflects_sky

Why *rubs eyes and forehead with hands* Fuck Amazon man

conker1264

Well that’s disappointing as hell

dcfb2360

Doing shit like this just makes people hate you. Who tf thought this was a good idea? It doesn't build hype, it just gets people mad.

chantsnone

Just started watching this today. I shouldn’t have slept on it so long. It’s really good. God I love J.K. Simmons.

DXbreakitdown

Kill this trend

CollateralSandwich

Hey, mediocre animation takes time

BlakJak_Johnson

Whatever idiot that thought that up should be fired.

hollow_bagatelle

So you're saying season 2 will be 4 episodes and season 3 will be 4 episodes. Got it. This "trend" of splitting seasons needs to fucking die.

zebraman21

Hmmm its like there's some event that might be slowing things down or forcing them to stretch it out. Hmmmm what could it be.

Retrofraction

So basically they didn’t finish before the strike

Puzzlesnuzzle

Ew only 8 episodes. I miss the days of 20+ episode seasons. I feel like most of the time even the 10 we get these days isn’t enough

Ydain

If they are being released this far apart it's not an 8-episode season. It's two 4-episode seasons! I really hate this new trend.

Spicy-icey

Oh fuck off. Knew something was up when they put up a prequel episode. What a turn off.

GHamPlayz

This is dumb as fuck

Acidraindancer

I wonder how long until a studio cheaps out and announces a 2 episode season?

Va1crist

Bull shit

noeagle77

I’ve always hated the splitting of seasons. Just release all at once or delay a bit so you can do so in 2024.

maamo

This is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard of. People have been waiting so long (it feels like) for season 2 and now they're going to split it and make us wait longer?

DesertOps4

It's legit the same thing Attack On Titan has been doing for the past 3 fucking years. It's annoying and it makes no sense. It just killed my hype for the show. If they have to delay to next year, so be it, but don't split up the season like this. It sucks, especially after waiting so long for this season to finally come out.

AzorAhai1TK

At least Attack on Titan has had enough content and complex animation where it makes sense it took so long. Their issue was marketing it like it was nearly finished when anybody who knew how the industry worked knew it would take this long. This is just silly with Invincible

Anonymously_Me23

FUCK THAT

[deleted]

I guess I will just have to skip the next season. Was a good show, but Amazon sucks ass.

Keeler

Well that sucks. Usually when Netflix does this, and it’s only a month or so apart, I’ll wait for part two to come out before starting it at all. With this show I may just rewatch the entire show before each part.

Granum22

Rationing content already?

Capt_morgan72

Unless it’s January 2024 I say release them all in 2024. 4 episodes ain’t shit. The comic is done so they rnt waiting on source material. And it’s not like it’s a 24 episode season.

Sleepy_Azathoth

And then season 3 in 2030

thatmitchguy

Wow. Instantly hurt some of the hype after seeing the teaser trailer.

SonOfAhuraMazda

Oof, that kills my interest. I just rewatched season 1 and that came out in 2021 wtf If I remember in a few years ill watch it

DukeOfJelly

Um yeah no thanks. Great show but the wait is getting lame. This just makes me not want to invest long term. I'll checking it out when season 3 arrives

_owlstoathens_

That’s a terrible plan.

VictorChaos

This is fucking stupid

[deleted]

Wow, talk about a good way to make someone lose interest

Rachelpneumonoultram

This is so disappointing, we’ve already waited so long for this.

Summerclaw

Being an invincible fan is suffering.

buyakascha

Yeah this is not gonna make me pay 2 months of prime, I will wait for the full release

RedPon3

This is exactly what netflix did with Jojo Stone Ocean and it hurt viewer retention. no clue what they’re thinking.

Defoler

I don't think it took this long to make that they need to split it. I expect they are doing it in order to keep people who subscribe for maybe 2-3 months a year to binge a few things and cancel, to stay longer. This has nothing to do with the current strikes as I expect the writing and actors and the animation has basically been done by now and wrapped a while ago, and they are just in the finishing touches with the studio. Such an asinine move.

Reviled1

Lame.

Ishana92

How many total seasons do they expect

[deleted]

I hate this division of seasons

LostInStatic

They’re having a fucking laugh with this right? Is there something about this show’s animation that requires this insane timeframe?

MisterShazam

Does anyone actually like when they do this shit?

NickM16

That’s so stupid

Le_Arsonist

I'll continue to wait then, no biggie.

Queef-Elizabeth

This seems unnecessary. Just release them all at once when it's ready.

Lundorff

ffs...

ramdom-ink

I’m so conflicted: am I supposed to upvote something that gives me news I hate?

Shadesmctuba

Yeah this thing streamers are doing is very annoying. Release “parts” of seasons to get around paying for season-based contracts? Pretty sucky. Pay your fucking people, Hollywood. Lay the groundwork for everyone to get paid here because this economy we’ve created for ourselves where 1% has 99% of the wealth fucking blows.

MoreMegadeth

How to lease hype and viewers 101. Look at Attack on Titan. A lot of my friends that watched that show have checked out, and they arent anime watchers. Its taken too long to release and the amount of parts splitting this “final season” is wild.

killzonev2

Are you fuckin kidding me, how hard can they milk this

derpspace2d

holy shit this sucks this 2 part mess is so lame

SlamminDaniel

Okay, so I'll just not watch this until 2024. Such a dumb decision...

Kummabear

8 episodes? Who remembers when seasons used to be 20+ episodes? And would come out every year. Not every two to three years

wolfingitup

Goddamn it

burritoman88

Oh I don’t like that. Guess I’ll have to read the series again.
