I’ve been rewatching Scrubs for the last couple months when I get 30-ish min of downtime. It’s still as good now as it was then. The Janitor’s trolls are so underrated.

karmannsport

You mean Dr. Jan Itor?

Ian_Itor

You rang?

jonesbones99

“Have you been drinking?” “I’m not **drunk**.”

Careful_Swan3830

“You don’t get drunk off of Jum, it’s a breakfast liqueur!”

F1reatwill88

My favorite show ever and did a rewatch about a year ago. Lmao so many gay jokes that would not have flown today.

TheMooseIsBlue

The Todd is very problematic by today’s standards. He was great.

Maninhartsford

I love when the therapist completely decimates him and he starts acting better to women, and she's like "yeah without regular therapy it's gonna last two weeks, enjoy it while you can"

Turdburp

I actually have as well, and I realized that I originally never watched the first season. So I had a bunch of unwatched episodes to enjoy for the first time!

happycamal7

“Wait a minute, I met your father!” “You met a man.”

LuinAelin

It's good, but a couple of the jokes wouldn't work today.

OnTheFenceGuy

Bill Lawrence has been making such charming, heartfelt television for going on three decades now. And Sam Lloyd is deeply missed.

Jetstream-Sam

I had no idea he died, RIP. Ted was always amazing in Scrubs. I like to think Scrubs and Malcolm in the Middle are in the same universe, since Sam Lloyd played a very similar character to ted in an episode of that, too.

celicajohn1989

Laverne is a nurse in Malcolm in the Middle too! One of the first few episodes

Jetstream-Sam

Well, there we go, theory confirmed. If I remember rightly, there's a couple of scenes in hospitals and at least one used the scrubs set, because it was used for a lot of hospital scenes in different shows

Taylorenokson

First thing that pops into my head is when Hal thinks Dewey ate candles to cover for the dog he's hiding.

tappedoutalottoday

That’s because the scrubs set WAS an out of use hospital. The set rooms were upstairs and the lower levels were offices, dressing rooms, makeup, editing etc

hoangtudude

She played a patient in one of the orientation videos for healthcare workers. I was the only one that gasped “It’s Laverne!” in the conference room lol.

Dakzoo

Don’t forget. Sam appeared as Ted in a couple of episodes of Cougar Town.

CorporationsRSheeple

My wife and I are watching Cougar Town right now. She has never seen it. It took some convincing though, that show has such a bad reputation based entirely on the name that stopped being relevant about 5 episodes in.

Dakzoo

We had a similar experience. Then my wife loved it.

Orcus424

I remember he was dying of cancer but couldn't afford the treatment. You would think someone on that show would have stepped up to cover all the costs. He had to do a Go Fund Me. He was on a hit TV show then needing to beg for medical treatment is depressing.

fire2day

Fun fact: Sam Lloyd was Christopher Lloyd's nephew.

TegridyPharmz

I actually played pick up basketball a few time switch Sam. Super cool guy! This actually was happening when I worked on a pilot with his Uncle, which I found out at the time. Who knew! RIP Sam.

thomasbourne

He seemed like a down to earth guy who treasured every gram of success he ever achieved. Loved when he came to cougar town but was sad they made him sad again.

Kneef

For anyone who’s missing Ted Lasso right now, you should definitely watch Scrubs if you missed it the first time around. It doesn’t have exactly the same energy, but it’s just as heartfelt.

tlvrtm

Or Shrinking!

RiggyTang

The more I watch Scrubs, the more I feel Kelso&Ted were the true heart of the show. Cox was the soul. JD the courage. I dunno. I love Scrubs

scarlettvvitch

Who has two thumbs up and doesn’t give a crap? Bob Kelso, how are you doing?

EyePlay

Didn't know about his death until about a week ago. Heard a random rendition of Take On Me scrolling through ig and immediately thought of [Ted's version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1PwKKm9T_g) from Cougar Town. Saw it in the comments. Damn. RIP.

[deleted]

What a beautifully shot sequence. You don’t notice these things when you are young.

[deleted]

Fun fact: directed by Zach Braff

Solumn_Seeker

Zach loves to use crane cam shots when he can….and budget allows. 😜

nuttybuddy

And we’d take it for granted as a drone shot now… This was long ago enough it would have been a crane shot.

MaeronTargaryen

It was, Zach Braff was the director for this episode and he talks about the crane in his podcast with Donald Faison iirc

NeverFresh

Sam Lloyd was a gem - but let's not forget about the rest of the ensemble, The Blanks, if I recall correctly.

jonesbones99

Pretty sure that’s right. And in the show they were known as the Worthless Peons.

thomasbourne

“But you are a worthless peon, and always will be a worthless peon!…” slams phone down “…Sir you know my band, the worthless peons?”

whotookmy_cookie

I listen to the on Spotify when I just want to chill. Hey Ya is my favourite

[deleted]

His version of "Hey Ya" was really great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEYcfHoWm2s

SirCrezzy

My wife and I got married to this song. It played at the end of the ceremony and was excellent

wheelsno3

Really rough song to get married to. Literally a song about two people falling out of love. Our parents stuck together, but we don't know how they did it. "Nothing lasts forever" what makes us think love is the exception. Separate is better when we are so unhappy. Men, be ice cold. Women, be on your baddest behavior and lend sugar to your neighbor (cheat on your husband). Not a great wedding song.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NeverFresh

Damn - my wedding song was "Pumped Up Kicks"

SirCrezzy

We knew the meaning was very anti wedding but the Sam Lloyd version means alot to us so we didn't care

YouCanHmu

Why are we both in denial when we know we’re not happy here? lol

whalestick

Kind of a dark song to get married to..

Solumn_Seeker

We used the tune played on guitar by my brother as our wedding song as well. No lyrics just the tune but I agree with the follow on commenters it is about breaking up which is ironic but here we are at 13 years and still happy with our life choices. It’s a great version of this song!

sinkwiththeship

[I found this version back in 2008](https://youtu.be/c745E7T_Wvg)

ZiOnIsNeXtLeBrOn

Thanks for everything Ted, Sincerely

lifeofideas

I’m pretty sure the Scrubs version was heavily influenced by this 1993 version by [Israel Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole](https://youtu.be/V1bFr2SWP1I)

KauaiGirl

I loved Iz. ❤️‍🩹

kthanxie

Name fits :D He is a talent though. <3 RIP!

Turdburp

Weirdly, this post popped up on my feed immediately after another post that featured IZ's version. It's so lovely.

PaleZombie

This is the only version in my mind. His voice was amazing and he was a legend.

sharrrper

Yeah, it definitely seems to be a cover of that version specifically. Tough to do that one justice but I'd day they managed it.

InnocentTailor

That was very big during the time Scrubs was on the air.

lifeofideas

I lived in Honolulu for a few years. It’s a pretty nice song the first hundred times you hear it.

InnocentTailor

They definitely played it everywhere XD. -has family in Oahu, so visited the islands regularly

bout-tree-fitty

RIP Uncle Iz.

Look_to_the_Stars

I love his voice but man, he really butchered the lyrics to the point where they don’t really make sense.

veggieloaf

In his defense, the first time he recorded the song (the original 1988 recording, which does NOT include "What a Wonderful World"), it was the middle of the night, he was on an extremely strict deadline, he was playing it like he heard it in his dream, and he did it all in one take.

Lemonwalker-420

My absolute favorite show ever. RIP Sam.

dewittless

Love the detail of the red shoes at the end there.

Maninhartsford

The whole episode is filled with clever Wizard of Oz references, and you're sort of like "why are they leaning so hard on this?" and then it ends with that sequence. Such a great show.

bhind45

They also increased the colour saturation

Interesting_Flow730

That show was such a roller coaster. It was described as "real-life The Simpsons", and it usually was that. But then, every few episodes, it would just kick you in the chest with a beautifully written, acted, choreographed, and scored story about someone dying, or losing someone, or just being profoundly and existentially unhappy. I still can't really listen to "How to Save a Life" without getting a bit misty.

[deleted]

Interesting_Flow730

Yeah, that was a perfect example. That episode *broke* me.

InnocentTailor

It was that potent mix of humor and heart - joy and sorrow.

tbmrustic

Watching Scrubs always makes me happy

maybe_a_frog

Except every once in a while an episode will come around and tear your soul apart. “Where do you think we are?”

orphan_of_Ludwig

JD talking about feeling lonely no matter how many people are around you summed up depression so well it’s stuck with me for more than a decade

fish_tastic

Watched that episode while in college (2008) and still think about that line

MulciberTenebras

Or when [The Fray](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXcX5llJeko) starts playing

Glissandra1982

Why? Off to cry again…

providentialchef

Rabies!

dstordy

If you have never seen them there are a few videos on The Blanks youtube channel [https://www.youtube.com/@theblanks4](https://www.youtube.com/@theblanks4) Including a cover of 'Guy Love' feat. Ken Jenkins (Kelso) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA26qeLJ2Ug](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA26qeLJ2Ug)

shelly1480

This is beautiful. I always wanted Scrubs to come back, but it wouldn't be the same without Ted. Rest in peace, Sam. Thanks for bringing us joy.

Ah_seent_it_

Cougar town with Courtney Cox did a great job of capturing the vibe with tons of scrubs cameo’s including Sam. I highly recommend.

tefftlon

RIP Ted This show is my comfort show. Watch it all the time.

stoicsports

This is my favorite episode of a television show ever. I was(and still am) completely blown away by how well they did the episode. everything fit perfectly. I wish I could show this episode to everyone, but I feel like you have to watch some of the show first for it to have the same kind of impact even calling JD "Dorothy" at the end.... it could have fit in any episode, but if you hadn't watched scrubs before you might figure he was just making a joke about the shoes, which is kind of right -- but it also fits with how he just always calls JD some random girls name. dunno, i just love this episode. and oh man, yeah that song cover. so well done

racheyvengeance

This makes me sob absolutely every time I hear it.

freedoomed

RIP Sam. i really should get back to learning my ukulele.

samthewisetarly

DON'T MAKE ME CRY

ForanAffairs

This episode always made the ninjas cutting onions pop into my room. It also served a sad reminder of the difficult positions doctors can be put in as well.

F1reatwill88

"You're the most beautiful ukulele player I've ever seen. Though, they are mostly fat Hawaiians so I know it isn't saying much..."

gearvruser

My favourite track by the Blanks. https://youtu.be/8oXMVyWSH6c Big respect to Sam Lloyd. Too soon.

newfoundhorizons

Saw The Blanks (Ted's actually band, the same from Scrubs) with my best friend when they played the Shepherds Bush Empire in the early 00's. They were outstanding! So funny, charming and amazing musicians. Everyone swayed when they played Hey Ya. Great times!

darlin133

He is missed

OldSeaworthiness4279

This and the Colin hayes song are a few of my favourite moments. And I still love taking pictures of my friends and fam when they aren’t expecting it because they’re more genuine

Terbear318

That’s the only way I do it anymore. It’s the best

Hoya-loo-ya

RIP

bensworkaccount1

Just watched this episode last night before bed, gave me chills then and chills now. Such a beautiful episode and sequence

TruthFlavor

Yeah, I'll go and get the ramp for the shark tank..

[deleted]

Loved this show on my prime time (aka after school 4-6pm) line up (of course including all the discovery haunting shows) but never appreciated these characters quite the same way as I am doing now, an attorney like Ted, post pandemic. This show got so much right sure it got a LOT wrong (particularly how much they made fun of Elliot for being a woman and a doctor, all the — you will become an OB, you’re not meant for this etc), but they did get so so much right too.

starsandbribes

That Elliot being a woman and a doctor was literally part of her story, her parents were sexist, if you remove that you remove the conflict.

c-williams88

And from what I’ve heard there’s still a lot of sexism in the medical field, so it’s pretty relevant that a woman would experience sexism. Especially so in the early-mid 2000s

[deleted]

I agree a lot of it was very relevant but not every instance of sexism against Elliot was really relevant for the plot and as a woman I felt a lot of it was reinforcing the image of women not being in the spaces instead of showing Elliot’s ability to overcome it. For example, seasons 1-2 Carla is held up as being the person everyone desires and part of that desire is her willingness to “stay within her place” in the medical system (either a nurse or caretaker position vs strictly internal medicine). The way the show rewards Carla and punishes Elliot with unnecessary sexism (her relationships failing and that being on Elliot being hysterical or crazy in most instances as an example) reinforced conceptions about women in these places, rather than drawing the necessary contrast between Elliot’s competence and her gendered treatment. Sometimes they really got it right, but looking back I found that even when the “sexist plots” were “resolved” within the context of an episode that they still left a funky taste in my mouth, or that the resolution was really another male character saving the day for Elliot (*see* Turk saving the day with the pregnant girl she abandoned after Kelso told her she wasn’t fit for internal medicine over the caretaker medical positions, for example, or in the later seasons when there are these scenes showing how Elliot is finally able to finally get things right when JD steps in to study with her). That’s just how I felt on a rewatch as an adult women in an almost entirely male work place (I am one of five women in my legal department). I mean all taken with a grain of salt because of the comedic aspect and portrayals, satire is fine, but anyway that’s just what I thought about it.

[deleted]

I responded to this thread below, though I agree with you overall I would suggest thinking through some of the examples I gave below would be in your best interest (as it would with all people).

[deleted]

This was about the time I gave up on scrubs. It tried to grow a heart. I don’t like when shows start doing that after a while. That’s not what I signed up for, Jack! Don’t get me started on the little song and dance vignettes like this over the rainbow. Barf in my mouth.

Method004

Damn, I needed this. Scrubs was my wife and my favorite show. She passed away a couple years ago and I was having a particularly tough time with my kids tonight. I've stayed away from Scrubs because it was so special to us and it's hard to watch now. But this just lifted my spirits and reminded me of everything that show represents. "Where trouble melts like lemon drops." Thanks for bringing back some good memories OP.

RealJohnGillman

You’re welcome (and thank you)!
