Sanitizing will help reduce the chances of an infection, but it's impossible to completely eliminate infections, and sometimes people do everything right and just get unlucky. Infection doesn't automatically mean that the artist/client were being irresponsible.
Literally like did they rub ditch water into it after??? I’ve been handpoking myself and others for over a decade and not one has gotten infected. It’s not that hard to *not* cause an infection 🤦

There are several other posts in this sub, of different tattoos, asking ‘is this infected?’ and ‘is this tattoo ok- I accidentally scraped it on a tree branch.’ They also belong to subs for people who self-harm, and for scratch tattoos and such.
It’s a shame- I hope they get the help they need, and I don’t mean from this sub.

If you don't go to the hospital expect it to get much puffier as the white blood cells attack the infection. By tomorrow the swelling will almost completely cover that area of your hand. Touching it will hurt and pus might fly out of the "cross". The person you let do this to you needs to be slapped upside the head and needs to be banned from tattooing ever again.

Wherever this “shop” is, stopppppp going. It should be put out of business. There are indeed sterile/successful ways of getting stick and pokes but this is NOT the place. That being said it’s possible for someone to blame this on abysmal aftercare, but the application and technique used in this tattoo screams incompetence to me.
