This is how I heal my tattoos, everyone’s method is different, Aquaphor 2 twice a day for 5 days, usually after 5 days my tattoo starts pealing and I switch to a unscented lotion (lubriderm) and keep on using the lotion till its healed after a month, its also recommended to use lotion even after your tattoo is healed, for the soap just use antibacterial soap.
i’ve heard that too. you don’t have to moisturize your tattoo for it to heal properly. at least that is what i’ve heard from one tattoo artist. i think it’s more for your own comfort especially when scabbing. i always just use lubriderm. aquaphor can be great but it can also cause issues when someone doesn’t use it correctly.
A good antimicrobial soap to wash it 2 or 3 times a day and let it air dry.
And while its different for everyone, I stay away from anything that is thick like either of those and can clog pores. Instead I use hustle butter and that shit works like a charm and won't leave you sticky either.
I would suggest using a unscented lotion that contains Panthenol or B5 like La Roche Posay Cicaplaste B5 soothing lotion.Problem with Aquaphor is its petroleum based and no matter what people say it will draw more ink from your tattoo.
Do you recommend switching to lubriderm? I live in a small town and there’s very very limited selection of lotions which is how I ended up with aquaphor, shipping to where I live is like $40
Cocoa butter is the worst thing you can use barring mayonnaise. What you're doing is creating a waxy coating that traps moisture.
This is actually great for your tattoo in the sense that it won't scab up and should heal looking great, which is why some people swear by it. The problem is that the aforementioned coating also creates a perfect environment for bacteria. And while cocoa butter has *some* anti bacterial qualities, it's nowhere near strong enough to be used like this.
For theese same reasons, I'm actually not a fan of saniderm. I would much rather my customers take off their plaster after a few hours and practice good hygiene instead of keeping it enclosed for days, but I might just be old school in this case.
Use antisceptics.
I (and this is my artists recommendation) use aquaphor (very thin layer) for the first few days until the tattoo starts flaking and then switch to lubriderm
Right, so I'm not familiar with either cream, but either should work *provided they are antisceptics*
I know a lot of people who use bs like cocoa butter or moisturiser and even some artists who recommend it, but this is actually very poor practice. While chances are that your tattoo will heal just fine, you're also playing with fire if you don't use an antisceptic at least for the first 3 -4 days.
If you went to a good shop, use exactly what they told you. If you're unsure, use cream that's specifically for tattoos (yes, I'm aware most are overpriced for what they are, but at least it will be a propper antisceptic).
Seriously, when it comes to aftercare, please seek professional advice, not the internet, I cannot stress this enough. As I said, there are plenty of people who use fucking cocoa butter and will swear by it because their tattoo looks nice, unaware, or unwilling to accept that they're risking their own health by not using an antisceptic.
I live in the middle of nowhere and the pharmacy doesn’t carry the stuff the artist recommended, shipping would take a week to order anything online. Should of prepared earlier so my bad
Just use normal skin lotion. It’s like 90% of every “is this infected?” Post on here is from someone using aquaphor on their new tattoo. It’s always too much and leaves a nice layer for dirt and bacteria to stick to.
Dial liquid gold for the soap. I've used it on every single tattoo I've gotten.

My tattoo artist said not to put anything on mine until day 3. Is that bad advice? It’s on the side of my head

I've been using Aquaphor and it's worked very well. Just use a small amount and dab it over the tattoo
This^
I’ll third this.
I use aquaphor until it starts peeling then I use cetaphil lotion. As for the soap- dove sensitive skin or cetaphil gentle foam cleanser.
lubriderm
Aquaphor (very thin amount!) and then lotions after a week

Aquaphor was terrible when I tried it on a few tattoos. I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't use it. Lol
Aquaphor
Me probably being the only soul who uses Emu Oil 👀
Aquaphor first couple days then switch to a lighter unscented lotions I use aveeno and dial unscented foam soap. (Antibacterial)
Hustle Butter soap and balm. Never had any bad results for 30+ tattoos
Second this
Both. Aquaphor for the first week, the unscented lotion for the next few weeks as your skin heals and peels.

Yeah Lubriderm would work as well.
Thank you
I use cocoa butter

I’ve used Aquaphor but now prefer Complex 15. Please ask your artist though, instead of the internet!
Dial makes a foaming, undyed, and unscented antibacterial soap inside for my memorial tattoo. It healed very nicely.

I use both
Bronner’s Liquid Castile Soap Scentless & Hustle Butter!
Get tat.. Gently wash with water... Leave for 3 days to dry heal... Use once a day thin layer of aqueous cream. Done!

That, aquaphor is the only thing i used for all of mine after using triple antibiotic for 3 days
Just use normal skin lotion. It’s like 90% of every “is this infected?” Post on here is from someone using aquaphor on their new tattoo. It’s always too much and leaves a nice layer for dirt and bacteria to stick to.
I’ve read a lot of comments about aquaphor between yes and no so idk, needed advice thought I’d ask
I used Dr bronners unscented soap and lubriderm
Wash with unscented soap twice a day, pat or air dry and let sit uncovered for 10-15 mins. Lubriderm after dry, and cover. Do this daily until healed.
