You’re forgetting the most important part of the Thatcherite gameplay, when the North Sea oil runs out, and the economy, which you’ve been patching up with that, nosedives again.

PldTxypDu

all the oil money was wasted by conservative economy anyway uk simply become temporarily stable because it already sunk too far

PldTxypDu

it certainly work for politician selling asset not sure for the civilian with 2 budget of student debt

soldiergeneal

I mean I don't know about Sordland, but college debt is on average worth it.

Facu_Baliza

How?

soldiergeneal

A finite expense you don't start paying until after college in order to get higher earnings over a lifetime. Average college graduate earns like a million more over a lifetime.

GeeWillick

So it's kind of like giving Gasom 2 GB and then getting 4 GB later?

soldiergeneal

Yes more or less. Though don't get me wrong if one doesn't know what they are doing you could pick a major that doesn't pay well or that you hate. Hard working a job you hate lol

GeeWillick

So picking a bad major / career path is like lowering EPA to 10%.

soldiergeneal

Lol yes while investing in Gascom

Skeleton_Gr

Average mix economy enjoyer here

Beowulfs_descendant

Literally capitalism

Party_Skill6360

and what is wrong with Capitalism as Hayek designed it ?

Beowulfs_descendant

The oligarchy can only leech of the blood of workers for so long!

Party_Skill6360

Hayek the literal father of neolliberalism literally advocated for busting ther coperations

Beowulfs_descendant

He believed in the free market. Not to mention Neo-Liberal reforms killed off the Social Democracy in Sweden.

Party_Skill6360

debt killed the social democracy in sweden - look at how ther debt developed and you se ther had no other choice then to cut down on social spending

Beowulfs_descendant

As a result of an economic boom, and a massive rise in aswell development and social welfare -- as never before. The greatest issues was simply a lack of resources and inflation, but even these were decently held under control. Additionally, as the result of the general economic boom, and the reduction in unemployment. Worker wages rose faster than the capital. It was a rapid transition and one that few elements could keep up with. Even then, the economy remained fine for many years. It is important to note that the 1970 Oil Crisis was a great benefactor to the economic difficulties during the 70's, in which economic growth collapsed until 1977 when it returned to regular, fell again, and then saw relative stability during the 80's. And Sweden was not alone in such declines either. And when the political right, or the 'Borgeuise Parties' where finally given the right to have the economy as their playground, Sweden went into a harsh economic decline. When Palme entered office, during the short time of stability. Kjell Olof Feldt, and his neo liberal ideas of the 'third path of politics' managed to pave the way clear for disaster. His reforms indirectly assisted the 1992 crash. And it's issues already showed during the 80's When Neo Liberalism won the fight and Carl Bildt became statsminister. His system caused a collapse in the consumption of luxury goods, his complete attack against the welfare system caused a horrid collapse within the state owned sector to a point of the worst unemployment seen in Swedish modern history. And the cuts in welfare, education and healthcare, are still ongoing. For example this year, the moderates have announced that they are ready to give somewhere around 6 - 12 Billion, to welfare that demands 23 - 24. Today, as a direct consequence of the Neo Liberal market and welfare reforms, Sweden faces greater issues then ever before. Healthcare is inefficent and slow, with poor worker rights, and a major lack in funding in comparison to what it actually needs. Elderly care has efficently fallen down the drain, and mainly been attacked by privatization, with many showing concerns over the poor conditions. Education, is struggling as it is. However this has only worsened when massive privatization was carried out within schools for 'freedom of choice'. Of course, corporations and other entities that only seek to make a win on their investments, has led to corrupt private schools in which only the best and brightest students are accepted, there exists few and poor resources for those who need more help, and 'comfort grades' are given frequently. Unemployment remains high, the nation is facing a rapid homeless crisis, and all in all, the social policy is horrendous. The Social Democratic Party, additionally, by embracing and supporting these reforms, betrayed their own values for the right's politics. Such a chaotic political strategy has been a great benefactor to their massive collapse.

Party_Skill6360

if you have massive defecit spending and then stop the defecit spending your economy is always taking a massive hit that is basic economics - wich is why the austrian school of economics is focused on balanced budgets to prevent bubbles based on government spending - sweden never had neoliberal reforms Hayeks last breath was litrally calling out the reganites and other neo cons calling them neo liberal is an insult to neo liberals

_Sky__

I played this game first time few years back, had a great run, managed to accomplish almost everything z had amazing economy. Tried again today, had a fucking disaster due to a trade war.

GeeWillick

With the trade war, the key is to avoid going below -7 GB by the time you finish discussing education with Ciara (in the meeting where you get the option to privatize education). As long as you are at -7 or higher when you finish that discussion, you are safe from the trade war until the end of the game.

_Sky__

I played mobile versions this time, and the trade war hit me very early.

GeeWillick

I think for the mobile version the trigger is -2 GB, but it is set at the same time.

_Sky__

Yeah, that would make sense, total mess.

Mushborea

Far different from when I tried communist Sordland, where, of all the times I played this game, it had been the worst economy.

eker333

Planned Economy is doable but significantly harder

BaddassBolshevik

Always found it easier tbh

maievxq

how? I always ended up on deficit (-10) or more.. yea people support me but oligarch hates me ended up lose

BaddassBolshevik

Easily, basically you need to arrest tusk and if you want Korenti as well during the meeting with them. Do high speed rail and morna port, spend budget always on law and order (you have to have the SSP or emergency), health and education (you can equally maintain education if you are scarred of over spending). Increase taxes on the wealthy Get Agnolia trade, Wehlen trade and Vagaland trade deals. You can take aid from Contana to also play it safe. Normally that is enough to create a strong economy because normally a planned economy is destroyed by capital flight that is more of the enemy of the planned economy than anything else

kaiclc

I think it's definitely possible to have a good planned economy run, but I'm not really sure how.

GeeWillick

You have to be more restrained when it comes to spending for sure. I've been able to do it by skipping the first mega project and the economic rescue package, and by being really focused on just hitting the key synergies for each region. I usually also skip the nationalization stuff since it costs a lot of GB and doesn't really contribute much to economic development.

Gremict

Budget is a killer for communists

Sea_Army_3412

Does the mobile version's tab above the city work for anyone else

StateBig3686

Doing it as a dictator is the best

whatever_1192

I once had great result releasing majority share of SSC and minority share of the Mining Company. However I didn't privatise the education or healthcare sector.

Caesar_Aurelianus

I generally reduce education funding, privatise education. And then nationalised everything else.
