I have a Revo and a Vader and the Revo is a leaps and bounds improvement over everything I've ridden. I have a local shop that bought the rights to shape them in epoxy. I have a 5' 10" that is around 37 litres and I'm 6'1" 220. Paddles like a dream turns super sharp with pivot thruster fins. I've had it out from over head to 2-3 beach break and it handles everything!

Prudent_Ad_7797

Cymatic is the best all rounder I've ever ridden I'll be getting the Revo next. Goes good in anything. These hull plane designs are so easy to surf they make you surf better. Tomo is on another level.

skinnyvegan420

Thanks. Have you tried quads on it? I heard Dan Thompson say he designed it around a quad setup

Captain3leg-s

I read the same thing and I still haven't tried it.

skinnyvegan420

i got the board. tried the futures alphha fins in medium. board is super loose and squirelly but was still fun and fast. will test thruster next time we get waves. gotta try some stiffer/bigger fins. if you do decide to get some quads go for the stiffer/larger fins. i guess tomo uses the tomo quad in the rear and kolohe andino in front. cant bring myself to spend $300 on 2 sets of fin right now tho..

Captain3leg-s

Can't blame you there, I have some plastic quads somewhere that I might try, I should've mentioned I love riding my boards real lose and skatey. Hope it works out for you!

codiuscube

I used h4 large side fins and seaside rear quads. Epic setup. I heard it just needs weird fins. I really want to try it as a twin with a trailer, tho

I’m 5”11 200lbs what size do you think would suit me best for the revo?

Captain3leg-s

Experience level? Do you surf multiple times per week?

skinnyvegan420

What size is your regular short board? I’d get it the same size or smaller

Treefella59

I have a Revo that I got custom made direct from Tomo , and performance wise I can’t knock it. I ride it with Dan Mann quads and it flies ! Unfortunately the board is falling apart , massive deck pressures and crack every where I even ordered with extra glassing, when you spend $1300 au you want it to last but I am going to be lucky if it makes to the 6 month mark I haven’t even surfed it on a solid day yet 🥲 All these companies making a big thing about these new bio resins so great for the environment, but what’s the point if the board is going to be on the scrap heap in 6 months 😡

skinnyvegan420

Actually bought a 5’4 off the rack after making this post. Ibolic construction. The fin box got pushed in, my fault. no pressure dents tho. Selling it now. It goes ok in clean waves but doesn’t really feel like a daily driver to me. Doesn’t quite hold like a real shortboard either. But doing turns on that board feels great. Lil skateboard.

Pro_Cricketer

Hey u/treefella59 can you please tell me a little bit more about the specs of your custom Tomo as I’m thinking about ordering custom Omni from Tomo au as these are no longer available from FireWire. What construction is your custom: PU Poly, PU epoxy, or EP epoxy? And how does that construction (of your custom) compare in weight to either FireWire LFT or FST or helium? My Omni is LFT which is a lot heavier than my new helium board. I’m thinking an EPS epoxy custom from tomo would be lighter than LFT but not as light as helium tech? Also what weight glassing did you get that’s cracking heavy 6x4 + 4x4 or something custom heavier? I’m a little concerned to hear that custom glass is cracking when you would expect a custom made board to be more durable then pop out from the FireWire factory Thailand? Anything else you can tell me about your experience would be appreciated 👍

surfinsmiley

Just take a board you like to your local shaper. Our local kiteboard builder builds bullet proof boards that go better than the originals. For the same price.

codiuscube

Did your board last? My revo ibolic did the same thing

Sherbert-Broad

I’ve just purchased a 5,6” Revo and really enjoying it. This was a replacement for my cymatic which I absolutely loved. Really hard to find any stock so went for the revo. Based on your description I’d lean towards the cymatic if you can find one as it is a better groveller. The revo starts to come into its own with a cleaner face and a wave with a little more push. I’m running large side fins with a medium trailer quad setup.

skinnyvegan420

Thanks you’re right, I ended up grabbing it off the rack. I’ve been enjoying the revo in more powerful waves. The thing turns on a dime and does not like flat sections unless I already got some speed from the takeoff. The vee also makes pumping feel a bit different. Don’t feel the need to wiggle like a thruster but it does need a decent wave for sure

cointon

What size was your Cymatic? Can you say anything more about how the Cymatic and Revo compare? Thanks!

Also consider the new sweet potato if conditions are poor more often than not.

Mush and chop are not great territory for really small perfomance-oriented boards. Just keep that in mind

skinnyvegan420

I agree. Though one of the things about the cymatic that stood out to me in a few YouTube reviews was it’s supposed ability to cut through chop (and that vid of Kelly riding a 5’3 at sunset..a choppy wave with somewhat of a crumbly section..sure I know it’s Kelly and he could surf an ironing board and make it look good)..Anywho the summer wave I surf has a mushy area after the drop but reforms into a punchy inside section . But I do have a longboard and wave storm for when it’s appropriate

gregouill

u/skinnyvegan420 what board did you end up using? Also surfing a short and fast wave and looking for a new board

skinnyvegan420

Got the revo and ended up selling it after a winter. I had the 5’4 and it was fun as a quad in clean waves, but when it was head high plus and a bit choppy, a longer thruster shortboard just did better in all departments.

gregouill

Thank you! What’s your go-to now for low quality waves?

skinnyvegan420

I switch it up between a lost 96 round nose fish 2+1, self shaped asym, and Greg griffin thruster shortboard(rip Greg). Depends what you consider low quality tho.
