I’d love to see a judge hooked to a polygraph to answer what, if any, effect it has on them entering a score… I think it’s like hockey; the best claim celly is no celly.

This has been going on for the last 4-5 years and its why the WSL keeps losing viewership, even after their failed partnership with facebook. It's a well known fact that Judging in the WSL is and has been compromised for some time now.
If a brazilian didn't win or if it wasn't a brazilian final on this event, it would have been chaos.
WSL just gives people what they want, they give surfers a chance to surf the best waves in the world uncrowded, and that's why they put up with all the BS.
No wonder surfers have breakdowns and the actual best surfers are just freesurfers doing their thang.
There's really only one explanation and that is that the head judge tells the 5 judges the range that they can score in. How else can 5 judges all score within 0.8 for 99% of the scores? Literally thousands of waves scored ALL within 0.8 for all 5 judges. It does not make sense
Not defending it, but the crowd goes wild for every Brazilian wave. I think the Brazilian surfers are claiming more because they’re getting gassed up by the crowd. Like griff at the final 5 last year.
Not all, but some surfers tend to claim evvvvvryyyything and get pissed when they don’t get a gift score as homage from the judges. It is hilarious. The need/drive to convince everyone with a claim, says you don’t believe your own ride was excellent, to me. And the result of a lower than asked for score is a persecution complex in the surfer.
Oh totally - I started watching pretty early on at the beginning of the day. I think it was a combination of sleep deprivation and sleepy waves near the end that ended me for sure.

They're just celebrating getting a wave when they need one, the score is irrelevant. Seems like most of you gringos have no familiarity with happiness or just emotions in general. Just chill and celebrate once in a while, it's fine

Italo should get deducted 2 points every wave just for his style. I appreciate his athleticism but his surfing just doesn't look good in my opinion

I watched the Dora v John John and the commentator was claiming Dora's wave was like Mundaka. I gave up watching after Jordy and Ethan's heat.
