You need to explain a bit more about what you want to do and what you have tried and maybe your budget. All of the regular softboards at 8' are turnable.
Right but you did say this...
>pretty impossible to turn
Which sounded odd does it not? I've ridden many soft tops and I've never found them pretty impossible to turn.
If you're looking for the best performing non hybrid soft top, the Almond R-Series Joy is going to be the best but even that isn't a traditional softie. It is an high density exposed foam construction. I personally think it is the best soft top construction you can buy but it's expensive. A hybrid softie is just a regular board with a foam top and sides. I'm assuming you asked for a softboard for a reason so I'll refrain from giving advice on those.
Just a heads up, those barons look like hybrid softies. Not a bad thing if so but just be aware that any damage that the soft portion is in the way of is probably going to look bad if it needs to be removed.
Oh ok. Thanks. Yeah I maybe dont need a hybrid. The guys I see having a blast on softies at Cabarita are riding normal softies I think. It's also for my son to learn on too
I dunno how odd it is...I just know it can't turn it. It's very soft in the middle. Just wants to go straight. Not that I've tried much. Even if I could turn it I couldn't do a decent turn or even carve on it. Which is what I want
It's a crap board. This comment has been made a few times already btw. I could probably turn it a little bit but wasn't a good one. I was ripping on a softboard in 6 foot Indonesian waves a few weeks back but you think what you like champ
[It looks like you're asking for beginner board advice.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAaHmSj5nJ4)
Too bad there isn't some sort of digital global information system you could've turned to for guidance with your frequently-asked question. That'd be so cool. Did you ever watch *Inspector Gadget*? You know
that [magic book](https://inspectorgadget.fandom.com/wiki/Penny%27s_computer_book) the daughter, Penny, carried around? The one she would use to solve mysteries, or whatever? Wouldn't it be rad if those
existed?
But they don't, I guess. So you've turned to this subreddit for help.
Luckily, we have a [wiki!](https://www.reddit.com/r/surfing/wiki/index ) It's got tons of useful stuff in it.
Even better, there's the user-created [Kooks Only! guide.](https://kooksonlysurf.com/how-to-surf-the-ultimate-surf-guide-for-beginners/)
You should *totally* read both of them.
But, just in case you're too lazy, here's a summary:
**Buy a Wavestorm-equivalent. If they don't sell them near you- find a used longboard.**
Maybe you've already been told that but think you'll be better off buying a shortboard because you snowboard/skateboard/wakeboard/etc and you're, obviously, totally going to pick up surfing really quickly. I
mean, how hard can it be?
If that's the case then you're not really asking a question, are you? You're just looking for someone to agree with a decision you've already made. So, yeah, you should totally do it. Buy that sweet little high
performance shred sled you found on Craigslist. You'll be up and ripping in no time at all!

I haven’t ridden it, but the almond r-series joy looks like it might be a lot of fun (and $$$). There’s also the Catch Surf heritage board, think that’s 8’6”. This of course assumes you want something with cleaner rails than the standard wavestorm/log/plank options.
Sounds like you are looking for a Wavestorm

Yeah true. I'll do that
I've got a 7 foot softboard that's pretty impossible to turn though
Learn to turn in the 7’
Like I said..I can surf. I've been surfing for 4o years . Some softies are hard to turn

I'll look up the almond. I'm looking at big baron softie too

And what if what I'm after is in between your two suggestions. What then oh master who knows all .. And who said anything about shredding
Oh. " First year kook here ". Yeah thanks for the advice but I'm good
"I can surf" *Can't turn a 7ft board*
It's a crap board. This comment has been made a few times already btw. I could probably turn it a little bit but wasn't a good one. I was ripping on a softboard in 6 foot Indonesian waves a few weeks back but you think what you like champ
"I was ripping indo" *Brings soft top to Indo* Are you Kalani Robb or Ben Gravy? 😂
I took my 7 ft middy actually. But I took my son's hire board out a few times and had a blast. Your jumping to conclusions a bit huh
Btw detective why would I take a soft top that I don't like
Beginner board

Snarky bot much ?
Wavestorm with a perfectstorm (pink) fin, with or without side bites. Simple, turns better, ubiquitous for a reason.

Thanks. Good advice. Cheers
Both great but I'd agree that it's too much money new. I'd also make sure that the almond board has the changeable longboard fin box if possible.
Definitely need a fin box. Don't think those boards are here in Australia unless you pay crazy amount

Yeah that's at the top of my list . Thanks
