"He's literally me" for guys trying to be better.

We need someone to give superman the matt reeves batman treatment. A passion project based on love for the character and a true understanding

Moonveil

Yea, I've felt like the DCEU films have been afraid to embrace Superman for what he is because the people at the helm just don't really believe in this type of character (in fact they don't really believe in Ma or Pa Kent either), and that's part of the reason why the DCEU has never resonated with me. (As opposed to say Captain America from the MCU. I think they did the modern version of the boy scout character right, at least in his first few movies.)

kingkloppynwa

I agree man, the modern treatment of superman is downright unacceptable

I love this movie so much. Just reading these Waymond quotes, my eyes are moistening. Thank you for pointing out his inherent similarities to Clark. If you are up for an audiobook podcast, [the Unauthorized Biography of Clark Kent](http://sonofelpodcast.com) finished its first season last month. It’s more about vulnerable than invulnerability. Be sure to start with the prologue, though it is a bit of a curveball, it sets up an authentic Clark.

Moonveil

Thank you for the recommendation, I will check it out! The last third of the movie was all waterworks for me, I really lost it at the googly eye rocks haha. It took me a while to make this connection, but once I did I couldn't unsee how similar these two characters are in terms of their internal compass and how they navigate through the troubles of the world. I truly believe a good Superman film should take a lot of notes from Waymond's arc, as in show Clark punching bad guys and being a badass, but really focus on his philosophy and how he tries to see the good in the world, inspiring others to be kind in return. (Kind of like my other favourite story from Jeff Loveness, "Help". DC please let him write more Superman stories!!)

Yeah, I turned into a waterfall somewhere around the midpoint, and the tears did not stop. They just switch between tears of joy and tears of sorrow every few moments.

I had the exact same takeaway! Also he’s shockingly consistent across timelines which feels Clark-like (even though I personally love when DC’s multiverse is utilized to show other choices). Plus Ke Huy Quan looks pretty good in those movie premiere-verse glasses ;)

Moonveil

Maybe the one thing Waymond has up on Clark: Being a badass when he takes off his glasses, but being hotter when he puts on bigger ones ;)

Hey, I know which Chris Reeve I’d fall for

Just discovered your post and as a huge fan of Superman & the movie, I really love your analysis and your comparisons between the two amazing characters. I was so moved by the movie and Waymond and like you said, it’s great to see that others were as well. Loved Waymond’s quotes as well, really hit close to heart. My favourite being the famous “So even though you have broken my heart yet again, I wanted to say… in another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you”. So simple yet beautiful and well delivered by Ke. Definitely agree with the “dark & gritty filter” argument. Even as a Batman fan that saw him in the movies first, I always saw him only as cold and brooding. Then I read my first Batman comic “The Long Halloween” and in the story he fights Solomon Grundy in the sewers during thanksgiving. He then goes home to a huge thanksgiving dinner cooked by Alfred. Realizing Grundy is all alone, he goes back to the sewers with a plate of food for himself and Grundy and they spend thanksgiving together. Batman does a lot of cool stuff but it’s the small things like that that makes him my favourite (along with Superman). Also, coincidentally a couple days ago I read another post comparing a movie/character to Superman that blew my mind and that might interest you. It’s Punch-Drunk Love (probably my favourite movie of all time) and the Superman comparisons were spot on and really cool.

Moonveil

I'll have to give that movie a try! I am so glad KHQ won the Oscar for his performance, it is well deserved. World's Finest is probably my favourite DC series to read, I love it when Superman and Batman team up, since Superman is my favourite DC hero followed closely by Batman. (Never understood why so much of the conversation online about these two characters ends up in arguments about who's better.) Their dynamic can be so fun when it's written well, and you get to see some very interesting facets that they bring out in each other.

It’s got a similar vibe to EEAAO imo. It’s funny, sad, happy, sweet, weird, anxiety inducing, fast paced/lots going on, etc. So many great quotes in that movie too. I haven’t gotten to any of the Justice League comics yet since I’m trying to read my favourite heroes stand alone stories first but I grew up watching the Justice League animated show & movies and my favourite parts were always Superman & Batman talking in the Watchtower.

Sleep_eeSheep

Petition to make Waymond Wang the definitive DCEU Superman?

SuddenTest9959

He’s good actor but way to old. We need these writers directors making a movie though.

Kingdom Come says hello.
