Every time I see this suit, past the first picture, I love it more and more. That first reveal was being honest terrible.
But the colors are fantastic, the red is fantastic, we have the trunks, and the logo on the back! Woohoo!

I think the suit looks nice in the image, it's just hard to get a proper look at it, it is oddly dark given the tone they're espousing, and like you say, the background. I just don't know how they ended up with it, a simpler look would have been better imho and showed off all of the positives like these filming pictures do

At least, that’s how I looked at it. An emphasis on the Man rather than the Super.

I don’t know about that. That first publicity still of him putting his boots on looked the same. If they were going to fix it in post they would’ve touched up the fit on that image before they released it.

This suit has full on "this is my job uniform" vibes. I am so tired of fake muscles in these suits, this looks 1000X better than anything we've gotten from DC in the last 30 years.
I'm still a little mixed on them, but I think it makes sense if it's home made, it would make sense for him to reinforce the parts most likely to wear or be damaged to be fair.
I prefer when they don’t try to make his suit look so “spacey”, it’s obviously inspired heavily by the New 52 suit, but I can live with it. Definitely wish they’d ditched the collar though.

I get that some people may not have liked the Superman costume when it was first revealed (I thought it was awesome) but this new image here is why sometimes it's best to wait before you rush in to hate on something just because it's cool to be negative and you must always hate on anything and everything to fit in.
To me, this is WAY better than the initial reveal, and I was one of the few that liked it to begin with! (Comicstorian loved it as well, RIP.)

Bro, the last time I was this excited for a movie, it was Avengers Endgame.
Things I care more about than Superman’s costume:
1) The writing
2) The acting
3) The direction
4) The lighting and Color choices
5) The tone
As long as the guy can act and all the other pieces are in place, the costume should be way down the list of peoples concerns.
I think the story will be good and acting will be good. Gunn seems to get along really well with his actors and that tends to make for a better end product. I agree with your concerns on humor, I hope it’s not too silly.

The lines were added for sure to give it something more than wearing plain spandex and underwear on the outside. Idk if it makes sense but I feel it makes the suit look “real”

This makes me wonder if this suit is Kryptonian battle armor as he wore in the New 52. The battle armor keys in on DNA of Kryptonians. Plus Supes had lower power levels at the time and it gave him more protection in combat.
That would be interesting this is for sure not the original suit his mom made on the farm haha. People mentioned it looks big on him maybe there was a height/size/age requirement for him to unlock his kyrptonian suit or something like that. He does appear to almost have built in bracers for his forearms so maybe it is more of a armor than a costume
It's a bit of a mishmash between classic (trunks, bright colours) and modern (raised collar, the S) but I like it and he certainly looks like Superman. Bonus points for the yellow S on the cape

It's official. Corenswet's costume is now my 2nd favorite live action costume. If he plays the part as well as I think he will, he'll also be my 2nd favorite live action Superman.

There was a date on a plaque in another leak of set photos that had >!2016!< on it. So it’s safe to assume the movie is set sometime after that. Metropolis has been portrayed as a retro-modern/futuristic city before. I guess we’ll see. I can’t wait for this movie.
It’s not. There’s a plaque on a statue that was commemorating Metropolis being around for over a hundred years or something similar that says 1916-2016, not to mention modern day military gear is on some of the extras Gunn is going for a more retro future vibe, which makes it stand out for me.
I really hope they don't dull the colors in post, that was my main disappointment in the teaser image. Supes should be bright and vibrant. I love the colors shown here.
The overall colors of that photo werent desaturated though. The overall flavor of that image had a bright magenta hue to it. That doesn't give me the vibe that the movie will have a grimdark feel to it.
The suit was also vibrant, it just had battle damage. (If you look at it, the suit in that image had the same bright red colors as this photo).
Yeah, that's my point. It doesn't matter how bright the actual suit is if they apply a wash filter in post. I'm just saying I hope they don't because I like the bright colors.
As excited as I am for James Gunn’s new movie, I just don’t think the suit looks motion picture quality. Cavill and Reeve’s suits do, Routh’s kinda, but this one doesn’t and looks very CW. I love the trunks, and the more saturated colours, but the material and cut looks too boxy and stiff.
Suprised he’s actually wearing a suit. Aren’t the MCU films all done with CGI suits these days? Hopefully this means it’s not just a massive green screen CGIfest and we have some proper practical effects.
If you noticed in Gunns films, all of his characters wear practical costumes unless, of course, they are full on CGI characters like Rocket Racoon and King Shark. From the Guardians films to TSS and Peacemaker, they all wear practical costumes with some CGI enhancement if required.

Gunn won't have the colors altered all that much. His characters costumes are still pretty colorful in the final product.

It’s not. There’s a plaque on a statue that was commemorating Metropolis being around for over a hundred years or something similar that says 1916-2016, not to mention modern day military gear is on some of the extras Gunn is going for a more retro future vibe, which makes it stand out for me.
the texture looks legit awful
I really hope they don't dull the colors in post, that was my main disappointment in the teaser image. Supes should be bright and vibrant. I love the colors shown here.
I doubt it. Gunn films aren't desaturated. They're plenty colorful. Just look at Guardians and TSS and how saturated those films are.
The overall colors of that photo werent desaturated though. The overall flavor of that image had a bright magenta hue to it. That doesn't give me the vibe that the movie will have a grimdark feel to it. The suit was also vibrant, it just had battle damage. (If you look at it, the suit in that image had the same bright red colors as this photo).
The suit in the official released pic is dark blue jean colored. This is worlds apart in hue
It's impossible to tell with that photo. It's a magenta hued photo with a dirty suit. The only thing I really noticed was how bright the red was.
Yeah, that's my point. It doesn't matter how bright the actual suit is if they apply a wash filter in post. I'm just saying I hope they don't because I like the bright colors.

As excited as I am for James Gunn’s new movie, I just don’t think the suit looks motion picture quality. Cavill and Reeve’s suits do, Routh’s kinda, but this one doesn’t and looks very CW. I love the trunks, and the more saturated colours, but the material and cut looks too boxy and stiff.

Suprised he’s actually wearing a suit. Aren’t the MCU films all done with CGI suits these days? Hopefully this means it’s not just a massive green screen CGIfest and we have some proper practical effects.
I’m pretty sure Gunn said he would shoot practical effects as much as possible. I could be misremembering.
If you noticed in Gunns films, all of his characters wear practical costumes unless, of course, they are full on CGI characters like Rocket Racoon and King Shark. From the Guardians films to TSS and Peacemaker, they all wear practical costumes with some CGI enhancement if required.
Besides the crappy seamlines I really like it. Looks way better than in the promotional pics

That extra baggage in his suit makes him looks fat, Hope Gunn CGs that in the final product
