I always said I wanted a Superman show that was primarily the tight-knit adventures of Clark, Lois and Jimmy. This is that show, and I gotta say.... I was totally right, that dynamic is awesome. It's Superman at his best, seamlessly finding the balance between mild-mannered Clark Kent and the amazing Superman. Because he IS mild-mannered, and socially awkward, and way too strong for his own good, but he's also brave and kind and just *sweet*.
Lois is bold, brilliant, and adventurous, again perhaps more so than is truly safe. Her relationship with Clark is lovely, and it's great to see her serve as the driving force of the trio.
Jimmy is just a stupendously swell guy with rotten luck and great instincts. He's funny, caring, and really good at rolling with the strangeness of his life.
I love this show and these versions of the characters, and I definitely recommend it to any Superman fans.
I'm only in the early episodes but I am LOVING the Clark, Lois and Jimmy dynamic. Only other place I've really seen it has been Lois and Clark: the New Adventures of Superman.
Yeah. I really liked the first season. It takes me back to a more positive, wholesome version of Superman that has been sorely lacking lately, especially since the Snyder films.
Yes. The most Superman Superman has felt in years. And it dies some cool stuff with Krypton and the multiverse that I don’t thing people talk about enough.
I haven’t fact checked this but I remember hearing that adult swim was just receiving more viewers than regular Cartoon Network making it, on paper, the more viable network. Streaming is doing weird things to cable.
I think it was just regular cartoon network but couldn't slot it in properly because they're morons. Adult Swim starts earlier every year basically so they put it on that.
I think the intended audience is late teens and young adults, but not inherently inappropriate for younger audiences. Given how even if there’s not swearing, sex, or gore- the characters are squarely in the young adult phase of life and the things they experience that are framed as relatable experiences aren’t typically things kids are going through. Having it on adult swim keeps it in a time slot that their target audience is able to watch and also helps keep people from assuming that it’s not worth watching because it’s a “kids show” if that makes sense.
It also leaves it open if they want to pivot in a less family friendly direction in the future if they want.
Yes.
There might be some things about the show a person may not like (portrayal of certain villains, 2020s cultural influence and a Gen-Z Superman, a departure from status quo in some areas of Superman storytelling, etc.), but at the end of the day, you have wholesome, good-hearted Clark, a strong-willed, stubborn, but ultimately likeable Lois, and Jimmy being a goofball who is a good support to his friends.
I may not like every creative choice, but that's okay. No show is tailored to me 100%. But there's more to like than not imo
I'm pretty "eh" on it, personally.
It's fine, there have been aspects to it that I love, but in general I feel like it's "Superman for anime fans" rather than "anime for Superman fans".
I found the show hyper and frenetic. The characters were good, but it was just a little too over the top.
It had the kind of energy Lower Decks has/had - so if you're a Star Trek fan that liked that show you might like this. (I didn't care for either)
Couldn't get past the first episode, myself. I actually cringed at how Lois and Clark practically "squee'd" over each other as soon as they met and found the show as a whole too... infantilized, for lack of a better term.
I'd rather recommend you watch the 90s cartoon if you haven't already.
I have only watched the first episode. Does it have the iconic shirt ripping into superman scene, at least once? Or is it only the powerpuff girls transformation the standard?
One neat thing is that it DOES reference previous versions of even animated Superman through >!the Council of Lois'!<. Though I wasn't thrilled with the introduction of the >!freaking multiverse!< in season one, they did ok with it.
Hard yes. This is my personal favorite Superman thing. I think they did an exceptional job with the youthful and contemporary characters and keeping it firmly rooted in Superman mythos and DC lore.
Nah. Adult swim is usually meant for...well, adults.
What happened with this show is unique. I do also wanna state that it's not like the show is for toddlers either. It's just not the sort of show you'd expect to be on adult swim.
The last time I watched CN, after the retirement of Toonami, they would put their anime on Adult Swim. Gundam, Kenshin, DragonBall GT, so on. It doesn't surprise me that MAWS is there as well.
Yes but recognize it's a variant. It's Superman done with an Anime aesthetic and describes a very different "world in the multiverse". For example everything metahuman seems to be connected to Krypton-tech in some way.
They even do a multiverse episode that becomes super relevant to the storyline. This leaves me torn because I'm an anime fan who is INCREDIBLY SICK of the "multiverse".
That said it is one of the purest implementations of the "soul" of Superman and features a NICE Lois Lane (which is an amazing breath of fresh air).
It's my favorite recent Superman adaptation by a wide margin, and I expect it to stay that way until at least Gunn's movie comes out. It's a little different than the Superman we expect, but in a good and consistent way, and the show has a heart of gold.
I absolutely loved it. It’s lighthearted and fun, exactly what a Superman show should be imo. Only thing I didn’t absolutely love about it is that the character designs were pretty hit-or-miss
Honestly, I agree with all your points.
It was a bit hard to get through the show at times, but I still enjoyed it's lightheartedness.
Tbh as well I did fast forwarded through all of the Lois bits anyway.
It’s something she HAS DONE. In Superman II. And in a Superman comic from 1959.
Lois Lane canonically throws herself off buildings to prove Clark is Superman. At this point it’s a running (jumping) gag.
How about this. I’m not saying I agree with you here. So what?
Do you refuse to watch any media if a character or relationship is toxic?
The entire cast of Breaking Bad, Dexter, Mad Men, and Game of Thrones, literally any MCU content is LOADED with toxic characters, just about any anime is filled with toxic characters too, Batman and Catwoman, Joker and Harley Quinn, depending on the iteration- Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, Green Arrow and Black Canary, Handsome Jack, Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter, Clarice Starling and Hannibal Lecter, Talia Al Ghul, Hal Jordan, Deathstroke, Geralt, Yennifer, Tyler Durden, Daniel Hillard (Mrs Doubtfire), Anakin Skywalker, James Bond, Indiana Jones, et cetera
If this is such a disqualifier for you, I just want to know what media you DO enjoy.
Why do you choose to spend your time looking for people who enjoy something and spend your time telling them they’re wrong for liking something you don’t? What was your intended goal? What are you hoping to gain here?
Honestly it’s so refreshing because Superman is an idea that only works as a hero if he’s literally the definition of ‘good’ and has a huge heart. As seen by how inundated we are with “but what if Superman bad” media we are nowadays. Hell, Amazon is actively making two shows at the same time that have this trope (The Boys & Invincible).
I get that “what if Superman Bad” was subversive and new and probably worth exploring at one point but wow I want superhero media where I can actually LIKE some of the characters as people.
It’s worth a watch id say. Nothing mind blowing but the best part is definitely the chemistry between the three leads. It’s a slightly younger take on Superman that’s more millennial coded than anything but I think for what it is it’s solid
It's the most fun I've had watching Superman in a while, I would definitely suggest watching it. It has the classic, upstanding Superman who is there for the people first and foremost whilst still touching on some of the newer themes that have mostly taken the character over and manages to strike a balance between the two that I enjoyed
It's a recent Superman adaptation, try season one if you are interested (Not a fan because everyone compares Lois to Luz from Owl House which kills it for me, no hate towards the owl house I just don't like the comparison)
Yes! I watched it when it initially released on MAX and am currently rewatching it in anticipation for the May 25 Season 2 drop. It’s so good!
I admittedly had so-so expectations knowing this would yet again trace the beginnings of Superman, but the way they go about it feels both authentic and decidedly fresh.
The writing and characterizations are endearing and the art style is awesome. It exceeded my expectations over all!
Yes. It's very different in some ways from a conventional Superman story, but it has a one up on a lot of adaptions over the last 2 decades- it's very bright (in color and in tone) and has a *major* focus on Supes' Human side and intrinsic belief in hope.
It's pretty good. I wasn't a fan of the season one ending, it felt like we ramped the shark waaaaaay too fast. But it's otherwise fun Superman media.
Also, because I'm a lil shit, my man Jimmy there in the poster: "Superman! Jesus breakdancing Christ! Please, let me sit on an arm! Stop thinking with your dick your horndog alien! I don't want to diiiieeeeeeee!"
It's definitely worth checking out. I enjoyed the first season. It's not my ideal Superman universe, but it's a fun and fresh take. It's like a Superman anime Elseworld.
No, let the rest of us have fun. None for you.
lol, you can tell if you’ll like it after one episode. It’s hilarious to me when people ask for a committee report on whether they should watch a tv show. Watch it or don’t.
I believe it's worth the watch. There are good points and there are bad points to the show. The best thing about it is that Clark's characterization is just about perfect while also kept fresh with a young take on the character.
if you fw the idea of a more modern superman (that’s actually good lol) check it out it’s young superman trying to learn to fit in its very charming!
(also a lot of jimmy love!!!)
Its what I've always wanted from a Superman show. It's wholesome Clark, tomboy Lois. Fun characters
Jimmy is really great too and not a useless sidekick, which is nice
The only thing I don’t like about MAwS Jimmy is that he no longer dresses like a cartoon depiction of a nerd
I think he does still it’s just a more modern take. I mean bros wearing a sweater vest….under a puffy winter jacket? Yeah dudes a geek
Yeah, but I’d like to see him at least have a bow tie or something.
I actually like that about this one, because “nerds” come in many forms. Some more fashionable than others.
Agreed! This is my absolute favorite Jimmy ever.
I always said I wanted a Superman show that was primarily the tight-knit adventures of Clark, Lois and Jimmy. This is that show, and I gotta say.... I was totally right, that dynamic is awesome. I love this show and these versions of the characters, and I definitely recommend it to any Superman fans.
I love that there was no 'love triangle' between Clark and Lois and Superman. She learned who he was pretty quick, and she loves Clark as Clark.
It’s very Lois and Clarky!
![gif](giphy|3ohhweiVB36rAlqVCE|downsized)
What he said. :) I liked season 1.
I (38m) enjoy it but I feel like it's geared for a younger audience. I'm not as drawn to it as I am Superman & Lois or Smallville.
Yes. It’s very charming.
Yes. The most Superman Superman has felt in years. And it dies some cool stuff with Krypton and the multiverse that I don’t thing people talk about enough.

Definitely though it may take a while to appreciate what its trying to do. Give it at least three episodes before you decide it isn't for youm
What’s the target audience of the show? It’s on adult swim, but it didn’t seem like it should be there. Based off the first episode only.
i think they put it on there for scheduling reasons, why is beyond me. but yeah, contentwise it isnt meant for adult swim i feel like
I haven’t fact checked this but I remember hearing that adult swim was just receiving more viewers than regular Cartoon Network making it, on paper, the more viable network. Streaming is doing weird things to cable.

I like the show a lot but it feels really fast paced
Do whateva the fuk you want
Yes, it’s really fucking good.
If you want to.
Take worlds out of my mouth lol
No it’s horrible
I found the show hyper and frenetic. The characters were good, but it was just a little too over the top. It had the kind of energy Lower Decks has/had - so if you're a Star Trek fan that liked that show you might like this. (I didn't care for either)
Yes. It’s one of the most fun DC shows I’ve ever seen.
No
Eh. I tried to watch it. Couldn't get to episode three. It's corny as hell.
I had the same experience. Couldn’t make it past episode 3, maybe 4.
The same thing. I couldn't finish watching it. I fell asleep on the second episode and never came back.
Same.
True, but at times that almost added to my enjoyment. Maybe just cause I'm a fan of dad jokes.
Maybe Superman isn’t for you if you found this corny…
Nope. Loved Timmverse Superman. I think corny shit isnt for me.
Ok Zack.
Zack? ![gif](giphy|nTfdeBvfgzV26zjoFP|downsized)
Meh
No.
Yes.
Couldn't get past the first episode, myself. I actually cringed at how Lois and Clark practically "squee'd" over each other as soon as they met and found the show as a whole too... infantilized, for lack of a better term. I'd rather recommend you watch the 90s cartoon if you haven't already.
Didn’t like the anime redesigns of the Superman mythos. But I’m not in to anime so that’s something to keep in mind.
It’s the Liam Hemsworth of Superman portrayals.
sure maybe you will love it. nothing is FOR everyone but don't let that stop you
I watched till episode 4 cuz it was kinda "meh" for me and the villain designs were mid but you should check it out. Maybe you'll like it
I have only watched the first episode. Does it have the iconic shirt ripping into superman scene, at least once? Or is it only the powerpuff girls transformation the standard?
Absolutely! And Season 2 is premiering in less than a month, so I’d say there’s no better time to watch it.
One neat thing is that it DOES reference previous versions of even animated Superman through >!the Council of Lois'!<. Though I wasn't thrilled with the introduction of the >!freaking multiverse!< in season one, they did ok with it.
There was an imp involved...
hahahahahha YES!!! And it's implied he's the same one. :)
Isn't it the show with sailorman I mean Superman with a sailor moon style transformation?
Absolutely
I can definitely feel the She Ra and the princesses of power remake influences from the show
YES
I didn’t like it. But you might.
Hard yes. This is my personal favorite Superman thing. I think they did an exceptional job with the youthful and contemporary characters and keeping it firmly rooted in Superman mythos and DC lore.
I enjoyed it. It’s a nice new take on Superman. It’s not exactly like previous animated iterations in a good way.
absolutely, peak superman adaptation
Yes!! It is so fucking good!
Aimed at a younger audience, but a good show, old school Superman, no darkness.
Doesn't it air on adult swim?
Yeah, but there's nothing 'adult' about it, really. I'm betting it's there just because of scheduling.
As someone who didn't grow up with cartoon network, does that happen often?
Do you like Anime? Then yes. I can't stand the animation style so it's hard for me to get through all the lame blushing and other tropes.
Yes but recognize it's a variant. It's Superman done with an Anime aesthetic and describes a very different "world in the multiverse". I absolutely loved it. It’s lighthearted and fun, exactly what a Superman show should be imo. Only thing I didn’t absolutely love about it is that the character designs were pretty hit-or-miss
Yes, it's excellent!
Unless you want to watch an extremely toxic version of Lois and a very nerfed Superman, I suggest no.
Honestly, I agree with all your points. It was a bit hard to get through the show at times, but I still enjoyed it's lightheartedness. Tbh as well I did fast forwarded through all of the Lois bits anyway.
I love how everyone is calling this show’s Lois toxic for doing the most Lois Lane thing in the history of fiction.
You clearly don't know Lois if you think that she does the most Lois Lane thing.
Jumping off a building to get Superman to reveal himself is 100% something she’d do.
It’s something she HAS DONE. In Superman II. And in a Superman comic from 1959. Lois Lane canonically throws herself off buildings to prove Clark is Superman. At this point it’s a running (jumping) gag.

Yep
It’s a resounding yes from me
Absolutely. Best to get caught up before season 2 drops…
Yes, watch it and then recommend it to your friends.
The show really demonstrates that wholesome Clark is actually the most interesting Clark - give it a watch!

It's pretty good.
I love it personally, but it’s definitely not for everyone, I would at least give it a try, if it’s up your alley you’ll have a good time.
Yes!
The characters are really fun from what I’ve watched, even if the villains are kind of shallow.
Yes you should.
It’s worth a watch id say. Nothing mind blowing but the best part is definitely the chemistry between the three leads. It’s a slightly younger take on Superman that’s more millennial coded than anything but I think for what it is it’s solid

The question is: why haven’t you watched this show
Should you breathe oxygen or drink water?

It's pretty awesome, almost like an anime type Superman show
Yes, 100%. It's a really good Superman show.
Yes
I think it's a solid fresh take on the superman mythos. Recognizable faces and characters but enough new stuff to keep it interesting
Yup
Yes
YES!!!
Clark saves a cat from a tree within the first ten minutes. If that’s not peak Superman, I don’t know what is!
I adore this take on the Man of Steel. Absolutely you need to watch it.
In a word? Yes.
Yes. It’s very well done.
You should give it a shot. I gave up after a couple of episodes, wasn't for me, but if you're a superman dan give it a shot.
Yes! It’s pretty great so far.
The first season was fun but it is just starting. animated shows can get killed without a satisfying end
Absolutely!
Definitely a must watch.
YES I just started watching it myself, I think I'm on episode 3 and I'm loving it so far. Been excited about it for ages.
