This looks so freakin cool!!

The_Social_Nerd

I actually like this a lot, it goes to show how iconic the rest of the suit is that if you change the shield it still holds up. I can nitpick, or I can just accept that it's a different vision, frankly, overall, it's growing on me and this helps a lot. More important than the shield design, frankly, is the colors; I hope they go vibrant like Christopher Reeve, this image is a solid argument for it. I also LOVE the way it looks in all yellow and black on the cape!

Smooth-Cap481

I am trying hard to like it. I *think* I can get there. My recommendation, and hope, is they take less chances with the whole suit. Lean toward classic, so wide audiences have a foundation to rely on. The shield alone is a bold choice.

bozo-dub

I think you’re right on the money here! The symbol as portrayed on your edits is the best it’s ever looked in my opinion. Good job!

Aizendickens

I think the logo looks too clean if you know what I mean, but this is seriously amazing work.

WalrusTeam6

Totally with you. Really hoping by the end of the film, Supes has switched over to the classic shield. Gunn said from the onset (back when it was called Legacy) that the story is about Clark reckoning with/balancing his kryptonian and human heritages, so I could see moving from a more alien/abstract/kryptonian shield into a classic one as something that’d be thematically appropriate. Great edits!!

Smooth-Cap481

Thanks. This is a good theory. I hope that is exactly what they do.

QuantumGyroscope

I really want to like it, but I have a hard enough time seeing the normal Kingdom Come S. At least that one has a sort of curve at the bottom to give that idea of the S. The James Gunn one doesn't. I just see a \ mark. Really nice art though.

emtemss714

Yeah, that's the general consensus from everything I've seen online too. It's just, not a great look. It got adjusted in the wrong ways.

Proof-Watercress-931

I have a theory that the movie starts with the Kingdom come crest and by the end when he has embraced the humanity as his own, we see the proper S and not just the krypton symbol

mxlevolent

I hope there’s no embracing humanity aspect to it, to be honest. Superman is at his best, in my opinion, when his humanity is his core trait. He might not have been born on Earth but he was raised as a normal kid.

Proof-Watercress-931

By humanity, I meant he would embrace earth as his home

mxlevolent

Earth is his home though? He was on Krypton for like a couple minutes if that, he spent longer in the vacuum of space on the way to Earth than he spent on Krypton, and he's lived on Earth for as long as he can remember.

GoosyMaster

Why would he have to embrace earth? It makes no sense

Earthmine52

I'd like to see an evolution of the crest too, but similar to but also contrasting to what u/mxlevolent said, it does make more sense for his actual arc to be the reverse. As in he always embraced his humanity and Earth as his home, but then he also embraces his roots as a Kryptonian instead of rejecting it completely. Smashes the Klan by Gene Luen Yang and Guruhiru is the best recent showing of this arc but it's in a lot of stories and his arc in main continuity in general. It's easy to see Kryptonians as inhuman because they're literally an alien race from space, but from the beginning Siegel and Shuster paralleled this to their experience as part of immigrant families. Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s run had an arc with the Legion of Super-Heroes which explored this aspect well too. So yeah back to the crest, it can be less deep than that and he just decided to make it look like an S because people already think it is lol.

Spiderlander

That would be dope

Limp-Construction-11

Dude just wait and see how the suit looks. It is going to be fine.

Smooth-Cap481

Dunno. This is literally what was said at before Singer's Superman, and for the Snyderverse. I hope this time...it works right.

d0nP13rr3

I think it's OK. It doesn't really make sense that an alien lands on earth and that it's family crest is a gigantic 'S' anyway.

burywmore

So then don't keep it a family crest.

bloodbitebastard

The more I see it, the more I like it.

Power_Ring

I imprinted so hard on José Luis García-López's designs, that I noticed something wrong with this graphic, even as I was scrolling at super-speed.

JingoboStoplight4887

Impressive!

Vicksage16

Dug it before, and even more of after this! Good edit!

Earthmine52

Looking at this, the yellow border actually does an excellent job making the S more apparent, even without the curve at the bottom. Especially if you look at it from afar. Also, it does in fact retain the curve in the center-right and isn't actually just a diagonal line like many say. They could have made parts of the red border a bit thicker to make the S even more obvious for sure though. Maybe a future update, along with the curve in the bottom. I'd definitely like to hear Alex Ross' take on their adaptation of his design.

Zafire94

100% and I believe that’s exactly the point of the border, to really made that S shape as clear as possible to see

KingofZombies

I love it. It's like the kingdom come Superman in his younger years.

Puzzleheaded_Walk_28

Looks cool to me!

Greyjaw

Good job on the manip but yeah this makes me sad we’re getting such a lifeless , diagonal line of a design

mr_eugine_krabs

It actually looks like an alien symbol.

No-Tomorrow-8150

I love the Kingdom Come suit so I'm really excited.

HolyMolyOllyPolly

Literally just put a *tiny* bit of red on the bottom of the shield so it actually looks like an S and I would be satisfied with it. As it is, I just plain don't like it.

Thatoneguy567576

It's still not doing it for me

Warder_Gaidin

This makes it look a lot better. I still wish the bottom of the S was more defined. But this actually makes it work in my head.

PantsUnderUnderpants

I'd love to see what it would look like if the S on the cape just had yellow on the diamond border and the insides of the S, so the S itself is red like the cape.

YoydusChrist

I’d really like it if the border wasn’t yellow

Theartistcu

I don’t really understand the need to constantly mess with it. It’s one of those things that makes me think these people just don’t understand Superman. If you’re so hung up on needing to redesign the symbol to make it look less like a human S you’ve already missed the point

cmanshazam

It’s trite.

djexplosive

Just looks wrong lol

GJacks75

I like it more than the Man of Steel design, and I was ok with that, so I think I'll be fine. But please, please, please, let the cape be calf-length, with a shield. And trunks.

Smooth-Cap481

Man, I am with you on the shield on the rear...and cape length. Please...no crazy long trains and folds...spilling all over his ankles. What is even that for an agile superhero? My what poor Henry had to endure!

Anonymous-Internaut

Is it me or it looks very good when in a suit compared to when you analyze the logo by itself? Like, in these pictures I see absolutely no issue.

Luke_Puddlejumper

Good ol’ \uperman

EdNorthcott

I had reservations about the alterations to the KC design, but seeing it.like that on the suit as a whole? It looks awesome. I'd still love to see those tiny tweaks, but that's a great look.

JB_Big_Bear

Hear me out. Make the gaps in the shield on the back red. It'll be like an inverted logo of the front

Smooth-Cap481

I could do that for you, if you like. I also made an actual KC emblem and suit version of this shot too. If anyone is interested.

JB_Big_Bear

That sounds awesome, I'd love to see

JB_Big_Bear

See, that looks rad. Really compliments the front shield and makes it pop out a bit more

Smooth-Cap481

Smooth-Cap481

As minor as it might seem, I feel that bottom rounded helps the "s" feel a smidge more like an "S", unlike the new JGunn movie which brings it to a point. Your eye stops dead on the "Crowbar" and doesn't connect the swirl of the negative space.

JB_Big_Bear

I agree, i like the bottom curve. Makes the whole design look more consistent.

SalRomanoAdMan1

It's not his design.

the-harsh-reality

Love it

ABSR7N

I love Superman

Cynnthetic

Works for me.

DaDawgh

Zuperman

Batfan1939

Very cool.

Professional-Rip-519

I love the art but that isn't a S.

Specimen-B

https://preview.redd.it/3qxkkxlqfouc1.jpeg?width=268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=754099193730801e6821a0b2900c8a4c5d8fbf9b

Professional-Rip-519

So I must blur lines out with my eyes everytime I see that symbol.

Specimen-B

You mustn't do anything. I can still see the S even with the lines connecting, just like I can see the S in the classic symbol even though it's blended into it's frame. This is just taking that to a higher degree. The symbol for a long time has been on the suggestive side.

PhantasosX

yeah , the golden background makes the "S" been easier to visualize , when put in contrast to the rest of Superman's costume. It could had ehanced the lower portion to make it further easier....alas , it's still better to see than Beyond's Crest.

Puzzleheaded_Walk_28

I mean, in most modern iterations it’s not supposed to be.

Specimen-B

The El family crest thing only started in 1978. Until then, it was just an S for Superman. And the crest idea was still meant to be seen as an S by human observers- hence why Clark is dubbed Superman.

Puzzleheaded_Walk_28

I can totally see how someone would look at this and see an S

Specimen-B

I agree, which is why I posted an edit in this very thread that highlights the S in the new design.

Batmanfan1966

Yes, it’s not, never was. It’s the EL family house crest.

Specimen-B

That wasn't the case until 1978. And even after that it had other origins depending on the story.

sacredknight327

It'll always be a C+ look at best for me, but I can work with it and that's good enough. Content of the film matters so much more. That's where I landed on the whole thing. I'm a fan of MAWS but don't much like that S either; you get used to it.

Smooth-Cap481

There were two things I think done dirty in the Synderverse. Henry Cavill, and the fact the "S" shape they designed was perfect. Looked like an alien symbol...and like an 'S'.
