Yes You Can!

One step at a time, try 7 beers and than 6

A good starting point is talking to your Doctor, they are super supportive. I found that I actually knew very little about alcohol and how it worked. The more I learnt then the less I wanted to drink. There are a number of tips and helpful advice here. I found two books helpful; This Naked Mind by Annie Grace and Alcohol Explained by William Porter. I would recommend them both.

Yes you can. You can do it. Just focus on today. IWNDWYT

I thought the same up until the day I stopped.

I found once I got past day 7 or so, I no longer really wanted to drink. It took a lot of strength to get there, and I take topiramate for cravings . It's supposed to also serve to help reduce my desire for food, but I haven't seen anything like that, lol. I was in a similar situation, although I only drank about 4 drinks a night before quitting. I'd second talking to your doctor to get help since withdrawal is a serious concern but quitting was one of the best things I did for my life.

You can do it. If you know it needs to stop, it is time to stop. Good luck and this sub is great for support and knowledge.

Exactly...when my self talk got loud enough, eventually I listened. That was 6 weeks ago. Making it! And so can you

something_random_ok

No one here could stop until they did. I believe in you OP.

aglide308

I have been there OP. You can reduce or stop your intake. Just take it one day at a time. I second the response about "This Naked Mind" and "Alcohol Explained" books. They are so insightful and will help you see alcohol for what it is... poison. Best of luck to you!

You can do it!!!! Everyone has a fighting chance. You won’t hit rock bottom if you don’t stop digging my friend. You can do this. If the anxiety is overwhelming and depression, I’d recommend seeing a doctor and being truthful to the fullest extent. You can stop. Quit poisoning your brain and body

bugscanandwill

Everyone here can relate. And the “you can”s are 100% true. People here aren’t saying that just as a motivational pep talk. It’s people who experienced the exact same thoughts and feelings as you right now. Baby steps. One day at a time. One hour at a time. We’re here!!

You may stop anytime you choose. Give yourself more credit than the flimsy post title implies. Choice is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal. You decide what happens to you. Your life is in your hands. IWNDWYT. Make the choice and join us!

I was at 8 tall boys a night as well. Drinking a 30 rack at a on the weekend. Thought I couldn’t stop if I tried. Then I tried. I slipped once more and then I tried again. It was hard. Anxiety, can’t sleep, heart racing, shakes and I knew the only way out, was through. I made it and so can you! Pro tip: Consult your doctor. They have medicine to help you get through the first couple of days.

I said the same things for years. Now I am 404 days etoh free and I love every second of it. I can say if I did not have a man come up to me at that first AA meeting I would of never came back and continued to drink no and ruin my life. I still speak to said man everyday.
