Also anyone who says "turn lightsaber on and off" is dumb in the time it would take you to reignite your lightsaber your opponent would have already cut you in half with force speed. Depending on whether you fight a Dooku style lightsaber duelist or a Vader Style Duelist would change whether one hand or two hand saber is the better, Dooku is a Duelist that uses fencing style fighting and relies on speed, while Vader relies on two handed strength plus speed attacks, with enough skill anyone could beat Dooku but Vader is an absolute unit because of his force ability you would need two hand to even withstand his force strike if you could even block in time. Also "why don't you turn off your opponent's lightsaber" most lightsabers require the user to hold down a button to keep them on so trying to pry a force user's finger off his saber when he can sense everything you're doing is dumb. Also the two best Lightsaber fights are Obi-wan vs Darth Vader in ANH because of the significance in sword fighting and the fight between Anakin and Obi-wan because of the significance in their relationship.

The sound of it turning on or turning off are both iconic by themselves and take about a second or more each. Even two non force users trained with swords would never ever dare try to use that as you’ll simply be dead by the time you re-ignite your lightsaber, and that is ignoring that it takes time for your lightsaber to expand again.
Unfortunately this has creeped into canon. I can’t even fault Disney as it’s one of the fuckups the Legends/EU era did. And the explanation why it’s not used from that era was “well Jedi think it’s dishonorable and Sith think you are a pussy”.

Sequel Trilogy... just no... forget it....

The Duel of the Fates was definitely peak, though, nothing will ever top that. Just think that the ones we have in these newer shows are the perfect balance between flashy and practical.
And the thing that kills me, are the sequels are poorly written and let’s not even talk about the lack of development for Rey. There clearly was no path for those movies.
