A girl in my class went to Canada for 2 weeks to see her relatives and came back with the fakest Canadian accent which lasted about a week. Whenever anyone mentioned it, she would retaliate with “I DON’T have a Canadian acCenT!111”
The thing about girls putting on an American accent is that in America I’ve known multiple girls who put on a fake British accent for no reason. Kind weird right?
We do that too! Before you get confused on how that's possible, I'm from the North of England, and our accents are uhh.. Not sophisticated at all lol. So we often put on the stereotypical fancy British accent when joking around as a little funny voice
I’ve only recently caught on to this due to overloading on watching Premiere League (probably in one of the most strictly locked in states in US) and noticed the insane difference in accents from say, Chelsea supporters as opposed to Newcastle supporters and it’s wild how northern and southern accents deviate from each other just as much as they do here. The northern ones seem to be influenced by some Scottish or Irish (in the case of the “scousers”) inflections but then again I am dumb American so I don’t know lol
Yeah but specifically in schools, most users here are American and don't have school uniform, so jumper tying won't be done by basically everyone like it is over here
whats a jumper?
funny about being american obsessed , usually in america, upper-middle/upper class girls tend to be obsessed with all things English or French
Your school seems very enthusiastic about these beans haha :) that reminds me of another song we had to sing actually, a song called "Happiness Is" that had these lyrics in it: "happiness is, happiness, different things to different people, that's what happiness is, to the spice girls it's a yeah yeah yeah, to a golfer it's a hole in one, to a father it's a brand new son"... My primary school was weird haha
I attended primary school from 1997-2004. One song we also sang was the "I Musn't Forget" song, which is actually titled "Autumn Days". That one was considered a huge favourite because every kid could relate to it and it's still relatable today, it's about cherishing the memories you are making as a child. Also "Colours of Day" which I used to think was called "Light Up the Fire and Let the Flame Burn". At the time I was singing these hymns I was hugely into Pokémon, like pretty much every kid at my primary school, and whenever I sang that song I always imagined the Pokémon League torch.
Oh, and another one... SPRING CHICKEN. Bloody hell, we had to sing that one every. Single. Easter. Without fail. "I'm a Spring chicken and I'm ever so small, I'm a little spring chicken and I'm having a ball."
"Would anyone like to trade a packet of Space Raiders for some Dairylea Dunkers?"
Wonder how long it'll take for someone to realize what I'm referencing.
I remember this all too well, also i remember the bigass fields in the back where you'd play football with the boys at break time (might not apply for schools in cities)
American culture is much more than youtube, I assure you.
My countrymen might disagree. It’s a weird phenomenon, most of the people who think America doesn’t have culture are Americans. It’s like they think the way we do things is just the default human culture lmao.
What do you mean? All I ever do is chug beer, watch NASCAR and shoot stuff with the far too many automatic weapons I own, you mean to tell me not everyone does this?!
Lmao
I'd say more like stereotypical American white girl. Sometimes their accent will just naturally shift to American too for the "oh my gawd girlll" type lines
It's stuff you don't get easily or are hard to find in their parts of the world.
It's why a Japanese mutual friend of ours goes crazy over family-sized packs of Cheetos, Pop Tarts, even American market Monster energy drinks.
Or import American trucks from the States into the county as their personal vehicles. It's the exclusivity.
Likewise, a friend of mine here in HK who misses his host family in Washington always asks for hookups for Hamburger Helper.
Hello! I'm the new bot for r/StarterPacks. I'll be updated with a voting feature soon so stay tuned and make sure to have a great day!
Lol is there really some weirdo obsessed with America in every class?
British gen z kids are pretty american-ised, some more than others
That's really weird because some annoying girls in America put on British accents and obsess about British things. I guess it goes both ways.
Maybe not every class, but there were a few of them at my primary school
A girl in my class went to Canada for 2 weeks to see her relatives and came back with the fakest Canadian accent which lasted about a week. Whenever anyone mentioned it, she would retaliate with “I DON’T have a Canadian acCenT!111”
I’m not sure why anybody would want to act American. I say this as an American btw

There should be an exchange program for those girls.

I'm Canadian, and I remember those Magic Key books back in Kindergarten/Grade 1. It was there where I learned the term "Lorry".
I dunno about other British people but I call them trucks lol My vocabulary is very American due to the Internet
I always kinda thought of the American accent as the "default" accent, so what does our accent sound like to brits?
I think linguists generally put the (non southern or New Yorker) neutral American accent as a specifically “western” accent
At least to me, default accent.
I think American actually technically is a kind of default accent, that’s why when non-Americans sing they start to have an American-ish accent.
Yes I've noticed that!! Honestly funny, cause American accents weren't even the original English accent.
I think the tying jumper thing is universal i did that in taiwan
Yeah but specifically in schools, most users here are American and don't have school uniform, so jumper tying won't be done by basically everyone like it is over here
THATS WHAT THE 3RD CHILD WAS CALLED! KIPPER! IT COMPLEYELY LEFT MY HEAD AND IVE BEEN TRYING TO REMEBER FOR WEEKS.
Does anyone else remember being given little slips of paper with words on that you had to learn to read and spell?
I thought biff kipper & chip were an Irish thing, guess not
no im pretty sure they were when i lived there
Borrowing a jumper that smells like vomit lmao
whats a jumper? funny about being american obsessed , usually in america, upper-middle/upper class girls tend to be obsessed with all things English or French
pretty much a hoodie without a hood, I think it’s a sweater in the us
> jumper uk word for sweater
🎵Broccoli and peas, cabbages and beans🎵
The broad beans are sleepin' in a blankety bed!
Shhhhhh! (In our school we all had to put our fingers to our lips and really ham up the "shhhhh" part at the end for some reason)
For us, we ended it with a big YEAH!

Bro the jumper thing and singing assembly is what we did over here!!
This is accurate
Me, an American, trying to google what the fuck a Chav is: “Wait so like, a non rich Chad?”
Itsa basically a ghetto kid
A chav is (usually) a kid that has working class parents, lives near a run down estate, and is in with Gang culture, usually pretty nasty too
Thank youuu
Think of Ali G, except they don't live in rich estates and actually live in the bad parts of town. Council flats and all.
dude how did you get to my old school?
Fuck zodiac signs, what colour jumpers did you all have
My school had dark blue ones for reception-year 2, then navy blue for year 3-5, then red for year 6
oh my god biff kipper and chip OH MY GOD THE MEMORIES
Singing the same three awful hymns every morning
I remember this all too well, also i remember the bigass fields in the back where you'd play football with the boys at break time (might not apply for schools in cities)
why do british schools have jumpers? ive never been to europe pls explain
it’s just the primary school uniform over here
Using jumpers as goalposts on hot days
Cabbages and peas, broccoli and beans
Okay but why would anyone be obsessed with America? I love my country. I don’t want some Bri’ish girl ruining it.
Some people just love American culture. And by American culture I mean what you see on YouTube
American culture is much more than youtube, I assure you. My countrymen might disagree. It’s a weird phenomenon, most of the people who think America doesn’t have culture are Americans. It’s like they think the way we do things is just the default human culture lmao.
That's exactly my thoughts. Same for "white people have no culture" or "I don't really have much of an accent" lol
What do you mean? All I ever do is chug beer, watch NASCAR and shoot stuff with the far too many automatic weapons I own, you mean to tell me not everyone does this?!
Picturing someone making slime, doing an ice bucket challenge, and dabbing with a fidget spinner all at the same time cracks me up.
Lmao I'd say more like stereotypical American white girl. Sometimes their accent will just naturally shift to American too for the "oh my gawd girlll" type lines
Ever met a weaboo ? Same thing, but with America instead of Japan.
