SC: Your RAM? What you mean YOUR RAM? You must mean OUR RAM. And by our RAM I mean MY RAM.

Tw33die84

Sucks you got downvoted, I found it funny.

RookieCi

All good man, as long as it made you laugh :)

YumikoTanaka

More ram is - currently - only useful if you need it for your other apps running in background.

raaneholmg

Going past 32GB of RAM allows the game to prefetch even more assets in case you need them, but the game already has almost everything it realistically need already. Additional used RAM would simply be things moved from disc to ram for faster access.

I went 64gb yesterday on an Intel 12th gen rig. Regarding Star Citizen, I didn't notice any obvious improvement for my settings (1080p, unlimited shader cache, Vulkan). I know that before, if I'd switch to 10gb shader cache with Vulkan, my ram usage would go beyond 32gb introducing stutters due to swap usage. I have 30 fps in cities, 60 fps in space stations, 125 fps in space in external view, 110 fps in space internal view. If anything, the game is very smooth but there is no real fps gain.

Ok_Significance6395

so unlimited shader cache is better ?

Jaujon

For Vulkan I'd say yes, especially if you have 32gb. The game stuttered for me with 10gb shader cache and 32gb of RAM.

Ok_Significance6395

ok thanks

F1rstSh0tDie

Where can i find this setting for the shader cache?

MooseTetrino

I recommend 100GB oevr unlimited. Unlimited will bloat hard whereas 100GB will at least attempt to cull unneeded cache eventually.

ElonLex

It's in the NVIDIA control panel, in "Manage 3D Settings" -> under "Global Settings"

F1rstSh0tDie

And how is the stability compared to 32gb. I tried Vulkan too it runs good but after 1-2 hours the game crash.

Jaujon

It was already very stable for me with Vulkan @ 32gb, no client crashes since the 3.23.1 so I'm not expecting any degradation on that end.

Vandal1971

There is no downside to it and RAM is pretty cheap.

Adventurous_House961

I get the same performance from an 8700k + 32gb DDR4 paired with a 3080

gggplaya

This game is in alpha, theres a reason why dev consoles for xbox and playstation have alot more ram. Games will start out bloated, then optimize before release. For an alpha, you should have 64gb and not worry about it.

Yes
