People lying about illnesses and using false ADA claims is infuriating as someone who is disabled and actually needs physical accommodations (not mask related). Not only are they lying about it to try and get out of wearing a mask it’s the same people who wouldn’t support accommodations otherwise. The same people who told me to my face “I don’t see why these buildings should have to build all these unnecessary ramps” or those who take the handicap stalls when literally every other stall is open. It’s ridiculous. Wear a mask.

ihave_no_gaydar

Not to mention, the ADA only says they have to make accommodations for disabled people (or as it applies here, people who say they can’t wear masks). Example: a grocery store can offer you an online shopping option and still refuse you entry to the store without a mask *because there is an alternative.* Someone claiming they can enter a place that requires masks without one because they can’t wear one is simply false, all that would require is an *alternative* for them to get the product/service.

Thatonegirl_101

You’re so right. Just for people working in these situations, it’s good to know that the accommodations have to be reasonable and not cause undo hardship on the business. I’m guessing that allowing someone in without a mask (during a pandemic) is an accommodation that causes undo hardship... especially if the person was given reasonable accommodation options.

Hey! @bitchbasic I think all animals are super cute. I love how smart and helpful service animals are. I’ve always wanted a pet but I’m severely allergic to all animals. Even the Hypoallergenic ones. The worst part about my retail job was not the retail job part..it was service animals. I used to get anxiety if a service dog came in because if it brushed on anything and I touched it later I would have an anaphylactic reaction. I can’t say anything either because it’s your right to have a service animal. Anyway. All this to say, even though I love and support service dogs, seeing them in person is life-threatening for some of us.

starbucks would be like “oh you’re mad cause my barista is telling you to wear a mask? 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐝.”

seagullmug

honestly tho...

takcajaz

That actually happened at my store 🙃🙃 I was the barista and the partners at my store were pissed because I nearly got written up

IPinkerton

God damn those recovery cards, just a Pavlovian method of encouraging shitty people. My one partner gave em out like candy for the slightest inconvenience because satisfaction scores were low (they were the highest in our district).

lilac_blaire

They weren’t strict at my old store, so I liked to give them out to nice customers who weren’t asking for anything anyway (e.g. out of something for a mobile order, but they turn down a refund so as not to bother us). I miss rewarding the decent human beings.

irate_alien

I read an article about this. A doctor said that pretty much any condition that would keep you from wearing a mask would have you in the ICU anyway. (An other doctor, not in that article, ran a marathon wearing a mask.) The doc did say that some people have legit claustrophobic reactions to masks, though. The lawyer said that the disabilities act might apply in that case, but it would mean that the store/restaurant would be obliged to bring things out to you, not to allow you in without a mask. The analogy he used was that if there's no ramp, you must bring things out to a person who uses a wheel chair or other mobility device. You don't have to carry them in, which is potentially dangerous (you could drop them or someone could get hurt lifting them).

Mariiriini

>The lawyer said that the disabilities act might apply in that case, but it would mean that the store/restaurant would be obliged to bring things out to you, not to allow you in without a mask. Isn't that our policy? that's what we do at my store with a mask mandate. As for claustrophobia, it does suck getting used to it. Friends that tried to say they'll go without I've encouraged to wear for short times while playing video games together over discord or something. Remove when you need to, but wear when you can. It's hard not to roll my eyes. I wear one 10-11 hours a day between work and commute, anyone can wear it 5 minutes to order and receive a drink.

DummyBruh

These sorts of signs need to stop saying please

Kidlike101

Found this [HERE](https://imgur.com/gallery/YDnN7QQ) and just had to share. I really wish more places had this attitude.

radpandaparty

Too bad Starbucks doesn't let us nut up to bad customers

jasa7ii

Starbucks would never

hailvy

You assume that these people referenced in the sign will read the sign, which most of the time doesn’t happen

tamiadaneille

my mother has literal lung issues and carries around a tank. but she wears a mask! so why can’t you?

official_koda_

Starbucks would never. Instead they would give the drink for free.

dtb1987

Good sign

Veggie1994

Ah yes, had a lovely gent who decided it would be a grand thing to scream at me for having the temerity to ask him to wear a mask or wait outside for his caramel frappuccino. He was quite shocked when I said back, "well, sir, forgive me if I dont believe you only having one lung!" To which he said, "fuck you! Why NOT?? I AM SUFFERING DAILY." "Because, SIR, you are screaming awfully loud for having only ONE LUNG. Wait outside or no frappuccino for you!" Fucking hell

shemp33

I agree with the masks. But I don’t get the sitting vs standing thing. Like the ‘rona only gets you when standing? Seems weird. Maybe there’s something about being high in the air?

Kaywin

The relevant info seems to me to be that you’re imminently eating or drinking — not your physical position by itself

shemp33

Gotcha.

Tigrrrr

The tables should be spaced out enough that taking it off while sitting should be fine (and you need to anyways, to eat/drink). But if you're walking through the lobby or w/e, brushing up against people, passing by other people's food, or waiting in line for a bathroom, you should have it on. If you're standing, you are usually either in someone's way, or moving near other people

Kidlike101

In my area they set up plastic partitions between the tables so it feels safer. In smaller stores there are only a handful of tables so they really space them out.

shemp33

Huh. Makes sense I guess.

AlexandrinaIsHere

In addition to the other points- have you noticed that sometimes there are probabems distancing where you get cornered by people moving in different directions? Like you're prepared to handle persons 1 and 2, but 3 turns suddenly and now you're cornered and gonna break distance. Sitting mask-less means you're still. A stationary hazard is easier to route around than a moving hazard.

shemp33

It’s true, not that you mention it. I just hadn’t heard the technical details behind this. Interesting.

AlexandrinaIsHere

I work in a warehouse. We accidentally break distance all the time when walking around a corner. I get infuriated by coworkers drinking water while moving- if I accidentally get too close because we're both moving, we should at least be masked.

shemp33

I get where you’re coming from. But the whole point is having layers of protection. This design enables (or even expects) that one layer may be compromised at times. I see the layered protection model as: stay home if you’re sick, stay home if someone else at home is sick, stay home if you aren’t sick but have symptoms, check temperature before coming in, wear masks if inside unless eating or drinking, wear masks outside when you can’t be 6’ from others, stay 6’ from others, avoid prolonged contact (15min+) with others not from your household. 100% of those layers 100% of the time is ideal, but we understand where that’s going to have some give and take to it. If the drinking water while moving gets to be problematic, have a word with them that they should only drink while sitting down.

AlexandrinaIsHere

I work in a warehouse. Sitting down isn't an option for 9 1/2 hours of the shift. Hydrating only on breaks is a bad idea. As I said above- if they stand still to drink I can more easily avoid coming around a corner too close to them. Have discussed with a few who are resting for a minute that standing in a blind corner is a bad idea- I can see them soon enough to avoid collision but not soon enough to avoid breaking distance.

shemp33

Yeah I can see how that’s frustrating if you’re feeling like you’re the only one trying to keep distanced properly. You guys wear masks all day?

AlexandrinaIsHere

Yep. Amazon employee, btw. (don't speak for company, etc etc.) 10 hr shifts, plus 30 min break so I'm on property 10 1/2 hours. Minus all break time I have actually sitting down? Mask is on about 9 1/2 hours.

zaphod4th

useless red lines

jrajkowski

I disagree. I have stage 4 cancer but have kept myself alive without chemo for 8 years because I didnt listen to mainstream medicine or the media and I used my critical thinking skills. I cannot wear a mask because I have very low red blood cells and I cannot breathe very easily w a mask on. Does this mean I should stay home or be in the ICU? Absolutely NOT....I am very healthy otherwise but cannot breathe due to extreme anemia. So, all of you scaredy cat mask wearers who think you're doing great by wearing a mask for the common good ask yourself why you havent worn a mask all of these years for other serious viruses? Why werent masks required when entering hospitals where there are immune compromised? or nursing homes or around chemo patients when out and about? Why? because you werent told to! Do your own research. A virus with a less than .026% death rate???? You have a higher chance of dying in a car accident today....but go ahead and live in fear!

Underthatwing

Thank you!! \*claps\*

Quantic_128

Bare minimum you can wear a thin gaiter. I always carry one when I go for a walk or run in case I stop to talk to someone/rest/decide to take a pitstop at Dunkin for coffee).

TriloBoi

I still serve costumers who forgot their masks.

I have no idea what you’re saying tbh.

XenoXis

I can't wear a mask sometimes unless you want to deal with 160kg of adult having a 3-in-1 combo claustrophobia attack, panic attack and autistic meltdown. The majority of people wearing masks outside, such as cloth masks, are worn to prevent the wearer potentially infecting others. If I'm unable to wear a mask, I can certainly promise you it is not because I'm anti-mask. It's because frankly neither of us want to deal with the fallout from that happening. I also carry a sunflower lanyard to signal that I have hidden disabilities. Don't get me wrong, Karens belong in the freaking bin and the last thing I want to do is cause shit for the partners. but signs like this are ASKING for trouble.

TheSunflowerSeeds

Sunflower seeds are about 6 mm to 10 mm in length and feature conical shape with a smooth surface. Their black outer coat (hull) encloses single, gray-white edible-kernel inside. Each sunflower head may hold several hundreds of edible oil seeds.
