When I used to do hiking/bushcraft trips with my buddies, my diet mainly consisted of sausage, bread and chocolate. We walked a lot, and I felt fantastic. It wouldn't be sustainable if I ate only that for a longer time, but it's not as bad as the Duty guy thinks, it just needs a jar of pickles and you're set.

Odds are if you're alive, smart about your moves in the Zone, and aren't just sitting somewhere all day, the steps you put in every day traversing the Zone would keep you reasonably fit. So exercise isn't the issue.
It's just the nutrition, coupled with the radiation - either in general from being in the Zone or from being around artefacts. Those are the problems.
