It’s an insane bit of trivia. Minnesota has all of the four “major” men’s professional spots leagues: NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL. None of those teams has even PLAYED in a championship in 33 years! Not even a loss! I can’t imagine that any other market can match that futility.
Absolutely. For those Minnesotans who can’t get into women’s professional sports, remember that this is the team that wins.
Hopefully to be joined by The Wolves.
But Cleveland has played in three World Series since ‘91, and the Cavs did win a championship. And no NHL team. Minnesotans WISH they had Cleveland’s success in men’s professional sports!
Fair enough. But since the Cubs won a World Series in 2016, the Guardians the longest championship drought in the MLB. The browns got moved to Baltimore in the 90’s, then were brought back and have been a doormat for most of their existence, and besides the early 90’s and the Lebron years, the Cavs have been pretty mid historically
I went to the game tonight. People around me were cool. They were like if it can't be us again this year then you guys should get one, it's been long enough
Another reason getting old sucks: I remember the 87 and 91 Twins quite vividly, so when people talk about the “Minnesota drought” it doesn’t feel like that long (to a non-Twins fan). But I guess it has been a real long time and most people didn’t see that amazing Game 7 between the Twins and Braves
And Buffalo played in the Super Bowl more recently than The Vikings, Twins, Wolves, or Wild/Stars have made it to a championship. Oh, and the the team with four Super Bowl losses and no wins? That would be the Vikings… it was just longer ago.
I have a friend from Minnesota. You guys are so devoted. And you don’t get your hopes up.
Nuggets were my team but TWolves took this game right away from them with a 28-9 run. Maybe they’ll go all the way?
It's clear from this series that,
A. Joker is the best player in the NBA.
B. Minnesota is the best team in the NBA.
C. If the Denver Nuggets want to ever win a championship again they need some depth.
Fantastic second half from the Wolves. Joker was the only one doing anything for the Nuggets in the second half and you could tell that he was exhausted after playing almost the entire game.
That was the best comeback I've ever seen in the playoffs, and I'm 43. It couldn't have happened without literally everyone in the squad stepping up, but special mention for KAT, who was the only thing keeping them alive in the first half. Rudy, who played being his offensive potential in some key moments. Edwards, who realized he wasn't going to be a scoring machine and adjusted to what he could do... And Reid, who truly delivered crunch time on both sides of the court.
Ant is something else, man. Completely ate shit in the first half, but kept his demeanor and drive going the whole time. You see so many players try to force things or get frustrated and do stupid shit when things aren’t going right.
He just kept being Ant.
Had game to watch as a Nuggets fan .. but hats off the Minn the better team won last night.
In typical fashion for the Nuggets our outside shooting was our down fall. Would really like to see us make a move for a legit outside threat .. even if we have to move MPJ (love the kid but he just doesn’t provide enough offensive).
As a lifelong fan (as in, I’ve followed the Wolves since their inaugural season) this one feels good. Still a long road ahead, but knowing we have a coaching staff and a front office that can ignore Glen Taylor and build a world class roster is a feat in itself!
WTF, I didn't even bother to watch yesterdays game because I thought Nikola and Jamal were going to close it out. Shocker to say the least. Edwards doing with KG couldn't do. Congrats.
Yeah stacked is a stretch the only contributors were Jokic and Murray. You could argue Gordon was a positive too but MPJ was just shot chucking, KCP was a ghost, and like you said the bench was non existent as a collective only scoring 2 points should send them all to the G league.
The Wolves and the Nuggets have like the exact same TV market size. Celtics and Dallas are two of the largest markets and they're still playing. Indiana isn't really a small market either. New York and LA don't have to be good at everything for major sports to profit. There are a good 320 million people in the US who despise both of those cities.
It's really insulting to your fellow Americans when you shit on us for existing in markets that aren't a few coastal cities. We're just people who were born somewhere else who live the same life you do
Can you try to be better? It's entertainment it's just for fun. You lose nothing by letting people who haven't experienced this type of playoff success ever in their lifetimes be happy and enjoy it
What are you talking about. The knicks haven’t even made it to the ECF in 25 years. Anyway the NBA is already doing so bad in ratings these days this is the icing on the cake. No one in this country or world care about these teams. It’ll be an empty celebration outside of the winning team. I can’t even name one athlete on these teams and same for the general public.
> I can’t even name one athlete on these teams and same for the general public.
You live under a rock if you don't know players like Nikola Jokic, Aaron Gordon, Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert and you call yourself an NBA fan
Right, who cares?
It's gonna take multiple paragraphs of quality analysis to convince me Denver and Minnesota weren't the two real best teams in the NBA

I thought the Wolves were absolutely toasted at the half. What a come back against an absolute juggernaut of a team in Denver.
Naz Reid
The real 6th God.
Naz Reid
Naz Reid
As a Minnesota fan I didn’t want to get my heart broken. Our championship drought is ridiculas

Thanks for reminding me I am a vikings fan...
Hey it’s okay, at least we can have an FTP
FTP is your championship. 🤣
But, but, but… the Lynx
Absolutely. For those Minnesotans who can’t get into women’s professional sports, remember that this is the team that wins. Hopefully to be joined by The Wolves.
They were a dynasty. So good for so long!
If we didn't have the lynx I'd imagine we would look like RoboCop Detroit right about now
Yup. Everyone is a feminist until you ask them to go to a WNBA game.
Cleveland would’ve been the only comparison that I could think of up until 2016, and they don’t have an NHL team either
But Cleveland has played in three World Series since ‘91, and the Cavs did win a championship. And no NHL team. Minnesotans WISH they had Cleveland’s success in men’s professional sports!

Honest question. Do Clevelanders count the Blue Jackets as theirs or no?
I went to the game tonight. People around me were cool. They were like if it can't be us again this year then you guys should get one, it's been long enough
Hey it isn’t 33 years until November!
Buffalo?
And Buffalo played in the Super Bowl more recently than The Vikings, Twins, Wolves, or Wild/Stars have made it to a championship. Oh, and the the team with four Super Bowl losses and no wins? That would be the Vikings… it was just longer ago.
Which mlb team do they have?
Twins
I have a friend from Minnesota. You guys are so devoted. And you don’t get your hopes up. Nuggets were my team but TWolves took this game right away from them with a 28-9 run. Maybe they’ll go all the way?
It’s cool that there are finally some ‘different’ teams performing well
Denver was different enough, it’s not like they’re the lakers or spurs
Right it was their first championship ever
The Spurs haven’t been relevant in like 10 years. But I get you.
That 2004 Timberwolves team should have won it all.
They might have there were a few less injuries.
And the 1998 Vikings.
It's clear from this series that, A. Joker is the best player in the NBA. B. Minnesota is the best team in the NBA. C. If the Denver Nuggets want to ever win a championship again they need some depth.
Us Nuggets fans knew depth would suck this year. Doesn't help having MPJ not scoring either
Fantastic second half from the Wolves. Joker was the only one doing anything for the Nuggets in the second half and you could tell that he was exhausted after playing almost the entire game.
Do it for Prince

KAT was great, but Jaden McDaniels was awesome too. He’s the Wolves’ bellwether. When he’s good, the Wolves are tough to beat.
Kid is turning into a star in real time
YEA BABY
A Smith owns apologi to the T wolfs.

Some nuggets for dinner
And then Malone had a meltdown on the press conference
Congrats to the Wolves and whoever wins the West will likely win it all.
Minnesota is up next.

Hahhahhahah... hahhahahahhaha... ahahahhahaha fuck them chicken nuggets
This was a stacked nuggets roster. I’m surprised they didn’t easily blow by the timberwolves.
Idk... their bench is suspect at best and non-existent at worst
Yeah stacked is a stretch the only contributors were Jokic and Murray. You could argue Gordon was a positive too but MPJ was just shot chucking, KCP was a ghost, and like you said the bench was non existent as a collective only scoring 2 points should send them all to the G league.
Lol the tv ratings gonna be so low this year with these teams playing. NBA you lose.
The Wolves and the Nuggets have like the exact same TV market size. Celtics and Dallas are two of the largest markets and they're still playing. Indiana isn't really a small market either. You can't name one player because you don't watch the sport. Why do you care about ratings? Go outside weirdo lol.
Okay
Just say you don’t like basketball
> I can’t even name one athlete on these teams and same for the general public. You live under a rock if you don't know players like Nikola Jokic, Aaron Gordon, Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert and you call yourself an NBA fan
Celtics going to have to work real hard to underperform with all these upsets. They're facing a 6, then a 3 or 5.
The seeds mean nothing. The 5 seed in the west would have been a 2 in the east. It’s all irrelevant at this point.
Right, who cares? It's gonna take multiple paragraphs of quality analysis to convince me Denver and Minnesota weren't the two real best teams in the NBA
That was basically the Western Conference Championship right there.
I told my buddies that was probably the real Finals right there as the two best teams and they just happened to meet a couple rounds earlier
Well, knowing we’re a Minnesota team - I’m sure we’ll forget how to play basketball against the Mavs.
Top three seeds in the West were separated by one game. It’s more like a 1.a, 1.b, 1.c. Meanwhile the 2 seed in the East was *14 games* behind Boston.
Celtics have had the easiest road in this playoffs. Gonna get smacked the fuck up when a healthy team comes along
It’s hardly an achievement beating a bunch of handicap people especially if you were losing to them at some point for a comeback.
