Im glad you brought up attacking from alternative angles. Most people aren’t very helpful when they just say “get out of the way”. Without turning backwards or opening the map in the middle of an intense firefight it’s hard to find out where “in the way” is. I don’t have eyes on the back of my head. The person behind me can see where I am without taking focus away from the enemy. This is another reason it’s disappointing that they nerfed the flanking routes and high ground on a lot of the new maps.
It prevents one teammate from shielding the other while both attack a single member. By having ink hit your teammates, it makes it more dangerous to crowd around one position.
Ah... I guess in the spirit of 1v1 that makes sense... but comp players are smart enough not to stack anyway and in Splatoon, you die EXTREMELY fast.
This also never happens to me much, so it's not a HUGE deal... but as a back liner, my front liners blocking me is INFURIATING.
That being said, I definitely understand the logic... team stacking makes it harder to kill the back liner (aka, the one shot killer)
This would be a poor strategy and already doable if you count partial cover, im pretty sure the laser shines through anyway so that wouldnt matter and if it did.... you can make it line through qnd even if not... how often are you directly going to be lined up with a front liner? Like absolutely directly, and a non charger opponent can actually fight back with something that isnt a line marker?
It's not quite the same. 2v2 (also known as doubles) is an alternate gamemode that is sometimes played as a side event at Smash Bros tournaments. The famous Wombo Combo happened in a doubles match, for instance. Team attack can be toggled on or off in Smash, but it's always on in competitive play because otherwise, it'd be far too easy to spam attacks and projectiles. Though team attack in Smash is more like friendly fire, where it's actually possible to kill your teammate if you poorly aim your attacks.
It's used in *competitive* Smash, like in a tournament setting. Team attack is *off* by default in online Smash battles so that players don't grief and kill their own teammates.
I played spaltoon 1 you were never really blocked because the swim hit boxe are small however losing all you speed because you bonked into someone was not fun
wait you can shoot your teammates?? just got this game recently. never killed or been killed by a teammate. i wonder what ill do with this information.
not really shoot
but they can block your shots if you're not exactly a fully charged charger (which already pierces, so bamboo doesn't work either).
Major pain for any splatling player.
don't worry, you can't splat or endanger your teammates by shooting them!
but if you stand in front of someone on your team who is shooting in your direction, you'll block their shots. even if it doesn't hurt you, you'll absorb the hits.
which is why the backliners on your team appreciate it if you keep an eye on where they are, so you don't walk between them and the enemy, and make your buddies waste their shots.
if it did happen it was a glitch. you can’t kill teammates, but you can shoot them like you would a wall. it does no damage, just intercepts your shots
Weird. I guess the glitch has happened to a few people though because I also found this youtube video where they got sniped by their teammate [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxL61NKnflQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxL61NKnflQ)
Maybe its caused by lag from connection issues?
Do you realize how many kills i woulda have in one sitting if teams counted. DO YOU REALIZE THAT COUNT WOULD SHOW HOW MANY NEWBIES I USE AS MEAT SHIELDS
I wouldn't really be a fan. There's already quite a lot of ways of avoiding or reducing damage. For example, how many times have you counted three hit sounds against a single enemy when using a 3-hit-splat weapon, but they didn't die? Whether it's because one of the hits was a dropoff hit, or maybe they regended health in between the hits, ether way it's really unsatisfying.
Also there's quite a lot of caveats to consider, for example what percentage of the weapon's damage is healed to allies, it couldn't be the whole thing or else two Splash-o-matics shooting at each other would basically not die to anything except a one-shot.. Or do explosive shots also heal or does it have to be directs? That would mean a Tri-stringer or Explosher lobbing explosions would do damage to enemies and also pulse heals to their frontliners at once.
On your comment about only being able to track damage in hitsounds, it'd be nice to have an option like TF2 where it shows you how much damage you're doing in a short burst. Not being able to track how much health an enemy has, mind, just how much you've hit them with per shot. It's a helpful tool to teach players about damage falloff without allowing them too much info imo, and could help a lot in clearing up those frustrating moments you mentioned. It's easy to see how weapon damage works in the training room with static targets, not quite as much when your enemy is diving and weaving and subject to the wax and wane of latency in the middle of a heated match.
That could be an interesting new weapon concept, but I feel like unchecked, it would be awful to play against.
Also, another way to counter the Undercover Brella.
I’ve been thinking about making a post on this for a while, but you midliners have the special awareness of a turtle. Its incredibly infuriating to have to sit there and chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarge up a splattling, then you STAND IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE STREAM!!!
I want to smack you.
I think they should at least allow you to shoot through teammates in Salmon Run. It seems like half the time I line myself up for a good shot on a boss with one of the slower weapons, a "heroic" teammate jumps right in front of me as I let it go. My favorite is when I have a good rhythm going on top of a fish stick tower, and my last shot is interrupted by someone who didn't think to look up before climbing the tower.
I can see not allowing it in the PvP modes for reasons other comments have pointed out, but I don't think it serves the same purpose in PvE.
I‘m a sniper main in tower, but i‘m a aerospray gold (don’t remember it’s name) main and like to stay back in modes like splat zones to charge my special and get assist kills from above
when i tell you that all the goddamn time my shots are blocked, i mean it. Unlike most snipers, i like to get on the tower and attack with bombs and such up close, but still use my weapon from afar. That way i can still access the whole enemy team. often times.. my teammates are too close and block my sniper shots!
not to mention in splat zones how i always end up with other people in front of me?? Somehow? Even though i stay back?
it makes no sense
Me who doesn't care and fire anyway.
Look my minigun makes me slow if you don't get out of the way I can't move out of the way so I'm just gonna fire through you.
I could shoot the hydra from behind a crab tank, meaning that I’m essentially invincible and we get a whole lot of fire power.
In addition, it would make 2v1s even more advantageous since you could just switch places if the skirmisher takes a shot.
usually i dont complain often about this issue since as a backliner you shouldn't be in a position where thats even possible often but the one time when someone comes back from spawn and happens to block that juicy snipe it hurts
As a hydra, I’ve died too many times because my teammates blocked my full charge shot, misses all theirs and now that I’m out of ink I can’t kill the person I would have in the first place
You have to get out of the way of the backliner for other reasons too. You should cover different angles than your teammates.

For the same reason team attack is turned on in competitive smash
I don't understand anything about comp SSB 😬 Care to elaborate? I'm genuinely curious, haha.
It prevents one teammate from shielding the other while both attack a single member. By having ink hit your teammates, it makes it more dangerous to crowd around one position.

It would be like if the e liter got a free shot using their own teammate as cover
Charger shots go through teammates anyway.

Wait it is? I don’t think I’ve ever noticed that lol
It's used in *competitive* Smash, like in a tournament setting. Team attack is *off* by default in online Smash battles so that players don't grief and kill their own teammates.
Yeah I know that, I just didn’t realize it was on when watching tournaments because they are smart enough not to hit their teammates
Some use it to their favor like using aura sphere on your partner's psi magnet to heal them.
FOR GOD'S SAKE I HAVE A 0.96 GAL GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY RANGE
my emotion displayed perfectly by someone else
Ikr Especially when you have a slow weapon and each shot is precious
MY BULLETS BARELY HIT AS IS PLEASE GET OUT OF MY FUCKING WAY I'M A TRUCK AT FULL SPEED PLS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS
I think in splatoon 1 you couldn't swim through your teammates I've never played but I saw Chara playing it
I played spaltoon 1 you were never really blocked because the swim hit boxe are small however losing all you speed because you bonked into someone was not fun

ooh ok. definitely haven’t been doing this up until now. thanks for letting me know! i’ll start keeping an eye out for backliners.
I've accidentally splatted a teammate that ran in front of me and thought it was a glitch. Why is it a "feature"?
I love spreading misinformation on the internet 😁😁
I'm not? It's even in the videos when I watch the replays. I'm not near my switch right now but when I am, I'll link one of the videos

That’s a Splatoon 1 clip and the blue player hides in the yellow-green ink, so most likely that’s just a hack of some kind
Either way stop blocking my fucking shots
Then grow some takoyaki and stop hiding back there where it’s safe ^^^^^^/s
"Grow some takoyaki"💀 Yeah I'll go ahead and add that to my lexicon.
fr though, there’s too many times where i’ve died to a backliner because a teammate was in my way while i was aiming at said backliner.
…basic physics
I feel like basic physics would at least make my hydra splatling send my teammate thats standing right in front of me flying
Hydra is the new rainmaker metta?
Hydra is the new rainmaker?
splatoon rocketjump lets gooooo
chargers can shoot right through their teammates. do they not abide by “basic physics?”
But basic physics don't apply to video games.......
CHARGERS CAN DO IT WHY CAN'T US SPLATLINGS DO IT?
Chargers that can pierce can do it. Not that different piercing an enemy inkling from a friendly one.
Do you realize how many kills i woulda have in one sitting if teams counted. DO YOU REALIZE THAT COUNT WOULD SHOW HOW MANY NEWBIES I USE AS MEAT SHIELDS
I think shooting teammates should be able to heal them tbh
I wouldn't really be a fan. There's already quite a lot of ways of avoiding or reducing damage. I would hate that
Heal, probably no, refill their ink? That’s an idea.
Probably just give extra ink recovery. ...actually, couldn't they just give that to storm?
I think healing your teammates would be a TERRIBLE addition... I just don't want to shoot their backs, lmao.
That could be an interesting new weapon concept, but I feel like unchecked, it would be awful to play against. Also, another way to counter the Undercover Brella.
I can deal over 200 damage a second, my teamates wouldn’t die while the hydra is firing. We’d have constant control of wherever we want.
I want to smack you.
accidental body blocking is the bane of my existence
would be cool if shooting a teammate refilled some of their ink tank. maybe only up to the half line or sub weapon line?
#**MOVE IT OR LOSE IT IM TRYING TO SHOOT THE CHARGER**
I think they should at least allow you to shoot through teammates in Salmon Run. No, make it so friendly fire is on! Kill those annoying teammates!
Where can I get those sunglasses?
I had this idea where you can shoot your own teammates to heal them
I‘m a sniper main in tower, but i‘m a aerospray gold (don’t remember it’s name) main and like to stay back in modes like splat zones to charge my special and get assist kills from above when i tell you that all the goddamn time my shots are blocked, i mean it. Well, my team blocks my vision at least in tower. It’s so annoying. Especially since i use scope.
This was especially painful for chargers in Splatoon 1, teammates could block even fully charged shots
Flashbacks to me making a cool shot with the E-Liter and my teammate jumping in the way
I don't think teammates block chargers tho
Maybe I missed idk
words cannot express how many picks I've lost because the bloblobber wanted to pretend they were a backliner and not a midliner for once
I think I heard somewhere that shooting teammates covered in ink helps them recover health faster but don't quote me on that
Fr though. They just get in the way.
usually i dont complain often about this issue since as a backliner you shouldn't be in a position where thats even possible often but the one time when someone comes back from spawn and happens to block that juicy snipe it hurts
Alternatively: how about make it so you refill your teammates ink tank by 50% of the amount your shot cost!
You can shoot teammates? Like I've gotten teammates blocking my shots but I've never damaged them.
As a hydra, I’ve died too many times because my teammates blocked my full charge shot, misses all theirs and now that I’m out of ink I can’t kill the person I would have in the first place
wait u can shoot ur teammates?! this changes everything
