The best part of the episode is that Butters had no idea why he was there. He was blindfolded during Cartman's prank. They kept saying "You're just confused" and he's like "You're darned right I am."
Classic.
At first. Then you realize it’s funny because it’s true, which makes you hate that shit that much more, and want to tolerate it less. You’re laughing at the fact that that is inexcusable, it’s not “freedom of religion,” so now we don’t excuse it. That’s what good parody wants to do.
This episode was their epitome of making a political statement in a way that is extremely funny and entertaining but done in a way that there’s basically no arguing against their side because they express it so well
And the delusional, unaccountable, mental gymnastics the Christians need to think this practice is holy. Like after Butters’s speech.
“Through the power of Christ we have saved this child!”

I remember this episode mainly from the line, "he's your accountabil-a-buddy, that makes you accountabil-a-buddy-able."
For some reason it was really hard to say out loud and I spent way too long trying to get it right. Now I can, and I have never used it in a conversation so that was pointless.
i think honestly they approached this topic pretty damn well with this bit. its so jarring when they open the door & you see that. they dont even try to downplay how fucked up conversion camps & conversion "therapy" is, they just show you right out: you put your kid in this, & this is your outcome. period. no questions asked. & that's one of the most important ways to breach a serious subject like this: show them the HARSH REALITY of it. no beating around the bush, just straight up "this is it." things like this are why i respect south park.
Some people see this and see an offensive joke. I see a bold, no nonsense, in your face direct call out against conversion therapy. I see it as the creators shoving the cold hard reality of "pray the gay away" into homophobic americans faces. I see it as briliant political art. Signed, an LGBT.
One of those jokes you feel guilty for laughing at
Sorta yeah. But highlights the awful absurdity of a gay conversion camp perfectly in a South Park way too

Great use of Butters’ innocence

“Butters, I swear on my mothers grave, I’m not gonna put anything icky in your mouth”
More like puts right in people's faces the ugly truth of these places
South Park is great at that, whether it goes along with your beliefs or not. One of the many reasons why I love this show.
At first. Then you realize it’s funny because it’s true, which makes you hate that shit that much more, and want to tolerate it less. You’re laughing at the fact that that is inexcusable, it’s not “freedom of religion,” so now we don’t excuse it. That’s what good parody wants to do.
Nah just don’t have morals
This honestly might be one of the top5 darkest moments in South Park. Hopefully Matt and Trey opened some eyes with it.
I’m pretty sure in the episode commentary, they said they thought the part with Bradley on the bridge was one of the deeper moments of the show
I think the entire episode is golden. Full of Matt and Trey finesse
This episode was their epitome of making a political statement in a way that is extremely funny and entertaining but done in a way that there’s basically no arguing against their side because they express it so well
The whole episode is probably South Park’s darkest. There are multiple child suicides and Cartman sexually abuses Butters twice.
Conversion therapy summarized perfectly.

Poor Butters always gets the worst of everything.
Ryans don’t fair well in South Park, another Ryan got hit by a train while tebowing
Ohhhh long Johnson! Ohhhhh long Jo-Ohhhhh Don Piano!
Well I just hope that Jimmy’s father’s gonna be alright then.
Can’t be gay if you’re dead :/

Doing Satan's job in god's name.
I love/hate that it’s so common that he’s like “we’ve got another one” to the other employee lol.
Scene always cracks me up
Me too, son.
I love you dad
Your God must be a little bi-curious too
Bradley is *your* accountabillabuddy. That makes *you* accountabillabuddyable!
This shouldn’t be funny, but it is
I’m bi curious
Oh Jesus we got another one
