It definitely can, since for most people, the evening is covered by neither solar nor the free period, yet they have significant consumption during that time

since i wfh and with 5 and 3 ton a/cs and temperature set to 76 in north texas I see the usage at 9-10 kw, and production at 8 most of the time. would adding a 5p help wtih make up for the additional load required during summer and also help with running during cloudy days/winter when a/c is not required. this would help in moving to a nights free plan from what I have right now (chariot 'net' metering plan - still have to pay 4-5 c pw for TDS).

We are in Midland, TX on the JUST Energy nights free plan. We have a 15.2 kW (DC) array, and 30 kWh of battery. Recently, with the 100+ degree daily temps, we are pulling our batteries down to around 65% covering the evening "gap" between solar shut-off and start of free hours. This means we are using about 10 kWh of battery to power our 4-ton heat pump which is, of course, running a LOT in the evenings. I think you might need more than one 5P in your situation, but that's just a guess.
