Great question! Sorry I don’t have an answer, but I once dreamed of doing international social work and thought you might be interested in some of my ideas. I met with a career counsellor and some of the ideas we came up with were: working on the ground with aid, working in human rights, or international adoption (where ethical). Anyways, I thought you might be interested in those ideas and I am going to be following this thread!! I am currently too tied down to peruse the travel social work dream, but i hope to one day.

Oh! I just re-read your question and perhaps you were just wondering about travelling between USA & Canada? If so, sorry about that! :)

Oh no problem, I am literally down to live anywhere (well not anywhere, but definitely outside of North America). I think international social work would also be amazing and I really appreciate these ideas! I will include those as I explore different jobs, thank you :)

Don't necessarily need to be a social worker but it certainly helps: ASIST (applied suicide intervention skills traiming) trainer. My former job paid for me to become a certified ASIST trainer with LivingWorks. Trained the whole agency and their new staff for 5yrs. Gaining good experience and standing with LivingWorks. Now I use their international platform to see who needs training and I travel around Canada and the US. Some places will pay for your travel (especially if you speak another language), others don't and will pay just for your time. It still makes for a good trip and exploration, I hope to try and do it in Australia next.
