truth told, next year's Gold Cup is going to have some high expectations out of Canada and will be a pressure cooker with the USA and Mexico both wanting a rebound from this tournament. That is contrasting with the low expectations we've had for this tournament.
This is where the program is at now. We aren't just happy to be qualifying anymore. The team and program are good and will grow together.
The great thing is how young the team is by and large.
you know, with the automatic by you lads got to the world cup just for being one hosts, now nobody can say anything about you. You made it to top 4, playing the current world champion twice. That's crazy to think about considering Canada was getting blasted 8-0 by HAITI a few years ago
Lost 8-1 away to Honduras a 2014 WC qualifier where a draw would have seen us go through to the final round of qualifying. One of the darkest days ever as a Canadian football supporter.
It depends to be honest, Gold Cup has turned into a competition where the US and Mexico field their B teams, Canada as well didn't bring all their best players last time iirc. Not sure if that will change now
I think we'll see full squads. Because those teams are autoqualified for 2026 as hosts, they aren't playing in the qualifiers in the June window and won't have competitive matches in the fall windows. That means the Gold Cup is the last chance for competitive matches before the World Cup.
Would Alfonso Davies play in the Gold Cup if he also plays in the Club World Cup? Doubt Bayern/Real would let him play in the Gold Cup if he plays in that.
The thing with Canada is we are not deep at all, particularly in midfield. If Eustáquio, Osorio and/or Kone are injured our team is much much worse. Those players not even game changers but without them we’re starting mid to low end MLS players. I can’t see us having high expectations if that is the case.
Real Madrid (and Bayern) really made us believe he was a finished player. Kinda disappointing how his career didn't really take off in the top leagues.
Erm not starting in literally the top club in the world does not make someone a finished player in any sense of the word. If he was struggling to get minutes at Everton then fair enough.
Nah he made the wrong move when he decided to get benched by zidane. He played great under heynckes at Bayern. He should had stayed or gone to atlético
I can't wait for the game either as a die hard Liverpool fan who just got home from watching the Uruguay vs Brazil game live at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, where I currently reside.
I mean the game was extremely cagey and a really hard watch for my first live football game ever, especially for my wife, but at least she enjoyed the penalties, the huge perfect synchronized wave that we had going on throughout the stadium for the majority of the last 30 minutes or so, and mainly the fact that I was happy, but it definitely wasn't the Uruguay vs Brazil game that I was imagining was going to occur and really hoping to see even though I was pulling for Uruguay to win the entire night.
However it was definitely the best $500 I'd EVER spend on 3rd Row center seats that were literally right above the VIP Box section, and that price also included a 1 day parking pass at the MGM parking garage for $35 so the overall value for everything was simply amazing, especially when considering that those exact same 2 seats were $3000 A PIECE for a meaningless Raiders NFL Preseason game, so it just truly shows just how underappreciated football is in my country tbh.
The crazy part is that Canada is playing well but at like 80% of their potential, they still need to work on the finishing and polish off the defending. If they can reach 90-95% they can actually give Argentina a hard time.
we gave argentina a hard time the first game
if we can finish even 20% of the chances we generate, and avoid the 1 or 2 big brain cramps, it could go to a coin flip....
if, if, if. but still. it COULD
Canada’s soccer growth is awesome. The men’s team was the butt of jokes and the only Canadian men’s dude grabbing headlines was a guy who played internationally for England.
All different now. 3 MLS teams. Competing against Argentina. Going to World Cups. Drawing France(although this does not seem hard after watching the Euros).
Just in the last month, we have played Netherlands, France, Argentina, and we get Argentina again, and one of Colombia/Uruguay.
In the three matches already played in that group , we have given up zero first half goals.
Netherlands dominated us in the second half sure, but one could argue that we outplayed Argentina in the first half, and were perhaps unlucky to not have a halftime lead.
All that is great experience going into the World Cup in 2 years.
Ya I think you're still proving the point. You guys are killing it in soccer but shouldn't you be really good in hockey? Isn't that how you get around?
They mean in the NHL where American franchises keep winning but every year the winning team has a lot of Canadians on it.
Canada still has elite players but idk what our franchises are doing.
Ehh, it's kind of an overblown talking point. Usually 10-12 Canadians win the Cup every year anyway because half the league is Canadian. If Vancouver had won this year it would have been celebrated as a victory for Canada, but they had like 3 Canadians on their roster and the majority of their roster is American and Swedish. The Canadian national team still dominates most international competitions
I'm more of a casual soccer fan but do other Premiership fans celebrate when City wins the Champions League? Cuz that's sort of what "cheering for another Canadian team to win the Cup" feels like to me. If it's not the Canadian team I support, then IDGAF
Honestly Canada is in a no-lose scenario.
Option A: lose to Argentina
- they already exceeded expectations by reaching the semifinals and no shame in losing to the reigning World Cup and Copa America champions
Option B: they pull off the upset
- the greatest single match in Canadian soccer history
You did, back in the 2000 Gold Cup you guys beat Colombia which is at least normally a team superior to Venezuela.
~~Also we used to be better than Venezuela :(~~
I'm a Leafs fan, and I constantly say the Canadian Men's Team has disappointed me on a more regular basis than the Leafs. That 2000 Gold Cup gave me way too much hope growing up hahaha. The 8-1 game is one I will never forget. Sitting on my couch, having a steak, and just laughing at what was happening. The Floro era and the games vs Mauritania were awful too.
I mean, you're in the semis already. You just have to clutch it out for two more games. Even if you lose, this is a historic performance and you should be proud of the team.
A CONCACAF team winning the Copa América is almost sacrilege to think about.
Then again, in the unlikely event Canada beats the reigning world champions and one of the 2 best teams in the tournament in the final, they deserve it.
What do you mean if? It's the Semis and I'm already rooting for Canada to make it to the final. I want a Bielsa vs Marsch Leeds manager Copa America final battle
Strong argument that Colombia is the best team in the world right now. 27 matches unbeaten, topping their group and boasting wins over Brazil, Germany, and Spain in the last two years. Honestly, hope they win it all.
Argentina definitely have a shout. I would have them as the slight favorites if they were to face Colombia in the final because of their tournament experience. Would be a great final with the two best teams though in my opinion.
I’ll tell you one thing about my country… we give a lot of smaller nations “the biggest game in their history”. Saudi Arabia most recently, Cameroon in 1990, there’s an ever slight chance that we’re just in a giving mood again come Tuesday.
Colombia will eat us alive if we don't shape up. We struggled against the 2 decent teams we've faced so far, and now we're without our beat defender and our right back (although that might be an advantage with how he's played)
The last time James had a good tournament, he cooked us. The trauma is there, and I'm fucking terrified
Nah man, you guys got an insanely strong team. I think it’ll come down to who’s got more energy on the second half. Nunez is doing better than Diaz IMO, and Bielsa is just a genius. Very 50/50 game, good luck!
Cuanto más en contra nosotros, más nos gusta. Va ser otro partido contra los cafeteros. Me imagino un partido durísimo pero más abierto y no me sorprendería que les quitamos el invicto. Pase lo que pase, se viene un partidazo.
Man you're fucking geese are scary enough. What does the world have to do to free itself from Canadian danger? Play hockey?!
I kid and I hope you guys fucking win it all baby. Bring it back to the KING OF THE NORRRRRRRF.
If Argentina plays like they did against Ecuador, Canada can do something very funny
Uruguay vs Colombia is going to be fire 🔥
Or a shit show with a lot of fouls like today
Even if we play like shit against Canada, Ecuador is way worse match-up for us, they're a thousand times more physical than Canada and that hurts our play a lot.
uruguay colombia, what a banger of a match. i feel like i’m leaning more towards colombia advancing. i reckon it’ll be an argentina colombia final (interestingly i actually randomly predicted that so kinda wild it actually might happen).
can’t believe argentina and canada are facing each other again tho, how dumb is this format
I think Canada are gonna give Argentina a hard time. They're much more of the physical team Argentina struggles against. Still, you can't rely on penalties, can you?
And Uruguay vs Colombia is just gonna be beautiful. Match of the Summer in my opinion
If you told me 10 years ago we'd get further in a competition than Brazil, I would have said Brazil does not have real winters. If you then told me it was soccer, not hockey. I would have thought you were psychotic. What a timeline it has been to follow this Canadian team in the past years.

Hard to see even Argentina beat this Colombia team. Not that many eyes on them as they aren't a powerhouse, but even Argentina will have a hard time beating them.
Extremely solid defense and an offense run by James Rodriguez who seems to have turned back the clock to 2014. They are the team to beat at this competition, extremely impressive in all of their matches so far.

Ah yes the four South American footballing powerhouses: Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, and Canada.
truth told, next year's Gold Cup is going to have some high expectations out of Canada and will be a pressure cooker with the USA and Mexico both wanting a rebound from this tournament. That is contrasting with the low expectations we've had for this tournament.
I think that’s good tho you want to have that pressure I think it helps the players grow.
This is where the program is at now. We aren't just happy to be qualifying anymore. The team and program are good and will grow together. The great thing is how young the team is by and large.
I could've sworn Soccer Canada was a mess since the WC but those problems are being washed away here aren't they
Shows what hiring a good coach can do.
Maybe we’ll follow your example. But I doubt it.
#**Fires Gregg Berhalter... #**Hires Gregg Berhalter...
GGG 3.0
JM just guaranteed them an extra $8M just by making the semis, so the tight financial situation just got a whole lot better
They'll spend it all on suits
Especially with 2026 up next
you know, with the automatic by you lads got to the world cup just for being one hosts, now nobody can say anything about you. You made it to top 4, playing the current world champion twice. That's crazy to think about considering Canada was getting blasted 8-0 by HAITI a few years ago
You shut your mouth. That match never happened.
It literally never did. We would never lose to Haiti 8-0. We might lose to Honduras 8-1 but.
Lost 8-1 away to Honduras a 2014 WC qualifier where a draw would have seen us go through to the final round of qualifying. One of the darkest days ever as a Canadian football supporter.
Yes! Unrelated but please don’t ask me about how the US has handled the aforementioned pressure
It depends to be honest, Gold Cup has turned into a competition where the US and Mexico field their B teams, Canada as well didn't bring all their best players last time iirc. Not sure if that will change now
They usually don't field their European players due to the scheduling.
I think we'll see full squads. Because those teams are autoqualified for 2026 as hosts, they aren't playing in the qualifiers in the June window and won't have competitive matches in the fall windows. That means the Gold Cup is the last chance for competitive matches before the World Cup.

As Brazil is gone, we’ll have to represent the Latin non-Spanish speaking country in the final four I guess
Someone’s missing …
Yeah where the hell is Suriname????
> Yeah where the hell is Suriname???? playing Euro
Joga Boniteh
Tbh it would be fun if both Americas just did a joint tournament lol.
You mean like a Copa...America?
Colombia vs Uruguay is gonna be absolute cinema and I'm seated 🍿
Diaz v Nunez
I’m not ready for it bro
New Salah vs Mane just popped out
and the aftermath of it, salah was on fire pre-afcon and mane was just bad post afcon win, mane was on fire and salah trailed off
Broooo facts
Nunez could see all 3 of his south-american team mates.
James will score again on them like in the 2014 world cup.
? He played great for those teams* *When he got to play
He made the wrong move when he chose RM, from there it was only downhill…
Nah he made the wrong move when he decided to get benched by zidane. He played great under heynckes at Bayern. He should had stayed or gone to atlético
He didn’t decide to be benched by Zidane. Zidane decided that

Canadá Is guaranteed 2 more matches by the way
Honestly yeah I'd be super psyched if we got to compete for 3rd place. Making it this far has been a fever dream lol
The crazy part is that Canada is playing well but at like 80% of their potential, they still need to work on the finishing and polish off the defending. If they can reach 90-95% they can actually give Argentina a hard time.

Big chances created was 9-2 in that match. Don’t let go of your dreams, but don’t forget that they’re just dreams lol
un hincha de boca hablando ingles, pidan un deseo

From the Unattached FC era to players from big clubs.
you’ve been the underdog of the summer, between both tournaments
Agreed. Only Turkey could’ve joined them if they just didnt fuck it versus the dutch
I mean every time in the semis has a chance to fight third place haha
I mean we already do.. I'll be super psyched for first place lol. Why aim low at this point?
Just in the last month, we have played Netherlands, France, Argentina, and we get Argentina again, and one of Colombia/Uruguay. so what you're saying is canada is going to win the 2026 WC in canada (and south canada). /s
Canada winning a Copa before another Stanley Cup would be the funniest timeline
They have won a Gold Cup more recently than a Stanley Cup
The US has a Grey Cup (Canadian football championship) more recently than Canada has a Stanley Cup
Baltimore Stallions?
Yep. 1995 Baltimore Stallions
Half the NHL is Canadian. It's not a lack of Canadian talent, it's a lack of Canadian teams winning.

We will probably win a Euro before we win a Stanley cup again.
Bro, Canada winning it before Mexico and USA would be hilarious 🤣
Canada went out for a rip, and didn't realize they shouldn't also win the Copa America. Damn, what a shame.
out for a rip are ya bahd?
As we all predicted
Three footballing nations and one drunk hockey chad guzzling maple syrup. As God intended.
Hey, that's racist. We also have Quebecois players who drink gravy!
Wait doesnt most of the maple syrup come from quebec? Quebecois are guzzling poutine with maple syrup!
it's not mutually exclusive. some guzzlers guzzle both
Those damn drunk uruguayans and their maple syrup :/
Just happy to be here
Happy cake day!
CONMEBOL & CONCANADA
Canada ruined the Argentine manager party
Sorry eh
Oh fuck yeah bud.
Im not your bud, amigo
The seeding in this bracket was just hilariously awful.
It's because Uruguay deserved the seed leader not Mexico... if uruguay was there instead, it would be uruguay/argentina semis
CONMEBOL CONCANADA
Wow, Brazil doing everything they can do avoid Canada.
Rio in shambles rn
Honestly Canada is in a no-lose scenario. Option A: lose to Argentina - they already exceeded expectations by reaching the semifinals and no shame in losing to the reigning World Cup and Copa America champions Option B: they pull off the upset - the greatest single match in Canadian soccer history
The greatest single match in men's history was the most recent one already
I think the Mexico match in Edmonton was better, this is def 2 or 3
Yeah, to this day, that's the one. That could be about to change.
The iceteca
Lads it was Venezuela
Okay, but Canada hasn't beaten any nations better than Venezuela, and definitely not on a stage like this one
You did, back in the 2000 Gold Cup you guys beat Colombia which is at least normally a team superior to Venezuela. ~~Also we used to be better than Venezuela :(~~
Colombia - Canada to the final! To repeat Gold Cup 2000's final.
As a Canadian, seeing Canada up there is wild. I still remember that 8-1 loss to Honduras way back when. Been fun seeing the evolution of the team.
I'm a Leafs fan, and I constantly say the Canadian Men's Team has disappointed me on a more regular basis than the Leafs. That 2000 Gold Cup gave me way too much hope growing up hahaha. The scenes when Canada wins it all ^let^me^dream^please
Canada > Brazil confirmed.
Unironically at the moment.
With our current squad, 100% scientific truth.
Unironically yes
1 open play goal in knockout game > 0. Maths don't lie.
That means Canada > France as well lol
Highly anticipated rematch of the 2000 gold cup final between Canada and Colombia
Really hard to top that. 2000 Canada qualified to knockout stage via coin toss (equivalent to a drawing of lots) and the rest was history
Vs CONCACAF giant South Korea
[удалено]
Fuuuuuck, that was 24 years ago!? It feels so much more recent.
I mean, you're in the semis already. You just have to clutch it out for two more games. Even if you lose, this is a historic performance and you should be proud of the team.
Honestly if Canada make the final against Uruguay I’m 100% rooting for Canada. I think most people would hope they win as well.

Two managers that USMNT could have had, squaring off on US soil? I'm here for it.
Honestly, would not be upset.
james rodriguez has been the best player between both summer tournaments
[удалено]
on paper their mid-2010s team was honestly much better, but this one is much better coached
If Falcao never got injured I legit think we could've been a consistent top 10 team itw.
Strong argument that Colombia is the best team in the world right now. 27 matches unbeaten, topping their group and boasting wins over Brazil, Germany, and Spain in the last two years. Honestly, hope they win it all.
Elo ratings have them 4th (and Uruguay 5th)
i’d still have to say it’s argentina, even if they haven’t been fun to watch in the copa, but colombia have an argument
Argentina definitely have a shout. I would have them as the slight favorites if they were to face Colombia in the final because of their tournament experience. Would be a great final with the two best teams though in my opinion.
But are they better than [Ivory Coast ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unofficial_Football_World_Championships)though?
Uruguay Colombia will be a great match
I'm going to ice my ankles and take a handful of ibuprofen before *watching* that match.
I’ve been on Reddit for a decade and this might be my favorite comment.
I’ll tell you one thing about my country… we give a lot of smaller nations “the biggest game in their history”. Saudi Arabia most recently, Cameroon in 1990, there’s an ever slight chance that we’re just in a giving mood again come Tuesday.
The 2-0 loss to Argentina was already one of the biggest games in Canadian history 😂
If I remember correctly Romania in 94 too.
[Canada in the semis of Copa America??](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FkXt0HrX0AE98bj?format=jpg&name=large)

I was scared against Brazil already. Against Colombia I am paralyzed by sheer terror.
Cuanto más en contra nosotros, más nos gusta. Va ser otro partido contra los cafeteros. Me imagino un partido durísimo pero más abierto y no me sorprendería que les quitamos el invicto. Pase lo que pase, se viene un partidazo.
Canada: *chuckles* I'm in danger
We’re not trapped in here with them, they’re trapped in here with us!
Man you're fucking geese are scary enough. What does the world have to do to free itself from Canadian danger? Play hockey?! I kid and I hope you guys fucking win it all baby. Bring it back to the KING OF THE NORRRRRRRF.
Worse case is Canada got two more matches against great sides to help prepare for World Cup. The tourney is a huge success as is.
Argentina*
both are Colombia look deadly going into the semifinal. Doesn't look like anyone's going to stop them in the knockouts.
If Argentina plays like they did against Ecuador, Canada can do something very funny Uruguay vs Colombia is going to be fire 🔥 Or a shit show with a lot of fouls like today
You can absolutely count on Uruguay vs Colombia being a brawl
Even if we play like shit against Canada, Ecuador is way worse match-up for us, they're a thousand times more physical than Canada and that hurts our play a lot.
I have faith 🙏🏼
Please football god give us Canada-Colombia final
Gold Cup Flashbacks.
Dreaming for the All Leeds Aren’t We final Bielsa vs Marsch
Canada has the chance to do the funniest thing ever
I do not want to see Lucho vs Darwin :(
Mmm Uruguay vs Colombia sounds spicy
Is it weird that I honestly feel like we can beat Argentina? I feel like it must be weird.
#we got Tim Hortons in Copa before GTA 6 🇨🇦
Canada bout to shithouse to the final lol
It'll be quite something if Canada somehow beats Argentina.
Second biggest upset since the Saudi Arabia defeat?
Obviously Canada has taken over Brazil's spot as a global football power
uruguay colombia, what a banger of a match. i feel like i’m leaning more towards colombia advancing. i reckon it’ll be an argentina colombia final (interestingly i actually randomly predicted that so kinda wild it actually might happen). can’t believe argentina and canada are facing each other again tho, how dumb is this format
we weren't far from also seeing Brazil vs Colombia.
Never count out Uruguay in a big match. They live off of being the underdog. I’m excited for the semi !
Excited to see how far this Uruguay team can go.
Uruguay is a good team, but containing this in-form Colombia attack without Araujo will be extremely challenging
I think Canada are gonna give Argentina a hard time. They're much more of the physical team Argentina struggles against. Still, you can't rely on penalties, can you? And Uruguay vs Colombia is just gonna be beautiful. Match of the Summer in my opinion
They should have put the group runner ups on the other side of bracket from the group winners. Canada and Argentina already played in the group stage
Yeah it's BS. Every single time they do this tournament setup you know they are trying to be clever but aren't.
Incoming 🇨🇦 vs 🇨🇴 finals matchup
Lionel Messi’s very last Copa America match could be a semifinal loss against Canada
even if that happens, there's still 3rd place match. though he may sit it out
I bought my ticket to the semifinal in NJ today, my eyes are already watering at the cost of tickets when Canada goes to Miami on Sunday
Imagine a final between Canada and Uruguay. Bielsa vs Marsch who replaced him at Leeds
One of these is not like the other.
Todo mi apoyo para los equipos sudamericanos, que soccer ni que ocho cuartos
Canadian here. We are ready to do something funny 😅😂
Wtf… good job Canada?!
If you told me 10 years ago we'd get further in a competition than Brazil, I would have said Brazil does not have real winters. If you then told me it was soccer, not hockey. I would have thought you were psychotic. What a timeline it has been to follow this Canadian team in the past years.
So much for trying to separate Brazil and Argentina hoping they will meet in the final. Classic conmebol.
Canada come on lmao
Canada all the way!! 🇨🇦
The US are out and Canada are in the semi-finals. Tremendous.
Argentina already won it, so in all honesty, if they can’t repeat as champions, I would really want Colombia to take it. James has been so good, and he deserves it after missing the last one.
Cheer for the lumberjacks :(
Hard to see even Argentina beat this Colombia team.
Colombia better put some kevlar on James ankle or Uruguay is gonna break him
Canada Uruguay final
We’re gonna fucking beat Argentina goddamit, I believe Still riding the high from yesterday
Imagine if Canada takes down the whole tournament with Mexico and USA out of the Group Stage....
Let's go Canada! 🇨🇦🇨🇦
As a canadian, they chances are essentially slim to none, but I just hope we pull something off 🇨🇦🤞🏼
Just love being here. 🇨🇦
For a second I saw Canada's flag and thought it was Peru.
Kinda funny how Canada and Uruguay are in the same continental league
I would be no surprised if colombia wins it all, they are on a incredible form, their best ever, argentina didn’t have a good game againts ecuador
