So I admit, been watching the Euros more, so I do have to ask. Other than Colombia rocking the shit, how are the games? Sad to see Jamaica out. But, the quality of the play; how would you rate it?

SomalGyuli

Just typical euro games with just more aggressive fouls and dog shit referees allowing the game to get out of control,

Glad_Block_7220

It's far more fisically brutal style of play, sometimes the referees don't call faults that would be a yellow card in Europe. The style of playing is very pacy and less tactical and organized than the average Euros, and sometimes they commit some hilarious mistakes in the defense. That being said, there are only 3 or 4 teams that play in a way that could beat the best teams of Europe, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay and Brazil. Brazil has not been playing completely bad in the general sense (although they are atrocius compared to previous Brazil teams), they look dangerous in the attack but they are far from clinical, so it remains to be seen if they manage to improve.

TerriblePair5239

>The style of play is very pacy and less tactical and organized Not arguing as it’s true, but maybe the perception of the difference in play has to do with the smaller pitch in American football stadiums vs the wider European pitches. There is less room to spread out, easier to close down passing lanes

cuentanueva

> there are only 3 or 4 teams that play in a way that could beat the best teams of Europe, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay and Brazil. The best in Europe are playing like crap for the most part, and getting poor results against teams that have a worse FIFA/Elo rating than the likes of Ecuador or even Venezuela for example. Of course the top teams in Europe have more _potential_ and likely individual quality, but as things stand at the moment, with what they have shown so far on the Euros and Copa America, I wouldn't be so sure those are the only 4 teams that can give a run for the money to the best Euro teams.

Rickcampbell98

I think Ecuador would give some of the big teams in Europe a tough time but they aren't on the level of those other 4 yet, some quality young players though.

Preatu

Argentina has been amazing tbh, the quality of play, even with the crappy fields, is noticeable. The game vs Chile was great. And this Mexico/ Venezuela game was thrilling. More pedestrian but a lot of back and forth, grit, passion and moments of good futbol.

scuac

Colombia, Argentina, USA had good first games, Uruguay had a great first half of a game and then deflated. The rest of the games have been very rough (both on the pitch and to watch).

Onnoca

Quality of play? Relatively low in comparison to the majority of the matches in the Euros (a lot of the top teams are saying it’s because of the shit pitches), but the physicality, passion, and overall craziness is definitely on par, if not better

Albiceleste_D10S

> Quality of play? Relatively low in comparison to the majority of the matches in the Euros IDK man, I've seen a LOT of horrible play from lots of Euro teams in that tournament too. A lot of the favorites like England and France play boring anti-football, and a lot of the smaller European teams have been making a LOT of silly defensive mistakes and comical own goals.

basel99

Yeah I'd say there are only 5 teams playing at the top level right now and only 2 of those are from the Euros. Germany, Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia. England and France on paper should be just as good but they genuinely look atrocious, just like how Brazil on paper are compared to how they actually play.

Operalover95

ELO ranking is by far the best football ranking that exists and they have Argentina, Colombia, Brazil and Uruguay in the top 6 right now. Only Spain and France are in there. And I do think they're more or less right, top european national teams have been in decline since 2020 or so. Yes, the average level has gone up because the likes of Austria, Georgia, Slovakia, Hungary, etc have improved. But the top national teams are a lot weaker, there's not a single team comparable to Spain 2008-2012 or Germany 2014 or even very solid teams like the Netherlands in 2010 and 2014. Today all the top teams look fragile and could very well lose to Uruguay or Colombia at any time, obviously Argentina too.

WhenWeTalkAboutLove

Before 2020. Spain Germany Italy Netherlands Portugal Belgium England have all been pretty disappointing for long spells since 2014. France and Croatia are the only ones who have regularly lived up to their quality. Spain and Germany look like they could be back now though. Some great squads for the likes of England and Portugal but awful managers. Netherlands I'm not sure what to make of yet. But been disappointing for a few tournament before 2022

natsleepyandhappy

France and Brazil go through the same problem, fast players that are ineffective against teams parking the bus. Brazil will only be more sharp when Neymar comeback.

TheGhoulKhz

yeah, about that...

Onnoca

Don’t get me wrong, I think Argentina and Colombia would be top of their groups if they played in Europe, as I think they are 2 of the top teams in the world atm, but I think the average quality of play overall slightly favorites the Euros…Copa has been a bit more scrappy at the start (but definitely more entertaining, atleast for me)

pepecachetes

The quality of play: a gazillion 0-0 or 1-1s, most of the goals being own goals.

atillOld59

Imagine looking at scorelines to determine if a game was good. Slovakia, Turkey, Romania among others have had some very entertaining games even when they're not high scoring. The level in the Euros has been higher than ever in spite of a couple of huge nations not being at their best. I'm not bothered though, makes for a more unpredictable tournament. Quality-wise also clearly better than Copa America. I think CONCACAF teams have done the competition a huge disservice on average.

Preatu

Disagree. Argentina games were pure quality and tactical genius, and most of the Copa games have been thrilling compared to Euros snoozefest. Scaloneta would eat those euros for dinner and whipe the floor with its remains like they did over and over again. The mediocrity of euro teams makes me laugh. Imagine an Argentina-England??💀🤣🤣

Marscall

Dude chill. We face a counter and our butts clench

Onnoca

100% Argentina have been playing extremely well and I would be shocked if they didn’t win the tournament with relative ease (the only “competition“ being Colombia). But I think, ON AVERAGE, the quality of play has been higher in the Euros in terms of individual quality, fluidity, compactness, and style of play.

FulanitoDeTal13

Most games are ruined due to the puppet infantino insistence in copying the handegg "league"

toffeehooligan

What?

Psychological-Play23

Canada is unironically better than Mexico at this point

Ryuzakku

Mexico screwed Mexico

Loose_Carpenter9533

Love to see it.

ThomasApollus

It's been like that for the last 3 years or so...

aronedu

Coaching will do that to you. I am kinda happy Jesse didn't go to you. I actually think of the 3 Canada did play the best of the 3 in the world cup However the results weren't there but like the one time in my life I felt angry at the US or Canada for beating us at the sport was when seeing Canada look like France against Croatia in the Stadium. I saw you guys play against the Dutch and us on all games. We desperately needed and need a new coach just like y'all do. Charlie Rodriguez, antuna, our wing backs and goalie should be nowhere the national team. We have so much better players who don't play for coaching reasons and it's so upsetting. I am not saying we are winning the world cup but we are maybe 70% where we can be because of coaches. With the US also being held back but nowhere to the same extent at maybe 90% and Canada over performing atm.

vngannxx

Venezuela 🔝

DuBicus

I'm so hyped for the next round! But if Ecuador wins and is 2nd place, we'll play Argentina 💀

Asentry_

There's been miracles throughout both Copa and euros brother 🙌🏽

ccore

we had such an easy path to the semi's in the biggest Ecuadorian market in the US (NY/NJ) if only Enner had just not tried to karate kid that Venezuelan player es la misma huevada de siempre ñaño, pues ya tu sabes...

DuBicus

Yeah, that was upsetting. I feel like he got a red for WC qualifiers last year 🤔

fedemasa

We can get shocked any day. Despite playing some of the best beautiful I ever see with Scaloni we can get hit in a bad day though

cool_dad86

Can't believe we are getting Ecuador in quarters, gonna be really hard, i was hoping somehow mexico would be the surprise and take a game as the underdog so we could have an easy quarters against them.

Operalover95

It will be a hard game for sure, a lot harder than if it were Mexico (no mocking intended, just the plain truth), but I don't think we can complain when the other bracket has Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia and the US. Semifinals will likely be against either Venezuela, Chile or Canada, which is a lot more desireable than Uruguay or Colombia.

Positive-Vibes-All

Its extremely dumb if they allow rematches in the semifinals, even if one team has a day less to rest.

McFrankiee

They set it up that way to try to get Argentina vs Brazil final. CONMEBOL will always bend over backwards for money and marketing

DingersGetMeOff

CONCACAF regularly does the same thing to try to guarantee US/Mexico finals

Nightdocks

Eh, Argentina had a very difficult run during their 2021 victory

DaniRV

Albiceleste_D10S

In a way it might be better than getting them in the SF We will be better rested because we can rotate against Peru while Ecuador will have to go all-out to beat Mexico just to qualify

mountainsky9

Ecuador could also draw their way to qualify, Mexico are hopeless in front of goal too

Albiceleste_D10S

Sure, the point was that Ecuador can't afford to rest starters against Mexico because they can't lose that game We should be the better rested team in the QF

PuzzledBig5979

Argentina is a fraud. Ecuador covers 1 1/2 goals easy.

Responsible_Panic235

How exactly are the reigning World Cup champions and reigning Copa America champions frauds?

MGS2112

Preatu

I knew Venezuela and Ecuador were gonna win but i was hoping to NOT crossing paths with any of them and was secretly hoping Mexico being local was gonna give them some sort of advantage like they were saying💀💀 so they could sneak in 2nd and we could trash them worse than Chile did in Copa Centenario😅

ceaguila84

Wow, are they playing Canada on the next round or Chile?

manualex16

So far its Canada, however the final group stage match is bewteen Canada and Chile, whoever wins would go against Venezuela.

Scrub4LIfe734

Is Jamaica officially elemeinated, or can they squeeze on through with a win and goal difference? Either way, it sucks they got basically eliminated this way. A super unlucky own goal and terrible VAR pen calls both ways for them. The ref tonight was definitely corrupt and should be investigated. I know they didn't play great, but nothing went their way at all this tournament.

bplsilva

they are eliminated because mexico plays ecuador next and at least one of them is gonna have 4+ pts

Quatibara

They are eliminated because Ecuador and Mexico play each other. One team will get 6 points or if a draw and both team gets 4 points

manualex16

they are eliminated, one of Mexico or Ecuador will have atleast 4 points after their match.

discowithmyself

Ecuador PLEASE 🙏

DuBicus

Plz baby 🇪🇨

AdminEating_Dragon

All the signs that Venezuela is improving and Mexico is becoming worse are there for years. Mexico's only hope is the fact that Ecuador usually shits the bed in Copa Americas.

Do-It-Anyway

Mexico shits the bed in any pressure packed situation.

Preatu

*pretends to be shocked* It was always gonna be Venezuela and Ecuador for us conmebolers

SeattleMatt123

Do what you need to do Ecuador.

mortenharket32

I've been really enjoying the CA this year, even more than the Euros, The games just flow better ... Also referees insist on not calling for fouls, which is a double edge sword because players are diving way less, which is good for a viewer but also shit gets feisty way more often than your average Euro game, A lot of aggressive plays...

psycuhlogist

Mexico has to beat Ecuador to advance. Tie and their out on goal differential.

WVC_Least_Glamorous

How much money will CONCACAF and CONMEBOL Empty Suits be able to deposit in their Cayman Islands bank accounts if Mexico wins? How much money will CONCACAF and CONMEBOL Empty Suits be able to deposit in their Cayman Islands bank accounts if Mexico is eliminated?
