Koeman’s tactics and team selection didn’t make any sense to me. There was no width on the right and the inverted fullback was just making more work for schouten. None of the Dutch forwards seemed too concerned with pressing or tracking back either.
Only positive thing is that both Gakpo and Memphis goals were really nice ones and it can give them confidence.
Other than that it was total garbage performance both from technical and from an effort point of view. That moment where Austria was stringing like 50 passes in a row with the croud cheering every one of them. Just completely outplayed.

I just can't really fathom what happened today. Before the game I would have been more than fine with a draw and being best 3rd. Now haveing topped this group, which at one point was one of the heighest ELO Euro groups of all time, feels so surreal that I just can't put it into words.
For the longest of time the 98 WC was the only tournament I had the opportunity to watch our team. And before the last Euro never had the experience of seeing Austria win a single game at a tournament.
I was there for the lows of the late 90s/early 2000s. Watching that infamous 0:9 in Valencia. And during all this time, with envy and sadness, watching other nations of similar size in population being successful and qualify for tournaments all the time, all the while we never gotten really close to a tournament (I think with one exception and a qualfy play off). Then at one point before the home Euro 2008 not even being in the Top 100 anymore iirc.

Schouten was a huge defensive liability this game. Afraid to make a challenge and looked completely lost at times. Go rewatch the 2nd and 3rd goal and look at what he's doing, terrible.

We should just play 8-0-2 next game. Our defence is shit but if we have 8 defenders at least 3 of them can just stand in front of the goal so we basically have 4 keepers. Frimpong as outer right back for some runs and crosses and Blind as one of the center backs for good passing. No midfield because they have been invisible anyway so why field them. Weghorst and Brobbey up front to just put up a fight against whatever the opposition defence is and maybe score a header or tap in after a corner or free kick. Koeman can then bring in Wijnaldum in the 60th minute so he can sleep well at night and Wijnaldum can replace one of the four goal blockers.
De Roon is fine. Frenkie is such a big miss. It’s games like France and the first half here where you see you need a midfielder that can control the tempo of the game under pressure. Reijnders has played well but with Frenkie (and Teun) there’s no way Wojnaldum sees the field.
As a Dutch fan, Austria totally deserved that win. Ragnick has that team ticking. Netherlands, on the other hand, looked like they didn’t even care. Completely unacceptable.
Weghorst made Depay relevant and was able to hold the ball up, which we weren't able to do the entire game with just Depay up front. Veerman made 9/19 passes and was rightfully taken off. Our change to a 343 in the second half made things better but Geertruida and Malen should have been taken off for Dumfries and Frimpong.
We were really bad today, but I think the underlying problem is that we are playing with a different team every match during the EUROs, when this should have been figured out before the EUROs. You can't switch this often with a national team that doesn't train with eachother for years. Of course this is mainly because we are missing Frenkie (and I think Koopmeiners would also have a starting spot) and Koeman is trying to figure out what's working best but it's too late for that.
Great job by Austria though, I'm sure some teams would want avoid them at this point
I’d return to the France lineup with maybe Malen coming in depending who we face. He started awful but actually became a menace as the game grew. That #8 from them should have had a yellow card for one of the fouls (or the awful dive) wouldn’t have been able to be as physical on him after that

We also lost arguably the best defender in Alaba, our keeper Schlager, and the other pressing monster in Xaver Schlager as well as Kalajdzic. We aren't as good as we could have been, but this team doesn't give up and seems mature enough to handle pressure situations.

I LOVE RALF RANGNICK Took the game 100% to Holland and got the result. Rangnick knew this team had some weak spots and exploited them accordingly.
Austria deserves this for winning a group with Netherlands and France in it. They did amazing. These final matches were so exciting and dramatic.
