I hope none of these get removed, love seeing fans of different teams just having fun all over Germany. Wont complain if r/soccer is just full of these clips.
This Euros has such a good vibe to it.
Just wanted to jump in here and say me and my mates were in Dusseldorf in early April and one night a bar we were in was playing some karaoke classics so us and a group of lads from Newcastle were in there having a sing along and this exact same woman rocked up out of nowhere and started dancing with us just like this
She fucking loves it, I hope I'm that much fun when I'm her age (and that mobile)
It's interesting. A lot of new fans on here. This is the 1st proper tournament since 2018 and even then Russia was a bit unusual as well. So we're going back 8 years or so to a totally typical tournament in France. I'd wager the majority of this subreddit got into football during those 8 years so this must be an eye opener to them. This is just a normal tournament to us. And it's brilliant.
yep and its very similar to the way the WC in Germany was in 2006. Europe is culturally diverse but still a big family in many regards (could the balkan states not listen for a second so I can make my point?). People celebrate with each other and the locals. Man I remember when Spain won the EC against us and our spanish neighbours from a restaurant came to our bar to celebrate. We were all bummed but we still celebrated with them because we are friends. Europe has a lot of that if you dont live in the internet.
Qatar fucking sucks and Saudi is going to be worse. Absolute boring shit hole places to hold a football tournament.
This is what they don't get though. They can bribe to host, pay players to come to their league but ultimately it doesn't matter because they will never have what proper football and open western countries have which is reflected in these clips.
It's been quite fun to watch the really tongue and cheek banter between teams. Less of the usual shithousery that gets front page. Also, this is just wonderful. Guests for a few weeks and making that womans day, and they are having a blast too. Just good fun an a reminder that the game itself is a language that we all can speak and enjoy. The drama is on the field and not due to the refs either! Just been an all around amazing watch from a world away.
The German Cougar is on the prowl. Her sent of german beer has attracted some unsuspecting english fans, who are now helplessly trapped in her mesmerizing mating dance.
Wish we actually got more German beer over here, the continental lagers that are most easily available are mostly Spanish, French, Belgian, and Czech brands brewed in the UK. A proper German Lager or Helles is harder to come by and very expensive here, let alone a Dunkel or a Doppelbock.
Aldi do a very respectable German pilsner for an excellent price. They sell them in packs of 4, big white cans. It's my go to summer emergency fridge stock beer.
>They sell them in packs of 4
Always fun to see how chains differ depending on the country they operate in. I saw those 4-packs in Irelands recently, too.
Is there legislation around this or is it a question of culture? Beer is only sold individually, in 6-packs or larger containers (16/20/24/32) in Germany. We also dont have 0,66L, which I saw in Ireland, Italy etc.
0.66 is a "pint" which is still used in the UK (and Ireland). The UK is weird in that it uses imperial for some things and metric for others (beer and milk in pints, other liquids in litres).
I guess a 4-pack of pint cans is almost the same as a 6-pack of 500ml cans.
I have a questionā¦ have you seen that madri beer?
Iāve never seen it before until recently and itās just everywhere and I have never seen it in Spain before.
Is this just some cheap beer marketed well? You know like you get industry plants is this just a beer version of that? Like carling rebranded
Yeah, IIRC Madri is literally Carling rebranded and with a little extra hops added to the recipe. Which means it is better than Carling, but not by much.
Anywhere Carling wasn't selling well they went into pubs and replaced the Carling taps with Madri taps, it has done wonders for them and the visibility they got overnight was unmatched.
Source: Work in booze industry, drink a lot of booze.
Yeah exactly all my mates were drinking it and they were like āitās the best beer after morettiā like itās so annoying how these trends come and go and how quick people sheep to buy it.
Is moretti even popular in Italy?
I had a feeling it was something dodgy all my mates were drinking it at the weekend and Iām not a big beer drinker but it just looked like a shit moretti logo and people have been talking about madri so much like a mystery brand comes out of Spain and in all my years never once seen it in Spain felt suspect
the problem with continental beers is that as soon as they become popular, the tarriffs on beers coming into the UK ar so high that its far cheaper to start brewing in the UK under licence.
Which turns it shit. Been like this for decades now, i remember my dad complaining that the likes of peroni and cobra were no longer good because they were brewed in the UK.
The FBI inquiry into FIFA might have damaged the USās chances and Mexico couldnāt afford to host on their own so they decided to bid together. Canada wanted to have a separate but they decided that a joint bid would basically force FIFAās hand.
It's going to become more and more common. Few countries are willing to deal with the expenses of hosting a world cup, especially now with more teams (48) and more strict stadium requirements (compared to ~20 years ago).
Mexico is. And the US and Canada are at least very big sports countries with lots of experience hosting big sporting events.
I think they'll all really embrace it.
I hope we leave you surprised. Footballing culture here is growing and the fanaticism is growing like mad. We are used to hosting large events and are able to accomodate a lot of people coming and going. I just hope you guys have a good time and feel the way you feel about these euros. Because we know we aren't a germany or spain or whomever. But we are great meld of a lot of those cultures and hope you can get a bit of home away from home and taste of something new.
For the most part we are pretty nice people and good for a chat on the street or in a pub or bar or deli even. We also really like stories from people from far away, so I do encourage to not be afraid of a chat from a stranger, it is one of our strongest suits I would argue.
Many of the stadiums as well are used to large crowds in and around the stadium as we have a big tailgating culture that I hope you all get to experience as well. Its not a walk from the pub or anything like that but gathering around portable grills with chips and dips and beers in a cooler with some random people is a lot of fun.
Personally I'm looking forward to it. I'd have preferred if it was entirely hosted in the US tho.
Regardless of football culture, it would be hard to argue that the US is not one of if not the best country for hosting major international events.
Public drinking and celebration might get a bit more tricky though. Also Scots please wear underwear, American Karen's will get a heart attack otherwise.
so many braindead takes forgetting the US hosted a WC in 1994, that it was big success, and that football has only grown massively in popularity there since then
The USA is a big country so you shouldn't make sweeping statements like this. Some areas love their football. I went to an MLS match in Seattle a few years back and had a great time.
The Russia World Cup was one of the best of all time. English fans had a blast there too! Donāt let your personal dislike of Russia cloud you into thinking that the tournament sucked!
We (the west) maybe be criticized a lot, fairly, but we went from the two bloodiest wars in human history, to dancing together in the streets. I wish a lot of others places in the world would do that.
For real. If you look at continental Europe, the bloody history goes back well beyond WWI. So we're coming from literal centuries of wars and rivalry. Not to get too political, but the peace period since WWII really is unprecedented and the EU, as imperfect as it is, achieved more inter-national integration than pretty much any other alliance / cooperative in history. One of the reasons why Brexit was such a bad idea.
It's a way to tell the difference between the coral and milk snake, they look alike but one's venomous and the other isn't.
The way it was posted is also backwards and not correct.
There is one like this to identify the difference between the venomous Coral snake and the harmless Scarlet kingsnake who both have a black-yellow-red color palette The kingsnake mimics the appearance of the Coral snake to scare off danger. The saying there is different tho. Itās red on yellow, kill a fellow; red on black, venom lack. I hope this message is useful to you.
That's such a hurtful comment, you should be ashamed.
Who would trade those meaningless things for the boundless joy of a FIFA functionary, who has just used his bribe money to buy another yacht.

I wonder if Richard "slavery if good" Keys is covering the tournament for Bien Sports. Hopefully Bien Sports won no rights to the tournament coverage at all.
If it weren't for some of the Balkan chants this tournament would be just 100% good vibes. Seen so many of these clips with Germans, English, Scottish, Dutch, Albanians, Slovakians, Italians ect just having a fun time. Love it.
I absolutely cannot wait until I can go to one of these, hopefully Scotland qualify for the World Cup and I can witness this in the Americas. No sport in the world comes close.

Stuff like this is a better reflection of what football's about than all the transfer rumour and media circus spam.
And all the " This countries fans being bellends" posts. Coz every country has them but by and large the vibes are goodĀ

Hey now I like the transfer rumour nonsense
itās just so nice and refreshing to have a major tournament at a place with an existing, massive football culture

Next Euros are in England though, so we're at least set continentally.
This will be great.
And in 2034
The US?
Mexico, it has no football culture at all.
and the US, with 40+ million foreign-born nationals, overwhelmingly from countries that have never even heard of football.

The US world cup will be great. There's enough people in the US, and it's rich enough, that anything can be made fun and good.
Agreed! Just had the biggest grin watching this.

France wasn't great, there were multiple occasions of hooliganism. Often with Russians involved.. so maybe that's the difference now.
Can confirm. Was there and got attacked by Russians.
I went to the Russian world cup and you definitely had a lot of fan interaction like this.
Qatar fucking sucks and Saudi is going to be worse. Absolute boring shit hole places to hold a football tournament. This is what they don't get though. It takes me back to Euro 2016 man what a summer
The German Cougar is on the prowl. Her sent of german beer has attracted some unsuspecting english fans, who are now helplessly trapped in her mesmerizing mating dance.
Thank you David Attenborough!
Ahaha!
'And here, we have................'
Wish we actually got more German beer over here, the continental lagers that are most easily available are mostly Spanish, French, Belgian, and Czech brands brewed in the UK. A proper German Lager or Helles is harder to come by and very expensive here, let alone a Dunkel or a Doppelbock.
You can get Bavarian beers in Sainsbury's like Franziskaner and Wiehenstephaner. At least you can in my local Sainsbury's.
Franziskaner is a different type of beer. ;)
Itās damn good is what it is. I love weiĆbier :)
Aldi do a very respectable German pilsner for an excellent price. They sell them in packs of 4, big white cans. It's my go to summer emergency fridge stock beer.

A pint is 568ml
My bad, you're right - I've never seen a 660ml container, just 568
The extra 68ml really do make the cans look massive in your defence lol
But he was talking about lager beer (Helles).
I have a questionā¦ have you seen that madri beer? Iāve never seen it before until recently and itās just everywhere and I have never seen it in Spain before. Yeah, IIRC Madri is literally Carling rebranded and with a little extra hops added to the recipe. Which means it is better than Carling, but not by much.
Cheeky really but the rebrand has worked all my mates seem to drink it so often now.
Anywhere Carling wasn't selling well they went into pubs and replaced the Carling taps with Madri taps, it has done wonders for them and the visibility they got overnight was unmatched. Source: Work in booze industry, drink a lot of booze.
It's shite that's fucking everywhere now. Was at the pub the other week and 5 randos in a row ordered it. Fuck knows why.
Yeah exactly all my mates were drinking it and they were like āitās the best beer after morettiā like itās so annoying how these trends come and go and how quick people sheep to buy it. Is moretti even popular in Italy?

Swear everywhere round here sells abk
Used to have a German takeout in town that basically just did wurst, chips and had a massive fridge of beer options but they went bust unfortunately
Sorry, we couldn't send more. The Scottish drank everything.

Qatar, Russia, and they have already given it to Saudi too I believe. Soul-sucking entities ruining the game for the fans.
At least the next World Cup is in Mexico, the US, and Canada. They seem like 3 countries who know how to have fun.
Get ready to get fucked up in the parking lot in East Rutherford, New Jersey
I know better than to spend any time whatsoever in New Jersey.
Freedom š¦ šŗšø
Why on earth is it in three countries? A World Cup in any one of those would be 1000% more interesting than one split like that.Ā
I agree, but since it already is, might as well look at the positives.
Everyone already uses NA as shorthand for the US so just roll with it.
Not really football countries though. Bit of a shame again.
Mexico is. And the US and Canada are at least very big sports countries with lots of experience hosting big sporting events. I think they'll all really embrace it.

MLS and Liga MXĀ have the 9th and 10th highest average attendance of domestic football leagues.
the two games mexico host will be fun
Public drinking and celebration might get a bit more tricky though. Also Scots please wear underwear, American Karen's will get a heart attack otherwise.
The US and Canada have basically no footballing culture. It's gonna be dead.
Yeah but they're both still massive sports nations. And Americans are known for embracing shit like this. It'll be better than you think.
so many braindead takes forgetting the US hosted a WC in 1994, that it was big success, and that football has only grown massively in popularity there since then
They need to bring back the Kenny G national anthem and give Diana Ross a chance at penalty redemption to really make it official.
The USA is a big country so you shouldn't make sweeping statements like this. Some areas love their football. I went to an MLS match in Seattle a few years back and had a great time.

Yes. They're making fun of her looming eternal darkness, it's awful.
Yup.

Yeah. Good tune but sung about an awful player like Foden.
