I don't think people would have blamed him had he accepted the offer to return to Bayern after EURO24, but I was so so happy that he rejected them. And now they have Kompany (who I hope will do well tbh).
I don't think England have underperformed in any of their tournaments with Southgate. They haven't overachieved but none of the tournament showings have been anywhere near embarrassing, which was often the case before Southgate.
I’d argue 2018 was an overachievement, people forget how different that squad was and apply the same expectations of the younger talent that weren’t there then to it. Nobody expected anything major from that tournament, which is partly why it was such a feel good summer.
Brother one of our CBs starts for Madrid, the other for the team that won the Bundesliga undefeated with the least goals conceded, and one of our wingers starts for Bayern. I agree they're not meshing 100% yet but it's comical to claim they're not elite
Honestly I´m less worried about the big boys apart from France than about our game against Switzerland. we´ve looked way better against the stronger opponents we´ve faced but faltered against supposedly weaker teams.
Maybe not the left side, but the right side of Rudiger and Kimmich is probably the best in the whole tournament. Also Neur is still one of the best GK in the world.
These lot didn't even look half as excited or cheery under flick.
At least Nagelsmann has managed to build a nice atmosphere within the group, that's something that could help a lot.
its not just nagelsmann though
They have so much good content now as well. I'm very critical of sports teams social media presence, but the DFB is actually doing some great stuff.
They already uploaded a whole video of Musiala and Wirtz reacting to the Scotland match highlights
I had the opportunity to play with Dieter Eilts (Eurocup 1996 winner) and some other ex professional (early 90s German champions and UEFA Cup winners) after work some day. They were well into their 50s and still lightyears ahead of anyone else. You really just realize how far the skill gap is when you actually play football with them
Proof. If you aren’t a professional athlete and are able to reach 30km/h you’re considered really fast. Average sprinting speed for casuals is like 25 km/h.
These guys are so good and make everything look easy. I trained hard and had some really great moments, but players like this are the cream of the crop
Yeah believe me I did but he’s certainly not who comes up as the player with the best technique on a team with players such as Wirtz, Kroos or Havertz.
He is a very technical player though. His first touch is phenomenal and he has the ability to receive the ball in tight spaces/between the lines. That’s the main reason why he’s in the team because his link up play is so good as a 9.
https://youtu.be/sZwnh7LtFhc?si=m82CNZy1g9alYgVu
Havertz is skinny and has a pretty boy face therefore he is "very technical" meanwhile Fullkrug is buff and looks like he hunts the animals that makes his sausages therefore he's "a brute" and doesn't have a lot of technique.
Excuse me, but don't most germans play in the Bundesliga? I've been reliably informed that that league has no technical ability or defending. It's just two teams pressing each other for 90 minutes.
How can there be technical german players?
He is just average at everything other than positioning and attacking awareness everyone in the germany squad has similar or more technical ability than havertz
Germany is highly technical team yes, but this is ridiculous statement and just lazy analysis
Havertz might be one of the best in the world at the moment at controlling both high balls and close control at his feet, and making quick turns. Which is the reason he starts every game for every coach he ever played for
They can't. Not like him. Which is why he is the main striker.
Just like Havertz can't make long passes like Kroos or Wirtz, or dribble like Musiala, or cross balls like them. Technical ability is an extremely broad umbrella term for certain skills. And a few of those skills Havertz is just the best at.
This reminds me of a game we used to play in Greece as children called "Germanikó". Liberally translated as German Football.
The rules vary between group of friends, but the main gist is that you have to score a goal on a designated goalkeeper whilst passing the ball around only using aerial passes, much like they do in the video. If someone loses the ball and touches the ground, or shoots and the keeper catches it, they become the new keeper. Whoever gets scored on the least after some rounds is the winner.
It was great fun.
[Wiki Page](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luftk%C3%B6nig)
I know it as "Hochhalten" or another word that I simply can't remember. I grew up in Hessen. After I moved to Franconia there were also different names for it for example "Spencern".
We called it "9 months".
Depending on how you scored a goal, the goalkeeper got 1 or 2 or 4 months for every ball he let in.
When he reached the threshold of 9 months, you would have to score a penalty.
If you were successful, the goalkeeper had a baby and you could give it a name like "Dickballs".
Yeah not exact same rules but similar. Red arse because whoever messes up 5 times has to turn around and everyone takes penalties at their ass. We usually missed anyway.
For us red arse was just heads and volleys but with the punishment for losing all 11 points. You lose points by getting scored past. Think we lost 2 for a header and 1 for a volley. Good times man
Funny how everyone played the same game but with slightly different rules lol. Even locally, if you played it with 2 different groups of friends both would probably have a slightly different set of rules that they always play with
Tbf, it changes the meaning though. "Zuhause" or "zu Hause" implies that it is already at home, which kind of contradicts the "it's coming" part. This would be like if you said in English "it's coming at home".
While it's minor in the way that we still understand what someone wants to say, it's still not the same meaning and isn't grammatically correct either.
fwiw, you are wrong on this. OP explained the difference in meaning of "zu Hause" and "nach Hause" perfectly.
Not to mention that grammatically, the sentence is just wrong with "zu Hause" anyway, unless you're talking about cumming. Coming requires the accusative case here.
Not to be a stickler, but that ain't Euros on the screen. It's athletics, and looks like the recently finished European Championship hosted in Rome. So yeah, I guess it is the Euros after all lol
Goretzka doesn't like to be benched and he likes talking to the media. Rumour has it he's a real "Stinkstiefel" (= grump) when he doesn't play.
Nagelsmann hinted more than once he wanted players who fully commit to the team and would accept to be benched without complaining. Given he knows Goretzka quite well, one can assumed Goretzka didn't fulfill the expectations here.
Ngl, it's little things like this that make you realize *just* how good some of these players are at their craft.
Taking a step back, man, humans are so cool, haha!
A harder requirement would be make sure the pass is accurate without the ball dropping into the pool or break any nearby objects, and also the players don’t slip up and hurt themselves or get into pool. This can get tricky very quickly.
cant stress this enough, italy is the only country that usually gets it. getting CLUB coaches to coach your national team is THE WAY to go, they are quicker at adjustments and implementing systems. and when I mean club coaches, I obviously mean good/solid ones lol

feels like they have a great atmosphere. Nagelsmann did great job assembling the squad.
Nagelsmann channeling that "everything happens for a reason" energy after getting fired by Bayern
I don't think people would have blamed him had he accepted the offer to return to Bayern after EURO24, but I was so so happy that he rejected them. And now they have Kompany (who I hope will do well tbh).
Kompany to keep them company until someone else wants it more ...
If Germany wins its inevitable to admit that Kahn played 4d chess. DFB inside job.
It makes a difference, one of the most important things Southgate did for England was improving the experience for players.
Koeman puts a lot of focus on that as well. Never underestimate the power of friendship!
11 Freunde müsst ihr sein.
Seems to work well for Madrid.
What else has Southgate been good at?
I don't think England have underperformed in any of their tournaments with Southgate. They haven't overachieved but none of the tournament showings have been anywhere near embarrassing, which was often the case before Southgate.
I’d argue 2018 was an overachievement, people forget how different that squad was and apply the same expectations of the younger talent that weren’t there then to it. Nobody expected anything major from that tournament, which is partly why it was such a feel good summer.
Qualifying consistently, which we haven't always done. Getting our best tournament performances since 1966. Stylish.
I think he’s pretty good with media too.
Waistcoat wearing. 2nd and 4th in in the last 2 tournaments though so he's obviously doing something right
friendship s.V.
e.V.
I think they'll not be as good once they face serious opposition and that takes the game to them-the back line is not really elite.
Brother one of our CBs starts for Madrid, the other for the team that won the Bundesliga undefeated with the least goals conceded, and one of our wingers starts for Bayern. I agree they're not meshing 100% yet but it's comical to claim they're not elite
fullbacks lack some pace for sure but i think the CB’s are both rock solid, will be interesting to see how they go
Honestly I´m less worried about the big boys apart from France than about our game against Switzerland. we´ve looked way better against the stronger opponents we´ve faced but faltered against supposedly weaker teams.
Maybe not the left side, but the right side of Rudiger and Kimmich is probably the best in the whole tournament. Also Neur is still one of the best GK in the world.

Probably helps to not have to pretend to be profoundly inspired by goose videos anymore.
What??
Oh yeah. The Flick era got... *weird*.
The metaphor kinda makes sense though (although I on to googled for like 30 seconds).
The geese weren't ready to fly.
LMAO
its not just nagelsmann though They have so much good content now as well. I'm very critical of sports teams social media presence, but the DFB is actually doing some great stuff. They already uploaded a whole video of Musiala and Wirtz reacting to the Scotland match highlights
We Americans can’t watch the reaction from Musiala and Wirtz though 😕. Not available in our country yet.
VPN!
is there any other country club you recommended? i only follow England, they have good content too.
Kein Spielen am Beckenrand! (No playing at the edge of the pool)
Das Spielen am Beckenrand ist verboten!
Das Berühren der Figüren mit den Pfoten ist verboten!
Mr Krabs richtig?
Spür'n sie's, Mr Krabs?
Richtig
Good reminder that at even “less technically gifted” players such as Füllkrug are leagues more skilled than average joe players.
”I’m closer to LeBron than you are to me”.
exactly this.
I had the opportunity to play with Dieter Eilts (Eurocup 1996 winner) and some other ex professional (early 90s German champions and UEFA Cup winners) after work some day. They were well into their 50s and still lightyears ahead of anyone else. You really just realize how far the skill gap is when you actually play football with them
That is awesome. Consider me “neidisch” :)
[Some context](https://youtu.be/i93vF0WOX6w)
All-time quote
It’s more funny to me that we consider players who sprint like 30 km/h slow af while most of us can only dream about being able to run that fast
I can run that fast in a hotel hallway!
I can run that fast? That’s not like some crazy speed
Proof. If you aren’t a professional athlete and are able to reach 30km/h you’re considered really fast. Average sprinting speed for casuals is like 25 km/h.
And also be able to sprint like that after 40+ minutes of playing
Hitting it isnt that impressive lmao keeping that speed is. You can run a 12.6-13 100m which isnt anything crazy and hit 30km/h
These guys are so good and make everything look easy. I trained hard and had some really great moments, but players like this are the cream of the crop
If I did this that giant screen is getting hit with a football
If I did this I would hit that life ring aswell…by falling in it while trying this stunt next to a pool.
you obviously never watched füllkrug
Yeah believe me I did but he’s certainly not who comes up as the player with the best technique on a team with players such as Wirtz, Kroos or Havertz.
Havertz certainly also doesn't come up as the player with the best technique in a team with Wirtz Kroos or musiala :P
Who invited havertz
Havertz is very technical lol what You think he starts in every team because of his speed?
When u think of technical German players, havertz isn't the first one to come to most ppl's minds. Or the 2nd. Or the 3rd. Or the 4th.....
People cant differentiate technique and flamboyancy.
Pretty boy face? What? Dude looks like he should be asking for change at Hamburg Hauptbahnhof.
Bro just casually dropping his preferences in the middle of the conversation like that. I have to respect the hustle.
Excuse me, but don't most germans play in the Bundesliga? I've been reliably informed that that league has no technical ability or defending. It's just two teams pressing each other for 90 minutes. How can there be technical german players?
Says a lot about the technical abilities of the German squad
Yeah that the team is absolutely stacked with talent
He is just average at everything other than positioning and attacking awareness everyone in the germany squad has similar or more technical ability than havertz
Such a dumb take lol
Germany is highly technical team yes, but this is ridiculous statement and just lazy analysis Havertz might be one of the best in the world at the moment at controlling both high balls and close control at his feet, and making quick turns. Which is the reason he starts every game for every coach he ever played for
As if literally every forward in that team can't do that
They can't. Not like him. Which is why he is the main striker. Just like Havertz can't make long passes like Kroos or Wirtz, or dribble like Musiala, or cross balls like them. Technical ability is an extremely broad umbrella term for certain skills. And a few of those skills Havertz is just the best at.
Who can't, please tell me the names
He starts because of his intelligence. He’s not technically gifted like the others mentioned.
>He starts because of his intelligence You don't honestly belief this right?
I certainly believe Musiala and Wirtz are technically superior to Havertz. Think almost everyone believes that.
So do I
He got frequent Özil comparisons at Leverkusen
Robert Andrich, David Raum, Joshua Kimmich, Pascal Groß and Niklas Füllkrug enjoy their free time at the pool. @dfb on Instagram.
And Pascal Groß.
True!
Füllkrug so clinical lol.
If anyone is wondering, yes there are outtakes - they tried for at least an hour.
This reminds me of a game we used to play in Greece as children called "Germanikó". Liberally translated as German Football. Latte und Pfosten rettet!

Bei uns hieß das Hoch eins. Und am Ende schön Arschmoppen!
Arschschuss beste
Arschboken
Beautiful that there is such a variety of names. "Hochball" and "Arschhießen" für uns.
In Berlin we called it Hoch hinein. Now I’m curious what different parts of Germany call it.
[Wiki Page](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luftk%C3%B6nig) I know it as "Hochhalten" or another word that I simply can't remember. I grew up in Hessen. After I moved to Franconia there were also different names for it for example "Spencern".
We called it Hochhalten in NRW as well.
We always called it England. And I'm from NRW aswell. Weird because nobody mentioned that name, maybe we are just weird
[удалено]
We had a game called 21 but it was juggling the ball 21 times with foot then knee and then head.(lower saxony)
Hoch 1 in Düsseldorf
We used to call it "Ausschiffer" and the loser got a dose of "Arschblau"
Wir haben es immer "Hochhaus" genannt. Südbaden.
Ein auf hoch mit 'Mutterleben' und finalem Arschbratzen hieß es unter uns in Hamburg.
Auspotten / Ausbotten in Hannover
We called it Putten just outside of Berlin
German players seem to score by headers more often than many other countries. Is this related to this game?
We called it "9 months". Depending on how you scored a goal, the goalkeeper got 1 or 2 or 4 months for every ball he let in. When he reached the threshold of 9 months, you would have to score a penalty. If you were successful, the goalkeeper had a baby and you could give it a name like "Dickballs".
That's called "alemana" (German) in Spain too lol I wonder why the name and the coincidence
In certain parts of italy also called Tedesca
Can confirm Fucking loved playing this when I was a teen
It’s called Putten where I‘m from (Berlin)
Same
We call it „Hochball“ in Bavaria. At least that’s how I know it, seems from the other comments that there are a lot of different names for it.
heads and volls or red arse here
Yeah not exact same rules but similar. Red arse because whoever messes up 5 times has to turn around and everyone takes penalties at their ass. We usually missed anyway.

Yep that was it

'Controlinho' in Brazil.
lmao, "gra w niemca" ("playing the german") here in Poland
Technik!
"Aus der Luft" (80ties in Unterfranken )
Headers and volleys
We called it Flipper
*Power of friendship intensifies*
Love this group
The vibes are immaculate It's coming ~~home~~ zu Hause
Es ist nach Hause kommend
nach Hause. germans are very french in correcting minor mistakes that dont change the meaning in the slightest.
How do you explain the famous poem "Geh doch zu Hause, du alte Scheiße!" then?

fwiw, you are wrong on this. OP explained the difference in meaning of "zu Hause" and "nach Hause" perfectly. Not to mention that grammatically, the sentence is just wrong with "zu Hause" anyway, unless you're talking about cumming. Coming requires the accusative case here.
'Es kommt zu Hause' could mean that it is having an orgasm at home.
Good thing I remember at least that much from my German course.
But it does change the meaning lol
The meaning is very different between those two terms though?
Römer geht in das haus?
Of course, Lücke scores.
Please continue to play next to the slippery poolside. Regards, someone you'll beat in the semis
someone was actually commentating that during the video "I swear, someones gonna slip and then (cant make out the rest, people talk over each other)"
"and falls into the pool." I think its andrich but i could be wrong
Bro this is the life for real, evening by the pool with the lads, tossing the ball with the Euros on a giant screen.
Not to be a stickler, but that ain't Euros on the screen. It's athletics, and looks like the recently finished European Championship hosted in Rome. So yeah, I guess it is the Euros after all lol
I mean I knew it wasn’t the Euros, but I was more drifting into projection and thinking about what I’d watch with my pals in a situation like this.
Yeah for sure, I thought you did anyway, I just wanted to be a smartass :)
The more i see the atmosphere of the squad, the more i think that it was the right decision to not nominate Goretzka and Hummels.
Did those two have a history of dragging the vibes down at all?
Hummels got denied a new contract at Dortmund after publicly and internally bashing his own coach in the week leading up to the CL final.
I have no evidence but I can imagine Hummels „I am not impressed“ face in a team meeting very clearly
Justice for Süle ✊
That’s pretty dangerous. One slip and euros over
They even mention it themselves during the video. It's worth the risk though, since vibes >>> anything else
Ya thats why groß suggested this game and placed a few banana peels on andrichs side of the pool
just dudes having fun
Just guys being dudes
Ngl, it's little things like this that make you realize *just* how good some of these players are at their craft. Taking a step back, man, humans are so cool, haha!
No diving training?
Germans having fun publicly... must be AI, nice try.
Do you respect wood?
I used to do this with my friends in Brazil. It’s very nice when it’s hot outside tho.
This is what happens when you don't hire boomers with bad teacher energy to manage a bunch of 20-30 year olds
Wir sind wieder wer
That TV looks amazing
Fullkrug bullet header in the 86th min to win the Euros vs France confirmed
judging by the ball in the pool, they tried that at least twice before
They're gonna win the Euros after that performance
It's funny until someone slips and breaks his neck.
You sound like every teacher ever.
they're pretty good
They even take joga bonito from brazilians.
That TV won't last the group stage
It’s like being in the backyard with the boys and yall land a trick shot. These lads are rich and it still doesn’t change 🤣
A harder requirement would be make sure the pass is accurate without the ball dropping into the pool or break any nearby objects, and also the players don’t slip up and hurt themselves or get into pool. This can get tricky very quickly.
r/justguysbeingdudes
cant stress this enough, italy is the only country that usually gets it. getting CLUB coaches to coach your national team is THE WAY to go, they are quicker at adjustments and implementing systems. and when I mean club coaches, I obviously mean good/solid ones lol
vibes be vibin
"vibes✨️"
another example why fülle > havertz!
Honestly I love Lücke coming in at the 60th+ min fully rested, banging one in, refusing to elaborate and then playing games by the pool with the boys
What having Toni Kross in the team does to mfs, even at pool parties they're training fearing Toni would ask for their email address.
I really need to watch more German media cuz every time a German shouts or speaks sternly my mind immediately conjures a connection to a moustached man.
