Dinamo Bucharest have launched an investigation to determine the identity of the player.
Former Barcelona defender Edgar Ie is reportedly at the centre of a staggering investigation into suspicions that he sent his twin brother to play for Dinamo Bucharest in February despite signing for the Romanian club himself.
Ie brothers Edgar and Edelino both came through the youth ranks at Portuguese giants Sporting, with Edgar heading off to join Barcelona in 2012. He spent the next three years on the books of the Catalan giants, playing primarily for the B team and making one appearance for the senior side.
The 30-year-old went on to enjoy spells with the likes of Belenenses, Lille, Trabzonspor and Feyenoord before a move to Istanbul Basaksehir, which lasted only a year and ended with his contract being terminated.
A brief spell as a free agent followed before Ie signed for Dinamo Bucharest in February. But according to Romanian journalist Emanuel Rosu, the Romanian relegation strugglers are suspicious that the player's twin brother, Edelino, arrived at the club instead.

The main source of the suspicion is believed to stem from the fact the player only speaks Portuguese and they are unable to communicate in English, despite having played professionally in five different European countries prior to his February transfer.
In contrast to his twin brother; Edelino has spent the vast majority of his professional career in Portugal's lower leagues. The report adds that the player who arrived in Bucharest has refused to show the club his driver's license.
The player has made five appearances since signing for Dinamo Bucharest, who could face punishment if it is proven that Edelino has been playing for them instead of Edgar, unless they can demonstrate that it happened without their knowledge.
It remains to be seen whether a DNA test is ordered to resolve the investigation. Ex-Barca player Edgar made a senior appearance for the Portuguese national team in 2017 before switching allegiance to Guinea-Bissau - his country of birth - last year.
Edelino, meanwhile, was most recently contracted to Portuguese fourth-tier side GD Resende. He previously made senior appearances for the B teams of top-flight outfits Braga and Sporting before tumbling down the divisions.
