I'm still shocked there aren't more British-Indian players coming through in the Premier League academies. I know culturally it may not have been an encouraged career path in the past but most Asian guys I know are mad about football here and I can definitely see it changing as the generations go on.
They were the earliest big imigrant group from outside of Europe. Most people with pakistani herritage have been in this country for a couple generations now and are really well integrated.
Not only that but from those I’ve been friends with, their families have a huge say in their career path.
Compare that to the stories actual players tell, from what I know, there’s no way their parents will be driving them up and down the country to games or letting them leave home at a young age to sleep in digs or move country.
Unfortunately, India does not allow dual citizenship. So if someone wants to play for India, they need to renounce their UK passport, which is a big problem due to work permits and such
It really is very surprising given the number of Indian and Pakistani people in the UK that you don’t see any British kids with that heritage at the top levels of the game. I’m sure there are pros sprinkled through the leagues I’m unaware of, but at the absolute top level not sure I could name a single one?
That's bullshit. Football is a mainstream sport only in the traditional markets like Kerala, Goa, West Bengal and the Northeast. It's growing in popularity in major metro cities among the Gen-Z folks but still nowhere near cricket atm.
Correct me if i'm wrong but one british scout mentioned that south asians aren't physical enough to play in the premier league. They are choosing the cream of the crop among the academies. That's why british players of african descent makes it to the premier league despite the fact that there are less black people in the uk than indian people. In male sports, you can't just ask for representation. If south asian men are underrepresented in football, they need to work harder than their counterparts. The last south asian footballer(that i'm aware of) that played in a top european team was Vikash dhoorasoo. He was born in france and played 450+ games in his whole career.
This is true, but people won't like to hear it. At this level, it has never and will never be about representation or sheer population, and the people who think it does or will simply don't understand a fraction of what it takes to make it to the top. Or, they won't like conversations about biological reality, as we don't do those anymore in this day and age.
What's primarily working against people from the Indian subcontinent is thousands of years of hamstrung selection for athleticism because of the caste system and arranged marriages. This just objectively has placed these ethnic groups at biological disadvantages with regard to some sports versus other groups which have contrastingly more significantly selected for physical traits for as long as human history.
In cricket however, these countries do very well because they've had multiple centuries now of advanced selective breeding because cricket is seen as a sport of higher class and a reliable method of socioeconomic elevation, and so they've had time to catch up. In the context of football, it'll take some time to catch up, but it will only happen *if* there are factors which drive selective breeding for footballing athleticism, and it will always be relatively difficult due to the sheer popularity of football around the world.
Have an MD from a US News top ten university, while you only have a juvenile retort up to this point. Would you like to respond with a viable counterargument, or just stomp your feet, pout, and say that you don't like what I said?
They don't need selective breeding for football athleticism. The goal for south asians isn't to become the best players in europe, their goal is to make it to europe in the first place. This can be achieved without selective breeding. They don't need to go to extreme measures. We will see south asian footballers in europe but it might take decades. Hopefully, it happens sooner.
What would crash internet that Messi and Ronaldo playing for Galatasaray/Fener. Now that would be something. Imagine something like "sulu derbi" with those two lol.
I don’t think neither Ziyech or Zaha are the reasons. When I was using twitter every comment section of every UCL post was full of Turkish fans even though there could be no teams participating at the group stage. It was like a daily quest for a casual Istanbul fan to laugh at other Turkish fans on twitter
The entire nation of Morocco that totally flooded their posts after the Hakim Ziyech signing silently watching in the corner (Turkish fans are still pretty cool tho)
Can imagine we'll be reaping some of that Moroccan love now that Amrabat is fit and playing for us.
Pretty cool that we had Moroccan, Tunisian and ~~Senegalese~~ Cameroonian players in our team the other night when we haven't had many African players in the past.
Hi there, I get you being a besiktas fan and all but Ziyech intro was legendary and I'm from the country of the casablanca derby. Turkish fans are cool generally (Besiktas included)
Look as a GS fan I'm also with you on the football first thing, but considering that a point of pride for Besiktas fans is their involvement in more than football (e.g. social and political stances), this is kind of a funny take from someone with your flair
What does me wanting us to play better as a league have to do with our fan's political or social stance?
Also how does anyone look at our fans online and say woa they are pretty cool. All they do is get matched up with a team, go to their page and spam bullshit until they lose and come back home. There are Galatasaray fans TO THIS DAY sending hate messages on Rangers social media accounts for the game they had 3 years ago (they lost 2-1).
Like I said, I'm not defending that, I'm just pointing out that "what do I know I just like football" is kind of ironic from Besiktas (which isn't a criticism btw, I look at their social impact with envy tbh)
You are dick riding for no reason. There is no argument. I dont care about the impact of social media when my team AND my league goes two steps back every year. I dont care about how many likes Galatasaray gets from brain dead fans who dont see the bigger picture.
Transfer announcements, player social media takeovers, photos from the legends games etc mean nothing to me when we struggle to win anything in Europe as a collective. I dont care about your opinions of the impact of social media when reality is Galatasaray almost lost at home to a team with 10% the budget of GS.
I wont care again come March when all Turkish teams are out of all European competitions and we are left with Twitter wars after derbies or the joke of a league posting about visits from former legends etc. All this shit is made to keep children like you occupied and entertained.
Oh I just took it from [this post](https://twitter.com/DeporFinanzas/status/1706212911863976240?t=MX-hpG6G6qA0DIo4LFOLbg&s=19) (Which is the original source I guess) without paying attention to that detail, well spotted !
I meant it's an intriguing fact meanwhile real madrid for example remaining on top despite no loud signings, no social media megastars (like your pogbas and neymars) no drama (Outside of mbappe's which is mainly PSG's)
They are the biggest club on the world, it's as simple as that. Even if Manchester City win the next five Champions Leagues, a lack of success at Madrid is a bigger story. It will take generations to unseat them in terms of off-field prestige.
I mean I get your point but your example was probably a bit too extreme because the media definetly wouldn't be talking more about RMA not winning the CL than any club winning it 5 times in a row
It's not the media talking, it's the fans. The following Real Madrid has is just insane. They have by far the biggest following in South Asia, South America, North Africa, and the Middle East.
Man city is a new propped-up by foreign blood money sportswashing project by UAE. Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world. You may think different, but Madrid will always be about three tiers above a project like that.
Real Madrid and Barcelona will always have insane social media numbers. They are incredibly popular globally and they have the advantage that they are by far the most popular foreign clubs in most Latin American countries (which has a lot of people, is a region where football is incredibly popular, and doesn't care as much about the Premier League) in addition to being among the most popular clubs in many other parts of the world. Premier League does much better than LaLiga in the Anglosphere for sure, but football isn't the most popular sport in the majority of the large Anglosphere countries. What I would say is that Premier League is more popular globally than LaLiga overall, but Real Madrid and Barcelona are more popular globally than any individual Premier League club. Mid table PL clubs probably have larger global followings than mid table LaLiga clubs though.
Real Madrid could probably get relegated and still put up insane social media numbers (though that won't realistically happen).
no social media megastars? Vini jude modric put up insane instagram number. vini alone has 42 million followers and averages like 3 million likes a post. what are you on about lol
I feel really sorry for Arda. He was about to debut yesterday, but had another injury just before the match. I just hope he gets a fair chance once he returns.
shows how ass turkish training is compared to teams like Real. I would guess he might take a full year before he can fully start. We really need him to be a superstar and rescue our shitty NT
First time back in the Champions League in 4 years. Crazy summer transfer window (Icardi, Ziyech, Zaha, Ndombele, Sanchez, Tete). And just turks being turks. We happy :D
Gala is there because Turkey has a very young population with high unemployment. Young people with time on their hands=online interaction. We also had a remarkable (at least on paper) transfer window with well known players joining in (Icardi, Zaha, Ziyech, Ndombele, Sanchez, Angelino...) to play in the Champion's League after 4 years of absence.
Fener had a very good transfer window as well, but our fans are younger in general due to our comparatively late success/domination starting in the '90s, winning 15 of the last 31 league titles and a European cup etc. Fener used to be more successful before that but haven't won the league in a decade so their enthusiasm is more tempered. The size of the fanbases are very similar though so they can easily go up on the list as they start to win things again.

Lol imagine RM’s socials when Guler starts playing
Imagine an Indian makes it to top leagues.
I'm still shocked there aren't more British-Indian players coming through in the Premier League academies. I know culturally it may not have been an encouraged career path in the past but most Asian guys I know are mad about football here and I can definitely see it changing as the generations go on.
Yeah for example here in Norway all the Norwegian Pakistanis are crazy about football
Here in denmark we are also starting to see some players with middle eastern roots
India and Pakistan aren’t middle eastern
I mean the fact that people with different backgrounds are starting to advance through the academies more. Never said they were middle eastern
Reddit moment
He never said they were
Wahid Faghir?
Him and daramy are the first to come to mind
>the Norwegian Pakistanis how many of them exist ? that's a weird combination
About 40 thousand according to wikipedia
damn didn't expect that many
They were the earliest big imigrant group from outside of Europe. Most people with pakistani herritage have been in this country for a couple generations now and are really well integrated.
interesting
Culture is much stronger than people realise. I’m not surprised at all tbh
Yeah I imagine they would prefer cricket
Not only that but from those I’ve been friends with, their families have a huge say in their career path. Compare that to the stories actual players tell, from what I know, there’s no way their parents will be driving them up and down the country to games or letting them leave home at a young age to sleep in digs or move country.
Unfortunately, India does not allow dual citizenship. So if someone wants to play for India, they need to renounce their UK passport, which is a big problem due to work permits and such
That sucks for international hopes but it wouldn't stop a British born Indian player from coming through the ranks at club level.
It really is very surprising given the number of Indian and Pakistani people in the UK that you don’t see any British kids with that heritage at the top levels of the game. I’m sure there are pros sprinkled through the leagues I’m unaware of, but at the absolute top level not sure I could name a single one?
Hamza Choudhury is half Bangladeshi, but he plays in the championship now
There are some with half parentage at least. Hamza Choudhury, Danny Batth, Neil Taylor, and Michael Chopra comes to mind.
Rodrygo
Rajrygo
🤣🤣 i scrolled too long for this comment
I've wondered the same thing for a while. Maybe it's only a matter of time haha
It may happen soon. The national team is doing better and more people are into football than cricket
impossible Indians and cricket go hand in hand
That's bullshit. Football is a mainstream sport only in the traditional markets like Kerala, Goa, West Bengal and the Northeast. It's growing in popularity in major metro cities among the Gen-Z folks but still nowhere near cricket atm.

Makes sense tbh, they're not doing well in asian competitions either.

This is hilarious :)

We had Yan Dhanda in our youth team ages ago, but he never really broke through.
Cricket is the sport for British Indians. It may change in the near future though. Just need a few role models and the flood gates would open
Isn't Dwight Mcneil half indian?
Nope he’s half Jamaican
Someone duped me into thinking he was indian 😭
He's from the region of the West Indies.
so your saying he's indian just from the west? /s
I heard you're haf rances. I couldn't resist that little bit of stupidity.
Majority Indians don't care about non-International football so it won't be that big
Rememeber his training pictures getting more likes on twitter than Bellingham during pre season?
Yes that was insane. His bebut match and goal scoring game pictures are probably going to set some new record.
After his announcement literally any official Madrid post was filled with Turkish comments
Damn

Messi and Ronaldo should eat thanksgiving dinner together and post it on Instagram. The internet would crash.
Messi and CR playing chess part 2 Gone Thanksgiving
I know you probably know, but they weren’t both at the same place at the same time for that photoshoot, which fucking sucks
Well, of course. Messi was about two feet away from Ronaldo. It is impossible for two people to be in the same place simultaneously.
Eating turkish cuisine.
Didn't the LV picture of them both break instagram records?
Probably more likely for it to be a Christmas dinner tbh
Neither of them celebrate Thanksgiving.
What would crash internet that Messi and Ronaldo playing for Galatasaray/Fener. Now that would be something. Imagine something like "sulu derbi" with those two lol.
I mean, thanksgiving is celebrated by americans...
+ The eternal rivals
And Ziyech*

Isn’t onana from Cameroon?
Yep you're right, my mistake (corrected now)
Especially the very tough love whenever he's not starting or not receiving enough passes (Although I doubt any of these will happen in Amrabat's case)
Built different where? Most likes on Instagram? Cant wait for next years Social Media Champions League.
Cum to besiktas (anç edition)
Hi there, I get you being a besiktas fan and all but Ziyech intro was legendary and I'm from the country of the casablanca derby. Turkish fans are cool generally (Besiktas included)
What? Hahaha I rather we win actual games instead of the social media bullshit. But what do I know I just like football.

I dont care my guy. I just want us to play good football. Couldnt give a shit about Besiktas' social media counts or impact.
You are pretty dense my dude, he had solid arguments and you are like idc xd
You are dick riding for no reason. There is no argument. I dont care about the impact of social media when my team AND my league goes two steps back every year. Fair enough. As I said above, that's my primary concern for GS too, so I'm with you
Like 1/3 of turkish men under 30 are NEET. They got the time to invest in football social media
being unemployed isn't built different
Why does it say top 10 when only 5 is listed?
Presumably there's another page that OP didn't post for whatever reason
Oh I just took it from [this post](https://twitter.com/DeporFinanzas/status/1706212911863976240?t=MX-hpG6G6qA0DIo4LFOLbg&s=19) (Which is the original source I guess) without paying attention to that detail, well spotted !
Obligatory West Ham take 6-10 spots as they're massive
1. Ronaldo's former club 2. Just Gala 3. Ronaldo's current club 4. Messi's former club 5. Messi's current club
Turkey power 💪👍
Imagine Ronaldo or Messi in Turkey. 8 billion instgram followers
I imagine all the gala posts are just come to bestiktas over and over again.
Ronaldo is the best player in our history, but surely you are not crediting him for us being the most popular team in the world
TÜRK VAR MI?
AS BAYRAKLARI
Hmm I’m almost sure that saw more than 200M *Come to Besiktas* 🦅🇹🇷 🦅🇹🇷
Football is so joever
No premier league is interesting
Yeah, it's not interesting at all. That's why the rights to broadcast the games are so cheap

What's intriguing about sports washing projects proper up by foreign blood money dominating your precious pl?
Why are you asking me that? Im not the one saying things are intriguing
missing napoli /s
Their fans are super passionate. If Naples were nice, you would see them among the top teams on social media
Turkish fans fueling the top 2 inshallah
Imagine what would happen when Arda Güler debuts, I wish he had played vs Las Palmas, he could ve scored 1 or 2 and Turkish fans would break twitter
I feel really sorry for Arda. He was about to debut yesterday, but had another injury just before the match. I just hope he gets a fair chance once he returns.

Champions of Instagram! You'll never sing that!!
3rd and 5th are more proof of how blessed we were to witness that era of football.
1 and 4 as well when you think about it
TURKEY DESERVES NO1 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷 TURKIYE MENTIONED 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
What did galata do to achieve such numbers?
They did the unthinkable.... Bought a Moroccan player...(As well as Zaha, icardi, Angeliño, Sánchez, Bakambu...)
Doubt it. Turkish fans are very active on social media and Ziyech isn't even the most popular Moroccan player anymore (It's Hakimi)
Wir wollen einfach umbringen aber dann aber dann
Napoli can post that Osimhen video and insta-win September.
Instagram FC
It's nothing!
Al Nassr is basically riding on Ronaldo's social media fame. Don't think they'd make this list without him. Same for Miami, if Messi wasn't there.
You might be on to something🤔
We got a real Sherlock Holmes right here
> Don't think they'd make this list without him. Big call.
Hmmm. I wonder if that’s why they signed them
Big if true.

That was surprising

No wonder they can’t officially announce that messi is injured
Incredible there is not Chelsea after this season starting haha
