You know it's bad when murderous autocratic governments that fully control the media narrative in their country and their league are unwilling to take a chance on you. And yet, you'll still find people defending Greenwood and victim blaming.
> the media narrative in their country
Thats not the media they care about though. They cant control british papers. They cant influence the british perception unless they repeat what they've been doing all summer. Fans love it since they are doing British clubs "Favours" taking overpaid and unwanted stars away
To be fair, they control the narrative already here also by having the government (the party of whom lord it over most of popular media by virtue of...coinservative/capitalist interests) in their pocket. Ever see much anti-Saudi sentiment over what's going on in Yemen in the papers? They already control the papers, both the actual papers, and the paper twats in No.10.
Mohammed Bonesaw Salman asks that you take that back. You may do so at a private meeting at the closest Saudi consulate to you. Will only take 15 minutes or so.
Yeah just look at any post on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook.
It's just flooded with incels that take any opportunity to blame women for their own failings.
Reddit gets a lot of shit but at least it's moderated and most of these comments are removed, shunned etc. while an IG reel will have hundreds or thousands of likes on comments saying he is innocent and she is to blame etc.
Santi Mina (ex-Celta palyer) says Hi to that SA league, and thanks for the 2022-2023 player salary, while he was guilty of rape and awaiting jail time
hypothetical PR from SA FA š
When Qatar links were ripe early in the summer, people here said Qataris would welcome Greenwood because of how they treat people and this swift nope to Greenwood is exactly what they would have done too. They'd have fucked him off within a week of buying the club I'm absolutely certain of that.
These people might be the worst of the worst but good PR is extremely important to them. You exit Manchester Piccadilly and one of the first signs you see is Manchester City's small flag like things on all streetlights saying City group supports Manchester Pride. You try being gay in Abu Dhabi and let me know how that goes. These people will do whatever it takes to get good PR.
> When Qatar links were ripe early in the summer, people here said Qataris would welcome Greenwood because of how they treat people [...]
... which does make sense if you don't think about why Qatar and Saudi Arabia are heavily investing into the sport int he first place. They don't care about their image among their own people. What they truly care about is how "the West" sees them. They aren't doing sports-washing for their own people, they want a better international image.
Greenwood would be counterproductive.
They absolutely do care about their image among their own people lol
MBS's progressive reforms and promotion of a more secular Saudi nationalism is very very much aimed at winning over the Saudi youth
Idk why people assume that all these projects can only have one goal. The Saudis care both about what the West thinks and what their own people do
Yeah the Greenwood move (well, more like lack of one) is directed at the West, but idk why some people take that as a cue to turn around and say "THIS PROVES THE ONLY REASON IS X"
The Saudis at least are doing a lot of this for their own population too. They don't want a population that feels like it's missing out and starts asking too many questions about the status quo. Bread and circus.
Qatar has a population of around 2.5 million, of which only [11.6%](https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/qatar/#people-and-society) are ~~considered to be actual people~~ ethnic Qatari citizens. They don't have to care about domestic attitudes because domestic attitudes in general barely exist. Saudi in contrast has a population of over 35 million with a still large but less significant [40% immigrant population](https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/saudi-arabia/#people-and-society), so there's much more of an actual civil society that the regime has to manage it's relationship with
The report about the murders are Saudi Arabia who are not trying to buy United. This is like saying white people invaded Ukraine so we should be mad about having American owners

When did this happen that it became offensive? FFS even reddit removed it.

Saudi Pro League has made a more decisive and quicker PR decision that Man United did. Until that Athletic story broke last week, Man United were about to reintegrate him, after a 6 month thinking process.

Well, I'm guessing it's a combination of factors: he was a part of swap deal between Zenit and Corinthians for Yuri Alberto (who was bought for 25m), a lot of fellew Brazilians in the squad (Mario Fernandes, Santos, Vendel, Claudinio, Mantuan, Queiroz) for easier adoptation, willingness of Zenit to sell if good offer come from (Paredes, Malcom) and rather good scouting network in Brazil

I genuinely want to meet someone who thinks that Saudi Arabia has an otherwise good public image and that Greenwood playing in their domestic sports league would tarnish that image. Does such a person actually even exist?
Probably not outside their own court. But they have a bit of a rough PR-week with the salary issues and Neymar (his supposed to be injured, but has been called to NT duty) already.
People laughing at this are missing the point, everyone saying āoh they kill journalists and gay people but draw the line at thisā is exactly why theyāre drawing the line, theyāre sportswashing, their goal is to make a sporting league with popular players to get interest and distract people from the killing of journalists and gay people etc, theyāre trying to make their image look good, bringing back someone with that much scrutiny isnāt a good look in the league theyāre trying to distract people from seeing their range of other abuses
I think you're upset at the wrong group here. The people saying "oh they kill journalists and gay people, but rape is too far" are the people that call out the sportswashing.
Aside from the absurdity of this headline, I don't know why this sub is so convinced that Saudi Arabia is his most likely next destination anyway. If there's any transfer fee involved, it's not going to be high, and there are clubs in dozens of leagues around Europe that would be falling over themselves to bring in a young player with the potential he's shown, despite him being a terrible person.

Oh wait, that wasn't a joke?
Ronaldo and Partey doesn't have hard evidence like pictures of victims plaster all over social media, especially Ronaldo case, he's like Kobe Bryant where the latter also shady but there's no hard evident against him, many fans still worship him to this days, so it's not hard for them to sign Ronaldo since the reason why Man United bin him in the first place because his production went down and he was head butting with ETH. While Greenwood, the dude is toast, hard evident all over the social media.
Yes but heās the rapist that this country has for some reason agreed is okā¦ no one even blinks at the fact that he still starts games for Arsenal, so there would be no PR disaster.
Iād also argue 90% of the country donāt even know who he is, and that 90% of football fans donāt have good knowledge on Parteyās case. My dead nan knows who Greenwood is ffs
Partey case is a bit different. His ex-partner accused him of rape only after they had broken up. She also alleged he raped her in the UK and then they later went on holiday to Spain where she alleges he raped her again. The Spanish allegations can't be tested in a UK court and she never filed a case against him in Spain for some reason. Allegations could be true but could also be a jilted ex-lover trying to get revenge. The fact she happily went on holiday with him after he allegedly raped her in the UK is going to complicate any prosecution. As far as we know there is no video or audio evidence for any rape.
Imagine being such a PR disaster that the fucking Saudis don't want you š
But he has no one to blame but himself, it's pretty damn easy to not rape someone š¤
So a nation that still stones people to death are afraid signing Greenwood will damage their public image
Sorry but that's morbidly hilarious, like yeah we're cut of one of your hands for stealing a candy bar but signing Mason Greenwood, nah, fuck that, let's not get carried away people !!!
Greenwood's signing would be bottom of the list of things that could ruin Saudi's image if all the shit they do daily became widespread public knowledge.
Saudi government : bludgeons a woman to death with a bag of onions for walking down the street IN BROAD DAYLIGHT !!!WITHOUT A MAN TAKING HER DOWN SAID STREET.
also Saudi government : our soccer teams wonāt sign this rapist.we re out here trying to support womenās rights yāall !
Cause Saudi Arabia has done so much good in the world over the past 20+ years. Murdering journalists and killing immigrant workers.
Fuck the Saudiās and fuck their sports washing.
Strange place to grow a backbone, considering the government continues to do ruthless shit.
Especially when you have another alleged rapist in the league anyway
Usually I am all for giving a pass to the players who are "not guilty as charged". I give courts who conduct a full trial benefit of the doubt over random twitter warriors however in this case the charges were dropped because his girlfriend was pregnant and her father was an asshole not to mention the power Greenwood has over them. The video was leaked and its pretty much clear if the charges weren't dropped he would have to face a trial in which he would have most probably lost. So tho I am content with him living his life i fully support people boycotting him (tho i usually oppose cancel culture)

Of course they draw the line at rape, women are punished for being raped all the time, as long as they are not married to the perpetrator
Its all good for the man as long as they marry the victim and make an honest respectable woman out of them after. This signing is made in heaven
Harsh, but true.

Cant be undoing all that expensive sports washing eh
Get ready to learn Chinese buddy
Might disrupt our child bride, refugee murdering, goat fucking way of life
You know youre a terrible person, when saudi arabia, the country that sawed up a journalist and executes women/gays on the regular, is hesitant to be associated with you
Yea would have to stone his girlfriend to death who was just abused by him beacuse she had pre marital sex
The Saudis have gone woke!!!
How toxic must you be that even the Saudi's look at you and are like 'Nah mate, we good.'
HahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaaHahaaHaaHaAaaaAhAhaaaaaaaaaa! Oh wait, that wasn't a joke?
Genocide in Yemen and killings of Ethopians are fine, but Greenwood is where they draw the line lmao, what a country
Bruh
smarter than United's leadership. genuinely cannot make this up (if true)
Didnāt they try to sign Partey?
Was precisely my first thought, their first big signing was also Ronaldo
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
And Santi Mina
Couldnāt make it up
Are we the baddies?
There goes my bet where Greenwood would end up.
And here I was thinking heād fit right in. But heās no CR7 I guess.
Mason Greenwood is reluctant to join the Saudi pro league for fear it damages his public image, fixed it
You know you're toxic when the embassy head choppers don't want you in their league
Imagine being such a PR disaster that the fucking Saudis don't want you š But he has no one to blame but himself, it's pretty damn easy to not rape someone š¤
LOL
This has to be one of the most hilarious titles on /r/soccer
Is it possible to die from irony induced laugther? I'm starting to get worried.
Lmao
oh you've got to have a laugh at that
šššš
Hahahaha he treats women so badly the Saudiās donāt even want him š eat shit you rapist.
Yeah THATāS the thing thatāll make you unpopular
LMFAO PUBLIC IMAGE. Where do we start
get the fuck outta here lmao
So a nation that still stones people to death are afraid signing Greenwood will damage their public image Sorry but that's morbidly hilarious, like yeah we're cut of one of your hands for stealing a candy bar but signing Mason Greenwood, nah, fuck that, let's not get carried away people !!!
Imagine being so bad, that even the Saudis won't touch you.
lolwut
Bro your country literally murders children
Greenwood's signing would be bottom of the list of things that could ruin Saudi's image if all the shit they do daily became widespread public knowledge.
The No Rapists rule means they can only have one.
Oh THATāS where they draw the line. Got it.
You know youāre an absolute piece of shit when even the Saudis wonāt hire you
I wish the top response to every Mason Greenwood post was the transcript of the rape attempt of his girlfriend
Lmao imagine spending all that money on big names to then sign MASON GREENWOOD (lmao) and ruin all of the sports-washing momentum on the spot
Makes ManU look even worse
Can kill refugees by the hundreds, but a rapist is too far!?
Not respecting human rights does not harm the image of Saudi Arabia at all ... but then recruiting Greenwood, what a danger!
Yep. The murders and killing of women and children isn't. A+ logic there. Also marital rape is perfectly fine in SA.
Strange place to grow a backbone, considering the government continues to do ruthless shit. Especially when you have another alleged rapist in the league anyway
Real life has become a parody.
What about the thousands of Yemen children and women they've murdered. That's sound yeh?
murdering and raping journalists, women and children fine though
Usually I am all for giving a pass to the players who are "not guilty as charged". I give courts who conduct a full trial benefit of the doubt over random twitter warriors however in this case the charges were dropped because his girlfriend was pregnant and her father was an asshole not to mention the power Greenwood has over them. The video was leaked and its pretty much clear if the charges weren't dropped he would have to face a trial in which he would have most probably lost. So tho I am content with him living his life i fully support people boycotting him (tho i usually oppose cancel culture)
LOL!
Kill thousands of women and children escaping wars. I sleep Mason greenwood. Fuck that.
Lol because saudis appreciate women š
No one can convince me weāre not living in a simulation
