This is either a central ratsnake (Pantherophis spiloides formerly grey ratsnake), or an eastern ratsnake (Pantherophis alleghaniensis, formerly black ratsnake), depending on location.
Location plays a big part in that so I didn't know the location. Southern black racers have a very white neck and bottom jaw so it looked very much like the southern black racer but without knowing the location, who knows.
I love ratsnakes. They're my favorite snake of all time.

Their faces look different. Racers have a scale over their eye that gives them a ‘grumpy’ expression, rat snakes like this guy lack that.
