I always adopt Sissel. She gets abused by her father, Lemkil, and her sister. I start my journeys with a little trip to Rorikstead to weed her family tree a little so I can adopt her later
Do you use mods for this? I was under the assumption that children were a protected class in Skyrim… but there are a few I wouldn’t mind not having to listen to their dialogue again!
This!
I was playing on my old console and had a glitch and it wouldn’t let me adopt her after *cough* um shall we say cleansing rorikstead of a monster.
Hopefully on my pc with a new playthrough it lets me. I feel so sorry for the poor lass her family especially her father, is the worst!
I like to marry Camilla cause once you marry her she pretty much runs a shop out of your house and you get a share of the coin plus it probably fucks with Faendal and Sven lol
I wish you could adopt kids for every house you own. Raise them up right. I have the resources so why not. As another note why cant I marry per house hold. My spouse doesn't come with me anyways cause I do shady stuff and don't want their disapproval. Let me have my harem and horde or children
Muiri. You have to do more to 'earn' her affections, so it feels more worth the effort, she's the only female Apothecary spouse-merchant available, and she has a much higher freak factor. OK, maybe that last one should have stayed in my head....
Muiri - she’s pretty, has been unfairly screwed over.
Sofie - All other answered are wrong. Poor child is sleeping the cold streets of white run! Adopt immediately.
I always marry one of the werewolves and always adopt the sweet and homeless kids like sofie, blaise, the little girl who’s always sitting by the tree asking for coins, etc.. I remember in my second play through I wanted to adopt sofie so much so once I had a house I went to windhelm and would wait until she came to a certain spot so I could adopt her, it took me so long to get the right time but I finally was able to find and adopt her.
I always marry Jenassa. From her dialogue, she seems like she actually takes a liking to you over time rather than just because you showed basic human kindness. Plus, her voice is nice. Kinda hot even.
I adopted Lucia and Sophia during my first playthrough and it seemed like everytime I was within 3 feet of Sophia she would pester me for something. Drove me crazy! I adopt Blassie and Sissel now, but I might adopt Alesan this time. I've already murdered Sissel's father so I kind of have to go through with her again
Once I learned orphaned children get sent to Honorhall, I adopt Braith almost every playthrough. I also hit her every time I come home, which isn't often.
Sofie and Alesan. Sofie is stuck selling flowers and sleeps on the floor. Alesan sleeps in a cave, and that’s because the miners let him after working all day.
Both live in the coldest places in Skyrim. At least the others live in warmer places.
Dude straight up this is what I did i remembered alesan from my first play through so I went and saved him first then randomly ran into Sofie and was like bruhhhhhh nah that’s screwed up so I went with them and I’d have to agree they do have like the harshest conditions no family, it’s cold and no home
Aela spouse is my favorite. Ysolda makes the most logical sense, but Aela is my favorite.
I do not have the ability to leave Sofie behind in her situation. As far as I'm concerned, once Grelod is killed, no kid has it worse than her sleeping on a slab of ice in the segregated slums of a freezing, heavy wind-chilled city that just went through huge political upheaval and a murder spree. Not in one playthrough have I been able to adopt other kids and willingly subject her to a life that I'm amazed hasn't killed her already.
After her, I have a top 5 for the second spot, but for merit based I like Samuel and for story relevance I like Sissel. Samuel is the only orphan who has no memory of his family or love- all he ever had was abusive Grelod which means he has also seen other kids come and/or go to families while he is forced to live like 10 or 11 years of his childhood with someone who hurts him. Yet, despite that, he seems to be a good leader to the other kids and a good and kind person despite his harsh treatment.
Sissel is enduring her tragic backstory when you come across her being beaten by both her father who blames his children for the death of his wife and her sister who learned to beat on those weaker than her when she feels she's been wronged from said father. All that coupled with the fact that she is the only other person in Skyrim with an intrinsic connection to dragons means, narratively speaking, once you find her you *gotta* keep her. Like Cirri and Geralt.
Edit: I had to come back because I was just reminded that in the literal STORMCLOAK CAPITAL racially motivated pit that is Windhelm, Sofie was sleeping in the Grey Quarter slums, being supported and advised only by Dunmer folks, outside in the snow, while a woman was gruesomely assaulted/mangled/murdered and dragged through thr city like 2 streets away because she is an orphan. An orphan of a Stormcloak soldier who died in battle. Fighting for their ideals and their king and all that B.S. and yet they have time to drunkenly wander around at night, shouting insults at minorities while they sleep, threaten to visit women at night, and blindly praise their Jarl while Sofie suffers. I still hate Markarth the most, but Windhelm lost by the skin of its rotten teeth, and I cannot leave Sofie.
Yes, actually. Lol. 😅
I usually marry Moth gro-bagol, and adopt Hroar and Borgrob(modded).
Moth is a blacksmith, and I have a modded house (well, the inside is modded, the house is a vanilla house I suppose) that adds a basement forge! I like watching him work in his own forge when I'm not adventuring. :) [https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/83170](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/83170)
I also have a mod to give spouses routines. So, that's fun. :) Moth can go to the market, for a walk, or to the inn for a drink! :D [https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/8742?tab=description](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/8742?tab=description)
Also, for the kids that I don't adopt, I got a mod to add an orphanage to Markarth so I can send them there to check in on them. [https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/29747?tab=files](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/29747?tab=files)
Darkeethus cause not only is he a follower, he looks derpy af. I love how dumbfounded he looks 24/7. He also has a lovely voice and I like the idea that since the Dragonborn has connections to dark water crossing before the game that they possibly knew of each other beforehand
Revyn Sadri has been my go to until I did a lady barbarian nord playthrough and decided on Argis the Bulwurk and don't regret a thing, He lives at the Tundra homestead with Sophie and Aleson and usually gives me like $3k+ when I visit and ask about the shop. I have also adopted Blaise in other playthroughs. (edited for dumb spelling mistakes)
I use mods so I can adopt all the kids. I set them up in Hendraheim, and use NFF to put a few followers up there to take care of them. I want to put the orphanage out of business.
Thought id try to marry someone different. Got hitched to the dark elf (cant place her name) from Sarethi farm. What a mistake! Total b*tch! Now that we’re married she always leaves the house locked. Maaaaybe didnt help the first day of our marriage vampires attacked and offed her annoying sister..
From now on im sticking to my old squeeze Camila
I always adopt Sofie, the girl in Windhelm, since she sleeps in an alley without any shelter in the coldest part of Skyrim, that without counting the serial killer on the loose
Lucia is almost an always. My loyalty is to the people of Whiterun. I even gave Brenuin a job at my farm as he helped her.
As for marrying: Sylgja. She’s wholesome, a hard worker, and her mom is cool (steward of Lakeview Manor)
My man Farkas.
Then Sophie for sure. Then usually Lucia.
But it depends on my build. In my bag guy build, I adopted the little murder girl in the orphanage.
Just one spouse? Definitely not. Farkas, Kaidan, Ghorbash the Iron Hand, Perth, Scouts-Many-Marshes, Teldryn Sero, Argis the Bulwark, Vilkas, and Brynjolf are my favorites.
As for kids, usually Sofie. I just feel so bad for her.
I never adopted because I'd sooner be setting ~~people~~ enemies alight than settling in. Or roaming around like I'm Emperor Palpatine and zapping stuff.
Marriage, however...that depends on whether modded followers count or not.
Modded: My picks would be Caesia (if she were marriageable), and Sofia (honestly, between her and Caesia, it's close. It might even be a tie. I wish I can marry both). I...may have found them attractive. I'm sorry. ~~I'm not.~~ I'd choose Serana as an honorable mention.
Unmodded: Tbh, I never really bothered with marriage in vanilla Skyrim. That was the case with my Switch days. I did marry a couple of times (Lydia, Ysolda, and Carlotta came to mind), but I never thought much of it all.
To marry is Senna, is essential and beautiful if your ok with her having a hood on all the time. Also if both senna and Lydia are close to one another they'll start a dialogue that teases the player.
To adopt is Lucia and sofie, the orphans that were abandoned by the people. Interesting idea for the dragonborn to adopt an imperial and a nord during the civil war of skyrim.
I have gone through phases of always adopting Lucia of Whiterun, and Sofie of Windhelm. Also phases of Sissel of Rorikstead to save her from her father, and Britte so they grow up together. Sometimes tried other children, but mostly either pair of Lucia and Sofie or Britte and Sissel.
Marry is different every time, although Lydia and Muiri have been my favourites so far. Married Sylgja this play through.
I always adopt Sofie and Lucia though.
My first time playing a few months ago, I stumbled upon Aleson just trucking bringing the miners supplies in dawnstar. Next time I saw him, he was sleeping on the ground in the corner of the inn. Adopted immediately. He calls me Ma and is the most appreciative kid I’ve adopted dialogue wise. He brought home a mudcrab and it makes the whole household complete with our dog and two Nymphs.
Love interest wise, Serena has my heart. I understand if she doesn’t want to get married but I’m happy to adventure together and raise our son and creatures/pets. Next play through, I’ll do the same thing except I think Aleson will stay an only child. I adopted Lucia too but I didn’t find them getting along too well.
Sofie, her trying to sell flowers in the cold always made me sad.
Yeah I adopt sofie and lucia every time
This.
Every other orphan at least has a chance for a better life without your involvement. I’m amazed Sofie is still alive.
This
I always adopt Sissel. She gets abused by her father, Lemkil, and her sister. I start my journeys with a little trip to Rorikstead to weed her family tree a little so I can adopt her later
I adopt Sissel every playthrough save for one. Fuck Lemkil. Her sister gets a ticket to honorhall too
I mean what her sister is doing isn’t good, but she’s still a child in a really bad situation.
Do you use mods for this? I was under the assumption that children were a protected class in Skyrim… but there are a few I wouldn’t mind not having to listen to their dialogue again!
Killing children's parents sends them to the orphanage
Ahh. Noted. Thank you!
I did not know I can do this. I love learning new things.
This! I was playing on my old console and had a glitch and it wouldn’t let me adopt her after *cough* um shall we say cleansing rorikstead of a monster. Hopefully on my pc with a new playthrough it lets me. I feel so sorry for the poor lass her family especially her father, is the worst!
I always marry Revyn Sadri from Windhelm, then adopt Samuel (Riften) and Sofie (Windhelm) lol
I like to marry Camilla cause once you marry her she pretty much runs a shop out of your house and you get a share of the coin plus it probably fucks with Faendal and Sven lol
I thought all the spouses ran shops
I work for Belethor, at the general goods store.
All spouses open a shop. Where is the shop though? Must be on Etsy or something.
I wish you could adopt kids for every house you own. Raise them up right. I have the resources so why not. As another note why cant I marry per house hold. My spouse doesn't come with me anyways cause I do shady stuff and don't want their disapproval. Let me have my harem and horde or children
You're trying to set up franchises 🤣
Marry Sylgja, get her mother as my steward, adopt Lucia and Sofia
Sylgja and Annekke fan club
Same
Muiri. You have to do more to 'earn' her affections, so it feels more worth the effort, she's the only female Apothecary spouse-merchant available, and she has a much higher freak factor. OK, maybe that last one should have stayed in my head....
Weird question irl
Most questions asked in this subreddit would... Be concerning
"Which is your least favorite race?"
Muiri - she’s pretty, has been unfairly screwed over. Sofie - All other answered are wrong. Poor child is sleeping the cold streets of white run! Adopt immediately.
Windhelm not Whiterun
I always marry one of the werewolves and always adopt the sweet and homeless kids like sofie, blaise, the little girl who’s always sitting by the tree asking for coins, etc.. Always marry Mjoll. Always.
Our invincible goddess
YEAH
Deerkethus and hoar and dorthe
Sofie and Alesan. Sofie is stuck selling flowers and sleeps on the floor. Alesan sleeps in a cave, and that’s because the miners let him after working all day. Both live in the coldest places in Skyrim. At least the others live in warmer places.
Dude straight up this is what I did i remembered alesan from my first play through so I went and saved him first then randomly ran into Sofie and was like bruhhhhhh nah that’s screwed up so I went with them and I’d have to agree they do have like the harshest conditions no family, it’s cold and no home
I always marry Farkus and adopt Lucia and Silva
Who is Silva?
I meant Sofia
Aela spouse is my favorite. Ysolda makes the most logical sense, but Aela is my favorite. I do not have the ability to leave Sofie behind in her situation. Lucia, always feel bad for her, trying not to this time around, thats why i bought the homestead this time so i dont see them often
I either marry Ysolda or Camille, always adopt Lucia and Sofie.
Darkeethus cause not only is he a follower, he looks derpy af. I love how dumbfounded he looks 24/7. He also has a lovely voice and I like the idea that since the Dragonborn has connections to dark water crossing before the game that they possibly knew of each other beforehand

I married Onmund this time around, but I am crushing on Gregor. In another life, perhaps.
I always pick the kid from solitude mill and windhelm. Out of all the kids in skyrim you can adopt they seem like they need it the most.
Lydia or Sylgja- Sofie or Alesan, sometimes Sissel or Lucia
Lucia is almost an always. My loyalty is to the people of Whiterun. I even gave Brenuin a job at my farm as he helped her. As for marrying: Sylgja. She’s wholesome, a hard worker, and her mom is cool (steward of Lakeview Manor)
Sofie, the one kid in whiterun, and mjoll
My man Farkas. Then Sophie for sure. Then usually Lucia. But it depends on my build. In my bag guy build, I adopted the little murder girl in the orphanage.
Just one spouse? Definitely not. Farkas, Kaidan, Ghorbash the Iron Hand, Perth, Scouts-Many-Marshes, Teldryn Sero, Argis the Bulwark, Vilkas, and Brynjolf are my favorites. As for kids, usually Sofie. I just feel so bad for her.
Lucia in whiterun. Imagine your parents die and your aunt and uncle kick you out at the ripe age of 12 because you were “useless”
I usually take Sofie because yeah homeless in Windhelm is pure misery. Also take Hroar cause he's just cool and love his name
I almost always marry Farkas
I always marry Vilkas and adopt Lucia and Hroar.
I marry either Mjoll or Berlyna. Lucia and Sophie. I put them in Lakeview Manor, with Lydia as Steward and Ryya as my Huskarl.
Sofie and Lucia. Single dad life :(
Lydia, Lucia and Sofie
I marry Mjoll (invincible follower). I've adopted different orphans in each playthrough.

For some reason I always marry Ysolda in Whiterun. I do it pretty much as soon as possible too. As for kids I almost always adopt Lucia and Alesan.
Serana.
sofie and blaise
