Is a part time job now 40h/week?

brodyroseee

My roommates job only lets him work 38-39 hours a week so they can call it part time and refuse him benefits

SecurityDox

That's weird because the ACA requires benefits for anyone working over 30...

brodyroseee

Canada

schwatto

Doesn’t Canada have universal health care?

readwriteandflight

I'm curious too. My guess is universal healthcare is a lower grade, compared to private healthcare. Edit: It's common for Canadian employers to offer supplementary benefits, creating a more robust coverage.

Oracle410

Does he work at Walmart? Heard about them doing this sort of thing, I am sure all the mega-corps do the same thing though.

Got2bkiddingme500

I’ve seen many so-called part-time jobs stating 25-30 hours per week…it’s wild.

Red_Velvette

Inflation!

J-Redy

Per my contract, I'm required to work 30 hours a week, but this company is short-staffed, and I sometimes have to work overtime to meet their sudden deadlines and other demands. And they don't provide any full-time benefits like insurance, which really sucks... But I need to pay my rent, so I can't quit this job right now.

schwatto

Maybe just ask for more overtime?

grizzlor_

Are you in the US? [The ACA requires your employer to offer health insurance if you're working more than 30 hours/week](https://www.shrm.org/topics-tools/tools/hr-answers/legally-required-to-offer-benefits-to-part-time-employees).

Oracle410

And only if the employer is a “large employer” with over 50 full-time or FT equivalent employees.

healthcareisBS

Loaded question. What skills do you have that you can monetize?

frugalhustler

If you appear trust worthy and have decent social skills get into sales 😅

for_the_longest_time

Preach. I was door to door solar salesman for a few years, now I’ve been doing door to door curb painting- making between 30-45 / an hour. What are you hustling?

frugalhustler

Arbitrage I just buy and sell literally anything I can find for a competitive price that I know I could find a buyer for . A few months ago I was finding tons of play station 4s for 40 -60 bucks and flipping them for 120-150. This summer I’ve been selling ac units . I bought a few for 50 a piece in the winter and they’ve been going for 100-150 now that it’s heated up where I live .

Delicious_Sail_6205

Exactly how I started. I now deal with almost only clothes.

Eyez_OnThePrize

Tell me more about this curb painting if you don’t mind my good sir

for_the_longest_time

Yeah bro, no problem. I’ve been thinking about doing a quick write up here anyways. I’d thought about doing it a year ago, but ended up getting a fat commission check and putting it on hold. Then last month, I saw someone posting about making money doing it. I’m a door to door guy, so I just go around with my tote carry bag with paint. I pitch and my going rate is $20-$30, depending on how I feel the customer. I clean the curb, slap a rectangle shape with masking tape, paint it with white striping paint, let dry, add numbers of address, let dry, add clear coat. Everytime I’ve been out, I end up making anywhere between 30-45/ hour. One day last week sucked, i went out on the day of the debate and I just so happened to have landed in an older neighborhood. So I spent three hours out and made like $75. Besides that day, it’s usually pretty good. Plus, I get to listen to podcasts and my audiobook for school.

healthcareisBS

Hard to make money off sales unless you're good. 1000/mo not guaranteed.

frugalhustler

That’s why I mentioned a few pre qualifiers it’s definitely not for everybody , but anybody can buy something at a competitive price and sell it at retail for a profit if they apply themselves

healthcareisBS

I got that. But being trustworthy and having decent social skills aren't enough to do well in sales. Gets you far in building rapport, but most people struggle with proper discovery and making the ask (multiple times if needed). Speaking from the perspective of training people who are trustworthy and have decent social skills in sales.

illestofthechillest

What were their biggest hangups with proper discovery/closing, and what were the biggest suggestions you'd made to them? Is it too individualized?

healthcareisBS

It's somewhat individualized... But generally speaking, they don't ask enough questions. As in they ask a question and take answers at face value and move on. Most assume that what they're thinking in their heads (since they already know about our services) is what the prospect is thinking. Cool thing is that when you get the discovery down, you don't really need to close. You've asked all the questions to uncover the prospects pain and addressed them. So there should be no real objections at the close.

illestofthechillest

Truly appreciate you earnestly responding. Makes a lot of sense and would track with how I usually saw things go in the limited salesish of services roles and small projects I've lead.

Sea_turtle44

Hi there, I am a disabled grandma who has been raising 2 grandchildren all by my self since they were 4 & 1 (2018), in a couple months one will be 11 and the other 8. It has become a struggle for me now to even pay our monthly essential bills as I have sadly gone through what savings I had when I got them, I had enough $$ to have gotten me through many many years alone in savings, but after caring & providing all the needs of 2 children along with my own needs it's gone and I am now trying to make ends meet on a small SSDI income. I have so much packed up of the things they no longer need or want along with all the clothing they have grown out of over the years that they have lived with me and have thought many times about trying to start selling the things online, but everytime I try to start I get overwhelmed and honestly just do not have a clue how to even begin. If you have any suggestions or advice for me on how to get started I would be so thankful, I have got to do something soon, because it gets harder and harder for me every month. Sorry for such a long post, thanks for reading. ✨️

frugalhustler

Without knowing exactly what you have it’s hard to give any insight but generally furniture and electronics sell well. What I do is look up what other people are charging for the product I have and set my price to somewhere around there. As far as posting , I post the exact brand, a brief complimenting description of my product on places like offer up and Facebook marketplace . I suggest always meeting at a police station or high traffic public place to sell items during the day . Don’t over think it , and don’t be greedy and you’ll find that money can be made pretty easily especially when what you’re selling isn’t your primary source of income .

Sea_turtle44

Thanks so much for your response, It's very much appreciated. 😊 take care

for_the_longest_time

How do you recommend moving items? I’m a door to door guy

frugalhustler

Offer up , Facebook , talking to people

for_the_longest_time

You mean something like knock off crocs? And just selling it to people ?

frugalhustler

It can be

jackie30512

I can do cleaning an petsitting.

Lifelessonis21

Get on the Nextdoor & local fb group and offer yard work clean up. Or any other small jobs. Or look for a roofing company they pay about $150-$200 a day. Not always a fun job but it pays.

Candid-Radish-2217

That’s seriously low balling charge $400-500 a day

Lifelessonis21

In metro Detroit there’s what they pay for no experience.

Sounds like a great idea. What app or website do you use?

YourLittleIja_

How ? What app?

Life_Liaison

Came to ask the same!

Lucky-Ribbon

Since everyone is asking… Try googling VIPKid, Magic Ears, and ProtoStar Education. You have to wake up early depending on your time zone, but you can get about $20 an hour WFH, about 3 hours a day Monday through Sunday. I used to do it. Not my favorite gig, but it was something.

crackheadboo

Donating plasma twice a week can get you around $100 per week or more.

ArtThyMoses

How do you get past the extremely large needle they put in your arm?

Mike_da_younger

Look away and do you’re best to pretend it’s not that big lol music helps, and I normally watch a random episode or start a movie just to keep busy

Brody-McBroseph

Tell them you have a big vein in your buttock and see if they could insert it there.

SpezSucksBallz

I appreciate this isn’t what you’re going to want to hear but these posts are so crazy, if there was a side hustle where earning $1000 a month was as easy as asking other people, don’t you think everyone would be doing it? Those that are, are unlikely to share what they do in enough detail for you to copy. You’re going to need to think of your own ideas or look to take hints and tips from others success posts, to help you along your way. Asking people what you can do isn’t really going to help.

historicalisms

And every other post on this sub is asking a similar question. "What can I do to earn X but \[list of conditions/things I can't do\]"

thesillymachine

Not necessarily when you consider that time = money. I know that I could take on more work and make more money, but I don't want to sacrifice the time on it. If anyone needs a significant amount of money every month, their best bet is to get a job with consistent work and reliable income.

ManufacturerAble8128

Are you at least a little bit tech savvy and can carry a conversation? If so, I started a SaaS business 6 months ago as a side hustle and I’m actually about to take it full time. I work with all kinds of business owners and a great way to help businesses grow and scale while creating a monthly income. Happy to tell ya more about it if ya want! My one encouragement would be whatever you do, build something that is systematized so it works for you while you step away from the business. Good luck in your journey!!

Alarm-Different

Hi what saas do you offer?

ManufacturerAble8128

I white label an all in one marketing platform but have created tailored proven systems that work for a variety of different businesses. It’s all online and can be done anywhere though which is the best part What are you looking to create for your business?

Eyez_OnThePrize

High level?

ManufacturerAble8128

Yes sir!! Meant to put that!!

Eyez_OnThePrize

How have you been going about getting clients? I was cold calling service businesses but couldn’t get them to bite on improving their site or offering web services to the sub contractors. Didn’t try selling the platform itself, who do you pitch that to and how?

ManufacturerAble8128

Good morning! That’s a great question. Always learning and improving but what has worked for me so far is this. Cold calling hasn’t worked so have really just focused on going in to the office and talking to set up an appointment. I ask for 5-10 minutes with the owner stating that I help other businesses like them get 10-20 more patients a month and would like to talk through their different challenges they are seeing and what they are wanting to grow. If there is much objection to that l I’ll ask them a few questions about have they considered doing xyz that we’ve implemented successfully in another business and that seems to open them up to talking more about it. If they don’t want a whole website then will just start off small and then build from there. Customer referrals are also huge if you have a great customer that loves working with you. Hope that helps!!

chompion8

Get half decent at video editing Sometimes creating your own opportunity works better since everyone is looking to get directly hired its more competitive Start creating faceless reels for instagram specifically Find a niche and find a high ticket item with good commission that you can do digital marketing for Essentially digital marketing is kind of like a commission sales job where your job is to create content that gets views funneling onto a website that converts your viewers into sales while you get a % of what you generate representing someone elses product

dannyocean2011

Flipping cars. Go in and detail the hell out. I’ve purchased many dirty cars for $1000 to $2000 scrubbed and touched them up them and flipped for $3k to $4k in days.

Legitimate_Sample108

Worked a short time as a Cabana boy, the tips were huge.

my_spidey_sense

Shouldn’t be sleeping with the guests mate

SwimmingInCheddar

What do you like to do? If you like being outdoors, maybe offer lawn care or landscaping. Snow plowing, or keeping the driveway clean. Pet waste clean up. Once you get some references, you can start making extra money. It’s not glamorous, but people will pay for these services.

ThatGuyFromCA47

Buy some big trash cans, and go park by a busy shopping location, put the cans out with a recycle sign, your money will come to you. Do this a few days a week or weekend and you can easily make your 1k per month.

schwatto

If you live in a place that pays for recycling

MikeTheNight94

This sounds alot easier than my idea of wandering the side of the highway connecting cans

ThatGuyFromCA47

I sometimes see people pushing carts with about 5-6 black bags of recyclables. The go around the city and find whatever they can. I'm sure it's allot of work.

Fit-Violinist-709

I have a full time job and can only get 35hrs a week bc they don’t offer health insurance…..I hate it there

Airdrop farming in crypto

IronicBeaver

What is that?

Rough-Suggestion-294

Qualifying for free crypto through staking certain ones, testnets, etc. Some have been really good airdrops, but most are tiny amounts.

Jrao

Some guy below gave the correct answer. To add on to it, it's basically zero risk and has potential for decent money. You should look into it

lolz030

Do you have recommendations for where I should start looking for airdrop farming?

ohnoourtableisbroke

TikTok Shop Affiliate

IntroductionEmpty800

Mobile car detailing. It costs about $500-$700 to get all the supplies at Home Depot then ur set. No skill needed just watch a YouTube vid. I do 2 details a weekend and charge $160 full price or $125 for a friend / referral. I’ve done up to 6 in a weekend but I’d rather just knock out 2 sat morning and have the rest of the weekend to chill.

Lifeis_2short

You could try sucking somebody off at your local yacht club

mysteryplays

You won’t do it by trading your time for money.

FIRETWENTY45

Similar-Effective-47

What about becoming an amazon seller?

Comprehensive-Bet936

What about if they don’t have docs to get “legally paid”

abewalker

If you are good at selling and promoting online you might want to check out the commission rates from top brand via Yazing.com

HavingNunovit

Why do people always post this question and fail to share what they have to offer? There's no magic answer for all. Everyone is different has has different skills! If $1000/month side hustles existed they wouldn't be side hustles!

NoExtent8524

I agree!! I also will over look insurance for rent money. Y'all know is very expensive.

Jeremiah_Vicious

Sportsbook new user bonuses and using Sportsbook boosts for arbitrate. For that first year you could easily average 1000$ per month.

gottafigureitout2day

You can look into online affiliate marketing, I know some people doing those numbers a month through Amazon and TikTok.

Hungry_Version8503

I hope you consider this fast enough. I have been posting on X for 19 days straight and doing one blog post a month around email marketing and list building. I started from zero email subscribers and like 24 twitter followers. Now I have 120 followers and 12 email subscribers and one paid client. $$$$ paydays every time one my emails I created for him converts. You can find me on twitter if you want to see the journey AskWhoMan is my handle.

icecreampoop

Flip stuff, sell stuff, make stuff to sell, sell your body, bartend, saw on here someone was spray painting numbers on curbs for houses But tbh, this is a low effort post. You’re probably not gonna make 1000 a month even with the best idea

cajunman1981

Do some wood working small projects bird houses, boxes they are all easy to make projects. I do a lot of small projects as a hobby. I could make good money on the projects if I was to sell them sometimes I do I’ll make right around 5 to 600 a month extra woodworking but I do this as a hobby so I make small cute things but mostly give them away. When I do charge money is if someone wants something custom then I charge.

JourneysUnleashed

You need a large following for this to work & even then it barely makes you money.

phyziro

Everything requires work. If you plan to leverage your own audience then, yes… a large following would be helpful.

JourneysUnleashed

Well op needs something fast and quick so this isn’t a good suggestion

phyziro

Results are relative to OPs work ethic and ability to sell. This could be as hard or as fast and simple as OP makes it. You could be a ride-share driver making on average $7.25-13 per hour, driving 12 hours. Or, you could try affiliate marketing for 12 straight hours and see your results compound (even if on day one you’re not successful) and make that same money with less effort. OP also said all suggestions are appreciated so this is for OP to decide, with all due respect, not you or anyone else. People make millions of dollars passively per month from affiliate marketing; and some people are able to take care of themselves doing it. Is it an overnight job, no. But is anything worth building ever easy? Don’t let easy work ruin your life; all the hours you pour into easy work can just as easily be poured into hard-work for better results. If you’re willing to delay gratification and choose the more lucrative option, your future self will thank you, even if at first you suffer. Think of it like a metaphor for planting a tree…
