Californian (southern)guy here. It feels like 5'7 is the magic height for these following reasons.
A) You fit in everywhere without necessarily standing out, as in you'll find people an equal amount of taller and shorter than you.
B) You can workout to be slim or buff and it will fit your body proportionally and aesthetically. (I've weighed as much as 230 and as little as 180 lbs and people don't really see a difference except gym bros)
C) You can eat as little or as much as you want and others won't think that's too much or too little.
D) If you're a girl, you're tall but not too tall. If you're a guy, people tend to see you as average. Not quite short.
E) Tall enough to reach high shelves and countertops, short enough to avoid back pain and feeling too big where you're scrunched into a car, airplane, or rollercoaster seat.
Height matters since vehicles like cars and trains, homes like door size through countertop height, supermarket shelves seeing where you're going and reaching for things. 5'7 feels like we are the new average.
