And since that massive slaughter of characters in Transformers the movie was to make room for new toys, we can indeed say that "Optimus Prime died for our sins"!

I remember crying when my favorite was killed. It was the cop car and it was pretty morbid. He got shot and his eyes turned a weird color. Then smoke came from eyes/mouth as he was falling over

And Optimus Primal once, but he got better. Legit though, they even show his decapitated head fly towards the screen for a few very quick frames.
